Pineclan A Story of Stories Welcome ~ ~ Introduction- Thank you for visiting. I've tried having an active clan for some time now with these characters, and unfortunately I am not active enough to do so, and this website is not very active, nor has enough people to have too many clans. That's why I decided to just have a fan-fiction. I've wanted to play these characters out for quite some time and I can't get that itch scratched by this site and based off of the other people alone.
About Me-
I have been with the Warrior Cat community since I was 16, although I didn't start RPing until I was 18. I am now 25, and still an avid reader of the series. I base a lot of my charries on my own cats, or cats I know. I have 7 cats, Kiki, Mew, Dude, Zelda, Bee, Odin, and Fluffy. All have different personalities, and all are a pain in my rear for different reasons. A few are rescues, while others are ones I was given from various people for various reasons. I wouldn't trade them for the world. I also have two dogs, Cooper and Karma. Cooper was from a breeder, he is a Red Heeler. Karma was given to me from a family friend, and she is a German Shepherd. They seem like they should be very smart dogs, but are also dumb at times.

Territory Camp ~ ~ Pineclan camp lies closest to the Northern Border. It is a small clearing, surrounded by nettle bushes. The entrance is a pile of rocks stacked in a way that it has an opening under it. Mud and other things hold it in place. It has never fallen. The Fresh-Kill pile is right outside the entrance of the Medicine Cat's Den. Leader's Den- A small cave, directly under the High Rock. Inside is full of soft sand and very soft grass. There is a small patch of Cat Nip in here, and it is left alone. The Cat Nip is said to help the leader sleep at night. High Rock- A small cave that makes the Leader's Den is also the High Rock. To get up it, one must go around to the back side of the cave and climb up if from there. Jumping onto it leads to many injuries. Warrior's Den- A very large bramble bush near the camp's entrance houses the warriors. Inside, the branches form in a way that many cats are not hurt by the bramble needles. Moss lines the beds, and is cleaned and replaced every so often. Apprentice's Den- Near the Elder's Den, this bush is less protected than the Warrior's Den, as it is just a regular bush. For this reason, the clan has built a wall of rocks around the backside of the bush. Nursery/Medicine Cat Den- The Nursery and the Medicine Cat Den are together in one very large hollowed out tree trunk. The trunk dips under ground, and this part houses the Nursery. It is protected on top by the Elder's Den. The medicine Cat Den is the top part of the tree trunk, with many compartments that are hollowed out for the herbs. Elder's Den Right on top of where the Nursery dips under ground is the Elder's Den. A small bush with nettles growing around it, the Elder's Den is protected by thorns. Territory ~ ~ Pineclan's territory is full of many types of trees and vegetation. Mainly pines, but some other types of trees here and there. Elder Pine- Possibly what Pineclan was named after, the Elder Pine is almost the farthest South West corner of Pineclan territory. This sacred tree is as old as the history of Pineclan, possibly even longer. A lot of different herbs and medicines grow here. Needle Forest- The forest in the North East of Pineclan territory, this small area is nothing besides pines. It is sometimes used during Leaf-Bare to house the clan, as the pines are so close, barely any snow gets to the ground. Farm Field- This territory is a medium sized piece of land to the South East that is often taken from us by Dawnclan. It is an old farm field that has hay, wheat, and corn growing randomly in it. It is the home of many different prey, and is fought over quite a bit. Dawnclan will steal prey from this territory, so it is monitored often. Warming Rocks/ Hot Spring- Close to the Needle Forest is a very small spring and group of rocks around the water. It is warm year round, but should not be swam in. The water is known to be too hot for cats to use as a source of water. It is used for the warm rocks around the spring. Starclan Clearing- To the South of Pineclan territory is Starclan Clearing. This is where cats go to talk with Starclan. The clearing is void of any kind of life, and is surrounded by rocks and boulders. A rock that shines at night is the place where cat's touch to sleep and talk to Starclan. River/ River Falls- The river that runs throughout all four clan's territories, beginning in Pineclan territory, and flowing out of Willowclan's territory. Only a small area is in Pineclan territory. Small fish are sometimes caught here. The River Falls is where the Full-Moon Gatherings take place. This area is where the river ends at a lot of rocks, with it flowing into a small water fall. The area at the bottom of this has a cave behind where the water is falling, and is where the gatherings take place. A large stone is in the back of the cave, where the leaders talk. The cave gets taller as you travel down into it.

Bordering Clans Dawnclan Nemesis (On bad terms with this clan)- Dawnclan has been around as long as Pineclan, but they argue they were here first. No one knows truly who claimed the territories first, but it seems Dawnclan believes we stole most of their land. Dawnclan constantly steals territory from the clan, mainly Farm Fields. It is almost a constant battle with these cats. Their territory is mainly hills, with their camp located in a dried out river bed. Dawnclan cats are very proud, easy to anger cats. They are tall and skinny, made more for running than fighting, but this does not give them a disadvantage. They are fast and attack quicker than normal. They can outrun a lot of Pineclan cats and should not be pursued into their territory. They set up traps for apprentices and warriors alike, and have been known to take hostages. The medicine cats seem to get along for the most part, but if threatened even slightly, their group will attack the medicine cat of Pineclan.

Willowclan Neutral - Willowclan territory is full of very large willow trees, and lots of streams and rivers. Their camp is nestled in a group of fallen willow trees, hollowed out generation after generation. These tree trunks are not there on accident, as the cats move more into place when needed.
Willowclan cats are extremely tough fighters, built from years of climbing and moving trees around their territory. It is their tradition for apprentices to spend a night hollowing out a willow tree as an initiation process to become a warrior.

