So, I've been kicking this idea around for quite a while now. Figured it was time to open it up to some feedback and help, to make this idea a reality. The basic idea of these clans is that the cats in the clans have certain physical distinction and abilities that allow them to live and survive in fantastical ways.
Clans
Waterclan - Name subject to change
Based off Leviathans/giant fish monster
- Fish-like adaptations
- A long and powerful tail with attached fluke a the end for swimming
- Due to the large nature of the tail, it's often difficult to lift out of the water
- Both gills and lungs, allowing movement on land and extended time underwater
- Leg fins and webbed paws for maneuverability in water
- Short, sleek fur with water resistance and insulation
- Think like a Vaporeon, minus the head fins
- Echolocation
- Water manipulation abilities
- Camouflage/color change abilities
Airclan - Name subject to change
Based off Phoenix/Thunderbird
- Bird-like adaptations
- Two pairs of wings
- one set located on the back just below the shoulders
- one set located at the base of tail to help stability
- Thick, feathery coats
- Lighter bones, larger lungs
- Sharper, hooked claws for catching prey while flying
- Enhanced sense of sight
- Air manipulation abilities
- Lightning/electricity manipulation abilities
- Reincarnation
Earthclan - Name subject to change
Based off Basilisk/earth dragons
- Lizard-like adaptations
- Rough, scaly skin
- Gemstone or metallic colored scales
- Thin, small patches of fur
- Pointed spines along back
- Longer, sharper, harder claws
- Forked tongues, increased sense of smell
- Earth manipulation abilities
- Can sustain off gemstones only
- Stone and gem mimicry
Fireclan - Name subject to change
Based off Kitsune
- Kitsune-like adaptations
- Multiple tails
- Tails are often unnaturally long and fluffy
- Fox-like features
- Unnatural colors/markings, ie runic glyphs
- Can take an "upright" position, standing and walking on hind legs
- Can use front paws to hold and use items as if paws were hands while upright
- Fire manipulation abilities
- Shapeshifting abilities
- Illusion abilities
Territories
Waterclan lives in a large lake to the south, teeming with fish. Camp consists of a set of underwater tunnels and connected caverns under a center island in the lake. The only parts above water are the nursery and the medicine cat's den. Their territory extends over the lake and a few tail-lengths up the shore.
Airclan lives in the tall forests to the west of the river, hunting birds and other small animals. Camp is located in the tallest tree, a giant sequoia with a crest large enough to sustain the nursery and medicine cat's den, to keep the kits, sick and injured from falling out of the tree. The rest of the dens are hollows in the bark, former bird's nests carved wider over generations. Their territory consists of the extent of the western forest.
Earthclan lives in the northern hills and mountains, and spend their time digging for precious gems. Their camp is inside a long cave, where the roof of the cave has collapsed to let light and plants in. Dens are located within the crevices and between boulders, the entrances lined with precious gems and other collectibles. Their territory consists of the northern hills, and the cave system running under the northern part of Fireclan and Airclan territories.
Fireclan lives in the eastern forest, as well as occupying the marshes near where the river drains into the lake. Their easternmost border is lined with cherry trees and beaches overlooking the ocean. Camp is located in a secluded grove surrounded by cherry trees. A thick fog permeates most of their territory, making visibility within the territory low to none. It's impossible to navigate without a Fireclan guide or someone similar who can dispel illusions.
