I just graduated in June as a Neurobiology major and a minor in Bioethics and Humanities. I didn't do much for extracurriculars... I mean, I played in one of the orchestras, I was in a few clubs (kind of), I did three years of research. Advice: Don't be afraid to ask questions - it's how you get to know you professors and let them know that you're a hard worker and it allows you to network in the future This isn't high school anymore, so if HS was easy for you, well, it may not come so easily here and that's perfectly okay! Have fun because it goes by quickly, but don't have too much fun that you forget about your classes - and go to your classes, I mean you're paying for them, so why not? Don't be afraid to explore and find what you're really passionate about! There's nothing more frustrating then doing something and then finding that you're actually more passionate about something else!

Yo, going into my 4th year but far from done. Switched my major like 3 times before settling on Video Game Development. No extras besides working but I did used to be a part of the LGBT center till I switched schools.
Advice: Don't skip class, it becomes too easy to be like "Oh we aren't learning anything today." or "Oops i didn't do this thing that's due... I'll finish it and turn it in next class." Just don't. I've failed too many classes with that mentality.
Don't worry about being "weird" or childish bc everyone there has the latest pokemon games and love to talk nerd and fandom.

Hello yes I am a junior and also an English major here with some advice.
If you can, wait to get your books until after you actually go to class. Some textbook sites let you search for your classes and order the books you need, but they aren't always right. I had a class last year that called for an official book, but when I got to class the professor told us we didn't need it after all because it was out of print.
Speaking of books, always rent instead of buy, unless you absolutely need a new book for the class or you're taking a foreign language, as it's usually cheaper to go ahead and buy the book if you know you're going to need it both years. Renting from Amazon is usually pretty cheap, and the return shipping's already handled. All you have to do is box it up with the proper documentation and bring it to a UPS drop off place. If you have a post office on campus like I do, ask them about it. Odds are you can just ship your books back from there. Also, most colleges have a Textbook Brokers nearby that will let you rent your books and pay the fees when you get your refund check from school, so that's an option if you're getting money back due to excess scholarships and don't have the money on hand for books.
Try to make friends with people in your classes! Don't be like me and rely on the fact your immune system is A+ and you never get sick. If you ever have to miss a class you have buddies to get notes from, or people to group with in the event of a group project.
Try not to skip class if you can help it. You can't help sick or mental health days, but you really don't want to get in the habit of skipping.
Try to shape your schedule to allow for a lunch or snack break. I would also suggest trying to get your classes back-to-back. To me, it makes the day go faster and gets class over with so you can go do homework or study.
Do not take an 8 am class unless there's no other choice. You may think you can handle it, but trust me. You can't. Don't do this to yourself.
Never put homework or studying off until the last minute!! This is bolded because it is very important. My best buddy does it all the time and has had to pull a couple of all-nighters and just generally suffer in order to get her work done. It's best to divide up what needs to be done and do it bit by bit. I also suggest waiting until the next day to proofread finished assignments and essays, since you're more likely to catch mistakes if you sleep on it.
Learn how to study. I never needed to in high school so I never did. I will likely suffer for my hubris in the future, so don't be like me. Find a system that works for you and go for it. I personally find it easier to get through textbook readings if I divide it up into sections so I know when I've read a fourth of it, half, etc.
Lastly, there are a whole bunch of clubs on campus. Odds are there's something you're interested in. I would definitely recommend checking them out, because it's a great and easy way to make friends if you're shy like me.

o also for renting my dad used a site called Chegg when he took his classes. you can both buy and rent books from them and it's sometimes cheaper than renting and buying on Amazon. so pls check out Chegg too and compare prices !! i've rented some books from there my 1st semester bc $$$

im in my second yr but i swapped majors (or just like.... overall degrees) so i had to start from the start again rip.......... anyway im a physics major now (but i sit around thinking that i, someone whose brain literally just leaves every time i see a number, might not be suited for it. but whatever i follow all my Major Interests (ie everything) as hobbies and ive already swapped once. dont want to waste even MORE time... honestly though every time i actually make it to my 9am physics lecture and understand it i am like Yes I Am In The Right Major Thank You Not Only God But Also Jesus)
i dont do any extra-curriculars bc like.... will i ever remember? will i ever be in the mood to talk to people irl (or... at all tbh)? would i rather just go home and do nothing? no, def not, and yes
i havent got any advice because i dont know how to get myself on track so i shouldnt be telling anyone else how to tbh. when i figure out foolproof ways to stay concentrated for extended periods of time or how to wake up in the morning ill let u all know

As of now I'm going for a liberal arts major unless I find something I'm really interested in. I'm starting on August 31 and it's going to be my second year(And I'm still anxious about it) Now as for advice... do you homework, study, and be respectful to your professors and peers! Good luck