Chapter One
Deepstar
Deepstar padded out of his den, mind set on seeing his kits. His fur rustled slightly, as it always did, tensing up for any oncoming attack. Just like the day before, and the day before that and so on, nothing was wrong in the clan. But he knew the odds. Eventually something would happen. That’s how the world worked.
He glanced to the sky, seeing the sun rising with the early morning. He searched for the moon, and since it was almost full, he could make it out, just barely behind the pines. This made him nervous. It had been a few moons since Dawnclan had caused trouble and this worried him more than being in a battle with those cats. He felt they were up to something, and he wasn’t sure the clan would be ready. Paranoia ran through his veins, making his skin crawl with anticipation.
Deepstar pushed away his thoughts and padded across camp towards the nursery, which was also the medicine cat’s den. He dipped his head to Ottertail, who was showing his apprentice Bearpaw how to get ticks off of the elder’s without getting swatted by the grumpy cats. Ivythorn was their test subject, but was not seemingly happy about it. His mother had always been a grumpy she-cat even when he had been a kit. But she was being as patient as she could with Ottertail and Bearpaw, even though it was probably taking everything she had to not get frustrated with the young tom. He had no quarrels with the Ottertail now, but when they were both warriors fighting to become deputy, Deepstar had only won because he was older, and Ottertail was not as experienced. But, he was glad that Ottertail’s son, Oakbranch, was his deputy. The young tom had a lot of the same qualities his father possessed, which made him do well in his role. He wondered briefly what would the clan had been like if Ottertail had become Otterstar, but couldn’t see the outcome, and moved on.
The next cat he saw was not one he wanted to see. His old mate, Blackriver, sat near the fresh-kill pile. She was placing a large vole down, when she noticed her ex-mate. Fur rustled with anger and eyes narrowed with pure hatred. Deepstar’s claws extended based on his emotion, and he moved away from the mother of his oldest kits. He didn’t want to deal with her this early in the morning. He was saddened by the fact that his relationship with Blackriver had ended, but he couldn’t help that he had fallen out of love with her and into love with Gingertail. It was neither of the she-cats faults, and was glad they didn’t hate each other. He could deal with Blackriver himself, but a fight between the two would harm the clan greatly.
As he pushed towards the nursery, he could hear the sound of his kits suckling. His fur grew warm with the sound as he entered, and as his eyes adjusted to the change in lighting, he could see his kits wriggling around by Gingertail’s belly.
This time. He told himself, this time I’ll do my kits right. He thought about his other two kits, who were fully grown warriors now. Jadetail and Pebblestripe. He felt okay about Jadetail, who just didn’t really interact with him anymore, but Pebblestripe was a problem. He voiced his opinion in the open for everyone to see and hear, and never let it go. Deepstar’s scar on his left flank tinged with what he figured was a memory about Pebblestripe. The young tom was upset and hurt, so Deepstar let him take out his frustrations. With no punishment inflicted upon his son, he hoped he would call the whole thing even. But now… now Deepstar was afraid it just fueled the fire in Pebblestripe. And for once in Deepstar’s life, he was afraid, and he didn’t know what he was to do.
He had asked for Starclan’s opinion and guidance when he first started to feel as if he didn’t love Blackriver anymore. They were understanding but warned of the repercussions that it would have on the clan and his clanmates. Others would not understand as they did. And they were right. His clanmates looked at him differently. Only a pawful looked at him with the same respect as before. Some felt off to him, and then there were a select few that he kept a close eye on. His son being one of them.
He hated these feelings of conflict inside his own mind. Should he confront those who opposed him or let them hate him? It was a tough call. On one side, squashing their little rebellion would restore order and place him back at the top, but on the other side it might do the complete opposite. They could get more followers based on others seeing his tyranny. It could ruin him completely. It could make so many things worse.
His mind returned to the present when he felt a small paw touch his own. He looked down to find Fallkit, who was comparing her paw to his own. The tiny paw was nothing but a toe compared to his paw, but he purred about it all the same.
The purr startled Fallkit for a moment before she looked up at her father. “Deepstar, will I be big someday?” Her tiny voice was barely audible in the hollowed tree.
Deepstar smiled at his kit, lowering his head to practically the floor itself, causing him to look up at Fallkit. “I’m pretty sure you are big already.” He purred to her.
This caused an uproar of purring from Fallkit so loud it echoed on the walls. The vibrations stirred up his other kits, who left Gingertail’s belly to find out what the commotion was. Fallenkit bounced when her siblings came over, “Deepstar says I’m big!” She puffed her chest out, proud of herself.
Redkit, Deepstar’s only son of this litter, who was also the biggest of the three, pushed towards her, “No way. I’m so much bigger than you!” Narrowkit, who was a bit bigger than Fallkit, stayed quiet, watching her other siblings interact from afar.
Fallkit narrowed her eyes at Redkit, “He didn’t say I’m the biggest, mouse-brain. He said I was big. I know I’m not the biggest, but that doesn’t mean anything!”
Redkit got closer to his sister, “Bigger is better, don’t you know that?”
Deepstar could sense an argument coming, as could Gingertail, who began to move towards the group. Deepstar put his tail on her shoulder, stopping her, “Let’s see how this plays out, Gingertail. It’s good for them to know they can voice their opinions and defend themselves. Besides, they are little kits, what could they do to each other? It’s best to get it out now, than later on in life.” Deepstar murmured to his mate, who still looked uneasy.
Gingertail was half his age, and an inexperienced mother, but she trusted Deepstar, so she obeyed. He turned back towards the kits, who were still sizing each other up. “Bigger doesn’t always mean better!” Fallkit scowled at her brother, then shot towards him, toppling him easily, as he didn’t see it coming. She batted him in the face once then shot back off of him, her fur rustled but her body calm. Redkit got up slowly, but from where Deepstar stood, he could not see his son’s face. He hissed at Fallkit, and turned around, where he saw his mother and father. He had a small cut above his eye, but it was not deep enough to even bleed. Just a tiny red mark of shame and defeat.
Gingertail, of course had already pushed past Deepstar to go to her son, cooing over his scratch. “Nightsky!” She called for the medicine cat, “Nightsky!” The panic in her voice made the all black she-cat come running, upon finding the scene, seeing Deepstar calm and only Gingertail freaked out, her fur laid flat once more. She moved to Redkit, examining his head. Redkit tried not to look hurt, but Deepstar could see the pain written on his face. It wasn’t pain from the cut, it was a beaten by your little sister pain. Deepstar smirked, hopefully the kit would learn from this lesson.
Deepstar moved his gaze to Fallkit, who was watching the duo with amusement that played along her face. He liked this small she-kit. She was smart, and obviously not one to back down. Deepstar looked around for his other kit, who was now talking to a different she-cat. One he didn’t notice come in under all the commotion. It was Blackriver talking to Narrowkit. He could now feel the distinct indifference coming from Blackriver. He knew she was trying to avoid him, but he felt better knowing she had probably heard Gingertail’s cry, and had come running just in case. Glad that there was a back exit, he took it. Both of the main she-cats in his life in the same room as himself? No, thank you.
As the sun hit him, and his eyes adjusted, he could hear a morning patrol coming in from outside of camp. One after the other, they entered. First, was Featherleaf, next Pebblestripe and his apprentice Lynxpaw, and finishing the rear was Oakbranch. Pebblestripe looked towards his father, but acted as though he didn’t see him. Lynxpaw seemed eager for the next lesson, so Pebblestripe padded him over to Ottertail, where he was still working with showing Bearpaw tricks to help and care for the elders. Featherleaf dipped her head to her son, Oakbranch, and he did the same, but she licked the top of his head fast, where Deepstar barely caught it with his eyes. Oakbranch rolled his eyes, but licked her shoulder quickly before turning towards Deepstar. He seemed uneasy, but showed none of that to the other clanmates. His eyes were able to be read by Deepstar, and he nodded his head towards High Rock for some time to talk.
Meeting his deputy there, Oakbranch started in immediately. “I think Dawnclan is up to something.” Deepstar tried to hide his smirk, but Oakbranch caught it quickly, “What? You don’t think so?” He seemed offended.
Deepstar let out a long sigh, “No. I was thinking the same thing this morning. I felt it. What did you find that led you to believe they were up to something?”
“We went to the Farm Fields border.” Deepstar’s fur prickled. Farm Fields was taken by Dawnclan many times, always under attack for them to take it from Pineclan. It made his blood boil just thinking about their smug faces when they captured it over and over again.
“And? Were you attacked? Confronted?” He asked, although he didn’t think they were. The other cats in their patrol were not fazed by anything, which means it was all normal.
Oakbranch shook his head, “No, actually. We saw no one. Nothing.”
“Then why do you come to your findings they are doing something?” Deepstar tilted his head, thinking himself.
“That’s just it. We didn’t find anything. The territory markers haven’t been touched by Dawnclan in days.” Deepstar blinked, then closed his eyes.
“We need to double the partrols out there.” Deepstar replied.
Oakbranch looked unsure, “Actually what I was thinking was to keep it the same. We need to find out what they are doing and doubling our patrols with no evidence they are taking Farm Fields again would just be more work for us. They could be doing something else, and we might be left defenseless in a different area.”
Deepstar dipped his head in understanding. “What do you think it could be?”
Oakbranch shrugged. “Honestly, I don’t know.” He looked distraught when he mentioned this.
Deepstar took a deep breath. “The full moon is a few days away. You should pick a cat to monitor Dawnclan. If we watch their reactions the whole time, it’ll seem weird. We don’t want to arouse their suspicions.”
Oakbranch tilted his head, thinking, “Who should I pick?”
Deepstar took a moment to think, “I know Pebblestripe will be very useful in this, but you shouldn’t mention that I was the one to suggest him. If it comes from you, he’ll do it. From me, he’ll ignore me completely.”
Oakbranch looked concerned for a moment, “He’s still angry with you, I assume. He doesn’t talk much, but I can see the look on his face when he notices you are around.”
Deepstar nodded solemnly. His first born, his first son, was so angry that his father had “betrayed his mother,” as he put it. It didn’t help that Blackriver was upset with Deepstar as well. Although Deepstar had his moments of anger and rage, he never thought his son would have a deeper amount of hatred. A level Deepstar couldn’t reach, and wasn’t even sure Pebblestripe would be able to come out of. He hoped that giving his son other tasks to do, it would distract him. He didn’t want another confrontation. Last time, it had ended with Deepstar losing a life. He loved his son, but he could only do so much in his position. What was done, was done. Deepstar was worried it would end with either another life of Deepstar’s been taken, or continuing his anger towards his father would just add to his eventual banishment. This worried Deepstar greatly. There hadn’t been a banishment in Deepstar’s leadership, let alone life. Would he have to finally do so towards his own son? Or would Pebblestripe finally leave well enough alone?

Chapter Two
Nightsky
Nightsky was helping Gingertail in the nursery, letting the new mother coddle her kit, Redkit. Nightsky was pretty good at being able to tell what kind of warrior kits would be, based off of their kithood. She got to spend so much time with them, seeing as the nursery was also part of the Medicine Cat den. She adored kits, and had wanted them for quite a while. But she had chosen the path of Medicine Cat, and even if it hadn’t been forbidden for her to have kits, she probably still wouldn’t of. There was so much she had been through, and helping her clan had always been her top priority.
She had been a Medicine Cat for many moons, and was worried she still had yet to have an apprentice. She knew that she would be the Medicine Cat until the day she died, but was always worried that there were no other cats to take the position after herself. She wasn’t exactly an elder just yet, but she was getting close.
Nightsky had helped birth and raise kits for a while, but none seemed interested in her work. There was one kit a while back that she was sure would be into her work, but he had died from white-cough, regrettably. The memory of that kit still bothered her, although no one blamed her for his death. She even still remembered his name. Stripekit. From Deepstar and Blackriver’s litter. Her kin.
She winced at the memory, which brought her back to the present. Gingertail was still grooming and protecting Redkit. She was sure he’d be a warrior. Not the best at fighting, so it seemed, but a very good warrior nonetheless. She looked around for the other two kits. Fallkit was trying to figure out how to stretch properly on part of the log, and even though Nightsky didn’t really tolerate anyone using her den as a scratching post, Fallkit was too tiny at the moment to do any real damage. Fallkit would surpass Redkit’s fighting ability quickly, but Nightsky was worried about her pride, and if it would interject into her warrior-hood. The last kit Nightsky didn’t see right away. She didn’t panic, however. Given her history, Nightsky was very good at staying calm. She padded away from the nursery side of the den to her own side, where the smell of herbs grew much stronger. She was proud of her den, very neat and tidy. She was not at the moment out of any herbs, and was proud that she had a few moments of peace, to reflect on the clan.
As she got closer, she could see Narrowkit’s little tail twitching from around the bend of the hollowed tree. Nightsky had not yet had the chance to figure Narrowkit out, seeing as the kit spent most of the time watching others, and not so much interacting. She was peculiar, always just watching, almost never talking. Nightsky thought for a moment before realizing that if Narrowkit had ever talked, Nightsky had not heard it. But she was determined to figure this small she-cat out.
Narrowkit’s light blue fur seemed to cast a small glow, as if shining from within. Nightsky quickly realized this was just the sun shining on Narrowkit, but Nightsky felt something… She wasn’t sure what it was, but she felt the presence of not just herself and Narrowkit.
She was right behind the small kit now, but she didn’t speak.
But Narrowkit did. The kit turned quickly, her eyes bright and unfocused, like she was seeing something Nightsky did not. Nightsky felt her long black fur begin to stand on end, sensing something unexpected.
“The sun will collide with the star, and everything will be set on fire."
Her voice was small, but powerful, and Nightsky knew she had just been told a prophecy.
Narrowkit’s eyes came back into focus, and Nightsky was expecting her to look confused. But she looked just as mysterious as ever. Her gaze never faltering to less than curiosity.
“Narrowkit?” She asked quietly. Nightsky had once been given a prophecy, many moons ago. The feeling that overcame her was indescribable, and the feeling after left her so tired she couldn’t walk easily and had to lay down where she was. Luckily it had been in her own den, but it still knocked the wind out of her.
But Narrowkit looked fine, seemingly not even phased by the fact she had just been through a very powerful connection with Starclan.
Narrowkit flicked her tail and the herb she had been looking at before acknowledging Nightsky’s presence, “You’ll need more of that soon.” Her voice was rough sounding, it unnerved Nightsky deeply. She padded away, back to her mother and siblings.
Nightsky took a closer look at the small pile of herbs she had prepared however many moons ago. It was a pile she didn’t store a lot of, but she knew what it was used for. It was rosemary, a herb used to hide the stench of death.

Chapter Three
Pebblestripe
The anger that surged through Pebblestripe when he looked at Deepstar was stronger than anything he had ever felt before. Deepstar was a sorry excuse for a leader, and was not one to look up to. He had practically torn the clan apart when he broke it off with Pebblestripe’s mother, Blackriver. Pebblestripe wasn’t on good terms with his father beforehand, and they had different ideas on how the clan should be run. They had butted heads ever since Pebblestripe was a kit. And he knew that Stripekit had been Deepstar’s favorite. And when he had died, Deepstar stopped coming around. Pebblestripe remembered how much he had pushed to become a great warrior during his apprenticeship. He wanted to show Deepstar that even though Stripekit had passed, he still had a son to be proud of.
But of course that’s not how it happened. Deepstar had named him Pebblestripe, after his brother, and that had set in motion Pebblestripe’s disdain for his father. Not to mention after becoming a warrior, he heard from other warriors now the news about certain events and was kept in the loop. At first others did not complain about Deepstar in front of Pebblestripe, in fear that since Deepstar was his father, he would then go back to Deepstar and tell him what they were saying. But gradually, after hearing the whispers from across the den, behind his back, and from opposing clan members, some began to talk to him about his father. And once they heard he didn’t particularly think he was a good leader, they opened up to him about their distastes as well. They didn’t like some of Deepstar’s actions, especially the ones that led to bloodshed and death. Pebblestripe was the first to know of his father’s actions when it came to his mother. She had raised them practically alone, because Deepstar was too busy with being a leader to help. Or he just didn’t care about them anymore, which is what Pebblestripe assumed had happened. And now he was visiting his new kits almost daily. Which angered Pebblestripe to no end. He was jealous of this kits, but mainly angry with his father for showing them attention and not his other kits. He knew that kits required care almost constantly, but that didn’t excuse the fact that Deepstar barely had acknowledged their existence their whole lives. He treated them like just more cats in the clan.
So when Pebblestripe saw Deepstar exit the nursery for the upteenth time, it just fueled the anger he felt for his estranged father.
He led his apprentice, Lynxpaw, to the elder’s den. Sitting outside was Dovescar, who was basking in the sun, soaking up the warmth. Pebblestripe had taken a liking to the gray tom, who had been an elder during his own apprentice-hood, and he had sat with him, grooming and listening to the stories he told. He was the oldest cat in the clan now, ever since Deerpatch had passed away a few moons before.
Pebblestripe dipped his head to his elder warrior, then greeted Ottertail and his apprentice, Bearpaw. They were in the middle of pulling off another tick from Dovescar, who seemed to be enjoying the attention.
Lynxpaw seemed antsy, and pushed forward to where his brother sat, listening to his mentor. Ottertail didn’t seem to mind that he had another pupil to his roster, and he just adjusted himself so that both toms could now see what he was explaining.
Pebblestripe took this time to look around camp. Other cats were milling around, when he noticed Oakbranch talking to Deepstar. He liked Oakbranch, but just to the point where he was a good warrior. Otherwise he didn’t care what happened to the tabby tom either way. Oakbranch had been taken under Deepstar’s wing as apprentice, which angered Pebblestripe, but he knew it hadn’t been the young deputy’s fault. Deepstar’s actions that just distanced his own kin even further was not anyone’s fault but his own.
“Hey, Pebblestripe.” A soft voice from behind startled Pebblestripe, and he turned on his heel towards the sound. It was Silverblaze, a she-cat that was a few moons younger than Pebblestripe. He knew that she had a crush on him, but hadn’t been able to figure out himself if she was right for him. Silverblaze was a pretty silver-gray, and knew that she would be a good mate for anyone. He just wasn’t sure he’d be a good mate for her. He dipped his head all the same, “Hello Silverblaze.” He meowed. She moved to sit next to him, her fur barely touching his own, making him twitch slightly. “Sorry for scaring you before. You must have been deep in thought.” Her voice was melodic, like talking to Pebblestripe was making her happier. He shrugged, not wanting to talk about his moment of weakness. “Don’t be. I need to be on my toes at all times.” “The full moon is coming up.” She meowed, “Do you think you’ll be picked to go?” Pebblestripe felt her tail brush against him, then move away. He nodded, “I always get picked.” He puffed his chest out. He didn’t always get picked, but for some reason he wanted to impress this she-cat.
Her yellow eyes widened, “It’s because you’re such a great warrior.” She complimented. This just made Pebblestripe’s ego grow even more. “I haven’t gone since I became a warrior. Senior warriors get picked to go a lot and unfortunately me and Cloudwhisper are still the youngest warriors. Not that I mind waiting, I know my turn will come. It’s just, how long do I have to wait to be noticed like you?” Pebblestripe felt bad for a moment, listening to the young she-cat. She was right that the younger warriors didn’t get recognition like Pebblestripe did.
At that moment, before Pebblestripe could respond, Oakbranch padded up, dipping his head to both warriors. “Pebblestripe, can I borrow you for a moment? I’d like to discuss something with you, in private.” Pebblestripe turned to see Silverblaze’s face drop, and he felt bad for her. As Deepstar’s eldest son, he was given an advantage over others. The respect came from everyone, and he was chosen a lot for tasks that were important. He rarely had mediocre tasks that he didn’t assign himself. “Excuse us.” Oakbranch murmured and padded a bit away from the she-cat.
Once enough distance was between them, Oakbranch started, “I apologize if I was interrupting something, Pebblestripe, this just needed to be done now.” Pebblestripe huffed, “There’s nothing to be sorry for.” Oakbranch tilted his head, but said nothing else about the matter, and continued what he needed to say. “At the next gathering, I’ll need you to do some recon for me.” He paused to let Pebblestripe understand what he was saying, then continued, “I believe Dawnclan is up to something and the full-moon will be a perfect time to assess the crowd. Just listen to them, eavesdrop if you have to. Try and talk with them, but don’t be too suspicious. That way I can watch from the High Stone and see if we can test the waters with them, so to speak.” Pebblestripe nodded, his mind still on Silverblaze. “Do you mind if I invite someone to help me?” He asked. Oakbranch thought for a moment before replying, “As long as they understand the gravity of the situation. If Dawnclan gets a feeling we are onto them, they’ll withdraw even more.”
Pebblestripe nodded his understanding, and he parted ways with the deputy. He moved immediately back to Silverblaze, who hadn’t moved from her spot where he left her moments ago.
“Silverblaze,” He meowed to her, and her eyes lit up when she realized he was talking to her again, “Would you like to go to the next gathering with me on a secret mission?”

Chapter Four
Oakbranch
Oakbranch watched Pebblestripe move back to the silver she-cat, knowing immediately after Pebblestripe had asked if he could bring someone, he would choose Silverblaze. Oakbranch was slightly jealous of this, because almost everyone knew she had a crush on the long-furred tabby tom. Not that he had wanted the she-cat, but because he wanted a mate, and it looked like there would be none for him. Yes, there was Jadetail, but she had already made her decision with liking Barkface, Oakbranch’s brother. They hadn’t actually been mated yet, but Barkface had always been slow with things and Jadetail was hard to deal with at times.
He pushed away the thoughts and reminded himself he was no ordinary warrior. He was deputy, a high rank for someone his age. He wasn’t supposed to be worried about finding a mate. He was to worry about the clan, and the clan only.
That didn’t mean he didn’t feel lonely from time to time.
“Oakbranch.” A cat called from behind, pulling Oakbranch out of his thoughts. He turned to see Hollowtree, followed up by Cloudwhisper and Nightsky. Oakbranch knew where this was going. “I want to announce my pregnancy, and move to the Queen’s Den.” Oakbranch looked at Cloudwhisper, who he wasn’t sure was mature enough to have his own kits, but when he looked back at Hollowtree, his sister, he knew she had wanted this since he could remember. It was only a matter of time. He had figured her to go for a senior warrior, but probably picked Cloudwhisper because he would give her kits faster. So young and naive, but what was done, was done.
“How far along is she?” He asks Nightsky, who then moves forward to speak, “She is a little over one moon along. I’d estimate the kits to be here close to not this full moon, but next.” “And do you believe she should be taken off warrior duties this soon? I thought we waiting until the birth was in the next week or so to have queens rest?” His head tilted. Even though he feared for kits of his kin, he knew he couldn’t show favoritism. If there was anything he learned from Deepstar, it was that you needed to put your position first, and your kin second. Otherwise things got messy. Nightsky thought for a moment before answering, “I would normally say to wait as well, but…” Hollowtree cut her off, “I don’t want to be out in the forest while carrying kits! Are you insane? That policy is ludicrous. If I want to be placed in the Nursery, I should have my right to say so.” Hollowtree narrowed his eyes at his sister, angry that she just cut off a senior medicine cat from saying her side. He didn’t expect Hollowtree to be intimidated by his anger, however, as they had shared a life together so far, and knew each other well enough that neither meant any harm to the other. He had actually preferred Hollowtree over their brother Barkface, whom he found hard to talk to, as opinionated as he was, Barkface could never just let something go until he voiced his entire opinion. Even if it angered and frustrated many cats. Oakbranch huffed once, calming himself down. “First, it was very rude of you to cut off Nightsky. I ask that you apologize immediately.” Hollowtree glared at Oakbranch for a split second before meowing, “Sorry, Nightsky. I meant no ill will towards you. I am just passionate about my kits.” Nightsky didn’t look fazed by any of the interactions that had taken place, but answered anyways, “I understand your motherly instincts are to protect those that grow inside you.” Oakbranch, content on the apology, then asked, “Nightsky, you were going to say something before?” The old long-furred she-cat nodded, “I was going to mention that even though we normally have our Queens move dens towards when the kitting will take place, I normally listen to the mothers. They are the ones carrying, after all. They will know what’s best.” Oakbranch nodded, “Then I shall inform Deepstar, who will probably be calling for a gathering at the High Rock.” He noticed that Hollowtree looked pleased, while Cloudwhisper, who had been quiet this whole time, looked sick. The younger tom was not used to the spotlight, and now everyone would know what he’s been up to. Oakbranch felt bad for him, but knew that coddling the gray and white tom would just make it worse. Sympathy from your mate’s brother and your deputy? Humiliating.
Oakbranch found Deepstar still in his den, lost in thought. He moved slowly towards his leader, noticing the clouds that had moved over his eyes, knowing that Deepstar is off in another world, and that sometimes he was able to speak with Starclan this way. He didn’t want to disturb his former mentor, so he waited.
It wasn’t long when Deepstar blinked away the fog in his eyes, and he noticed Oakbranch. Deepstar dipped his head, and Oakbranch filled him in. “Then I shall call a gathering.” He moved past Oakbranch and leapt up the rocks to get himself to the High Rock. “Let all those old enough to catch their own prey gather here below the High Rock for a clan meeting.”
Oakbranch moved himself into position, below and slightly to one side of the High Rock, the spot designated for the deputy to sit. He glanced up at Deepstar, who was standing proudly, his chest puffed out, tail high. Oakbranch took a moment to watch the gathering crowd of cats. He noticed a few missing, as he had sent them on hunting patrols earlier. He hated when gatherings happened when clan cats were missing out, but it happened sometimes. It was hard to predict when gatherings would take place. Deepstar wasn’t a big planner. More of a live in the moment kind of cat. Here and now.
Deepstar waited patiently, then began, “I gathered you all here today to announce a new pregnancy, and a moving of this warrior to the nursery. Hollowtree, today you will be moved from the warrior den, and placed on queen duties. This is by no means a demotion, and we honor your commitment to the clan to have kits of your own. Congratulations. I am happy for you and Cloudwhisper.” Deepstar paused for the clan cats to congratulate the two cats, then continued, “Our next Full Moon Gathering is in a few days. Oakbranch and I have already decided who will be going, so we will let those of you who have been picked know before then. I would also like to announce we have a cat that would like to become an elder. Sprucebriar, please step forward.” Oakbranch had almost forgotten the old brown tom had asked to be moved a few days ago. He watched Sprucebriar make his way forward, limping slightly. Age and many battles had given Sprucebriar achy bones, and couldn’t make journeys around the territory like he had been able to before. It was sad to see a warrior pulled to become an elder, but Oakbranch was glad the tom knew it was time. It would be worse if he kept pushing and ended up hurting himself or others just for the sake of pride. “Sprucebriar,” Deepstar started, “It is your wish to give up the name of warrior and join the elders?” Sprucebriar didn’t hesitate, “It is, Deepstar. I have worked hard for my clan. It is time I rest.” Deepstar dipped his head, “Pineclan honors you and all the service you have given us. I call upon Starclan to give you many moons of rest.” He concluded. The clan began to call out Sprucebriar’s name, showing their respects. Oakbranch joined in, enjoying this time of peace in the clan, knowing it would only last so long before everything would eventually go wrong.

Chapter Five
Lilyblossom
Lilyblossom was staring at the full moon, waiting for the gathering. She had been asked to go with the clan, and she was especially nervous. Lilyblossom had initially refused to go for may moons, stating she was needed more back in camp. The truth was, she didn’t want to see her sister, Heartface. Heartface was part of Dawnclan now, which made everyone look at Lilyblossom like it was her fault, or worse, that she would betray her clan as well.
Heartface had been with Dawnclan for about 9 moons now. The reasoning behind her leaving was that she fell in love. It had nothing to do with Lilyblossom. But of course that didn’t stop the rumors or the looks. The anxiety built up in her, nearing toppling her over, but she was determined this time to fight through her fears of seeing her sister again. She was just another clan cat now. She just happened to share some of the same genes.
The wind picked up with the night coming closer, and Lilyblossom shivered. Leaf-fall was coming and it was making an announcement to show it’s arrival. Lilyblossom feared for her clan, as she did every leaf-fall, just because it was harder to find prey. She knew that leaf-bare was even worse for the clan, since prey was even more scarce. Thankfully, leaf-bare didn’t last long, but it was still a trying time for the clan.
Oakbranch spoke at that time, calling the clan cats to come to him to get ready to leave for the gathering. Lilyblossom moved over the growing crowd, standing next to Paddlestream. The older she-cat dipped her head slightly to Lilyblossom, purring as she said, “I’m happy to see you’re going to a gathering. I feel like it’s been moons since you went.” Lilyblossom, dipping her head back to the light grey she-cat, sighed. She wasn’t in the mood to discuss why she had abstained from joining her clanmates at the full-moon gatherings. Everyone already knew why, but no one wanted to talk about it. It was a taboo subject, meant for whispers and gossip. Paddlestream placed a tail on her shoulder, comforting her, “I know you had to deal with something most cats never had to, but you should know that you handled it gracefully.” She meowed. Lilyblossom looked away and shrugged off Paddlestream’s tail, but still replied, “Thanks.” She didn’t want cats to tell her how she handled it. She wanted cats to forget about it. She moved quickly away from the older she-cat, when she felt her mate next to her. “Brownclaw.” She looked up at his brown eyes, making her feel safe already. Brownclaw placed his head on top of hers, and she could feel him trying to purr to calm her down. “Are you sure you want to go? You can always wait. There’s no need to rush it.” Lilyblossom shook her head, and took a step back, “Our young will be warriors soon. I don’t want to show them how much this shakes me when they go there to be announced as warriors. I need to work through this. It’ll happen some time or another and I might as well do it now before it’s too late.” She swallowed hard, as her anxiety built up again. Brownclaw looked worried, but nodded. “I understand, my love. I can always as if I can go…” He meowed. Lilyblossom stopped him, “You know that Deepstar specifically asked you to stay behind. I’d love for you to go, but maybe I should try this on my own.” And you seem to get worked up when I do, which just makes me worse. She thought this last statement. Even though her mate meant well, and wanted to help her, he seemed to hinder her sometimes without meaning to. This was at no fault of his own, as he was always there for Lilyblossom, but she did need to do this without having a fall back option. She had to face this and get it over with. There was nothing to it, she reminded herself.
“Cats of Pineclan! We will be leaving now!” She could hear, but not see, Oakbranch call for everyone to start moving. She licked Brownclaw’s shoulder, and he licked her forehead quickly.
“Be well, my love. I’ll be here when you get back. You know our kits will want to hear all about it. Just remember you’re doing this for them. I love you.” He meowed hurriedly. “I love you too.” Lilyblossom was going to say more, but the crowd of cats started to move, and pulled her along with them. Knowing that Brownclaw was waiting, along with their kits, Yellowpaw, Lynxpaw, and Bearpaw, made her feel better. She was also glad none of them were going, as she hated when they saw her weak moments, her panicked moments.
The journey to River Falls, where the gathering would take place, was quite a trek. Although many cats had to patrol the border near it, they never had to make a direct line to it. Normally, they would travel down to the southern border, the one that is shared with Thornclan, travel around the bend of territory, and back up again. This patrol was one that many cat’s did not enjoy. It was a lot of area to cover, and it was a long ways away from camp, making it more work to get there and back than actual work while there.
But Lilyblossom always liked this patrol. Seeing as there was almost no trouble ever with Thornclan, she found it peaceful. Not to mention it wasn’t anywhere near Dawnclan’s territory. Finding Dawnclan cats at that border was never going to happen. Even when Dawnclan had to make journey’s to the Starclan Clearing, which was more by Pineclan’s territory than any other clans. They always traveled down to River Falls, then walked through Thornclan’s territory. They despised Pineclan so much so, that they were willing to walk that much more instead of taking a step into their enemies land. Lilyblossom didn’t mind.
Lilyblossom could hear her other clanmates conversing as they walked. Some were talking about what morning patrols they were going on. She could see Paddlestream up ahead, and as she looked at the light gray her, she turned and looked at Lilyblossom as well. Lilyblossom quickly looked away, not wanting Paddlestream to slow down to speak with her. That was the last thing she wanted right now. More pity.
Lilyblossom’s paws were now getting damp, and she knew the small lake that housed the River Falls was near. She could hear the slight roar of the water as it descended over the cave that all the clan cats were making their way to. She could also smell the territory markers. Pineclan’s was sweet and tart, and Dawnclan’s was sour and pungent. To her, she imagined it was what anger would smell like. She figured Dawnclan was always angry when they remarked the border with Pineclan. It seemed a viable excuse. She could also smell Thornclan up ahead, who had to travel into Pineclan’s territory to make it to the Eastern side of the lake, which was where the falls were. Luckily for them, they were the clan closest to the River Falls, so they didn’t need to travel far to get to the destination. And although Lilyblossom was near the back of the pack, she could see up ahead a dark silhouette, which she pegged as Blackstar. She liked the old black tom. He was soft-spoken, but held his head high. She wasn’t sure he’d even ever been in battle, but then again he did have a few scars on his face. Maybe Thornclan just had never been in battle with Pineclan. That would make more sense. And Lilyblossom was also one that was left out of the loop on news about the other clans. She normally found things out by accident. Pineclan slowed to allow Thornclan to move ahead, so as to not have the two clans fighting over space behind the waterfall. Lilyblossom had always been nervous about this part, worried she would slip and be pulled into the water, drowning in the lake. It had happened before, and was sure to happen again.
Following behind Thornclan’s group, Lilyblossom made sure to watch her feet. It took a bit of time to make it into the cave’s entrance, but once inside, she felt much better. The cave widened out and even though it was dark at first, once they got further into the cave, light began to appear, directly overhead. At the end of the cave, the height was about 6 tail-lengths tall. The light from the full moon was shining over the standing rocks, where the leaders were to sit. There was one large stone that each leader took a turn talking about their clan while standing on. Wavestar, a dark blue tom, was already sitting on one of the rocks. The youngest leader looked overly nervous. It had been about two moons since he was given his nine lives, but he still looked like he would be sick all over where he sat. When he was made leader, many cats were confused. He was just a young warrior, and had just begun mentoring. But it was a tough call. The leader before him, Tornstar, had been his mentor, which is probably why he picked him over the rest of his clan to take over the leadership. This had been talked about for the last two moons among the clans, because it was unheard of for a deputy to be chosen just moments before the leader’s death. She felt sorry for the tom, as did most of her clan when they talked about it.
Near Wavestar, was Blackstar, conversing with Deepstar. Lilyblossom looked more for any Dawnclan cats, but found none. She did notice, however, that Pebblestipe was talking to Silverblaze closely, like they were telling secrets. Lilyblossom shook her head at them, although they didn’t notice. Lilyblossom didn’t want them to look like they were planning something, or gossiping about the other clans right now. It made Pineclan look shady. What they should be doing to conversing with the other clans, to show they had nothing to hide.
So instead of looking around watching, Lilyblossom went to talk with the other clan cats. She thought setting a good example would get her mind off of seeing her sister for the first time since she left Pineclan.
The cats she first came upon were Sandystripe, a cream-colored she-cat, from Thornclan, along with her mate, Rabbitclaw, a white tom with orange patches. They were talking to Bramblesong, a brown tabby tom, from Willowclan. Lilyblossom was nervous, but determined to overcome her fears and doubts.
Sandystripe was discussing how fish were so slippery, telling a story of how one actually smacked her apprentice, Owlpaw, in the face when she had tossed one to her. Rabbitclaw was purring his amusement and Bramblesong looked humored, a bit of laughter hidden in his face. Lilyblossom smiled at Sandystripe, who immediately filled her in on the bit of fun she had with her apprentice. At the end of the story, that ended with the fish getting away from Owlpaw entirely and escaping back into the river, she felt her fur rise. The cave had gone quiet, an eary silence settling in. Knowing what that meant, she froze in place, scared to turn around. Bramblesong backed away, presumably back to his clan mates, and Sandystripe stopped talking completely. Rabbitclaw suppressed a hiss, that his mate glared at him for, and they moved back to their clan mates as well.
Lilyblossom turned slightly to see movement coming from the entrance. First was Ivystar, her long gray fur looked freshly groomed, followed by her deputy, Spottednose, first male calico of Dawnclan, and then the rest of the clan. Panicking, realizing she was now alone in her area, she moved quickly next to the first cat she could. Luckily, it was a Pineclan cat. Unluckily, it was Paddlestream, who immediately noticed how Lilyblossom was acting. She placed a tail on her shoulder, and Lilyblossom felt even smaller because of it. She didn’t force the tail off, though, as she felt somewhat safer with it there.
Lilyblossom felt her eyes glued to the new clan coming in. Worry settled in as she watched them, and her fur rose to the full height once she saw the familiar white long fur of her sister, Heartface.
Lilyblossom felt like the cave was empty at that moment, only two cats in the world were her and Heartface. The estranged she-cat had not noticed her sister on the other side of the cave, preferring to stay near her adopted clan, rather than mingle with the other clans. Lilyblossom noticed many eyes then, mostly on her, from other clans. They noticed the tension, they noticed how Lilyblossom couldn’t stop staring at her former clan mate. Lilyblossom wondered how Heartface couldn’t feel the air pressure rising, how she could be so oblivious to everyone watching them. Paddlestream placed a paw over Lilyblossom’s paw, “She acts like that every time she comes here. It’s not because you’re here.” She tried to comfort Lilyblossom, but it didn’t make matters better, although it didn’t make them worse either. Look at me. She willed towards her sister.
Just look at me. I need you to see me. Lilyblossom thought the words, but didn’t say them.
It was then that she heard the yowl of the gathering to start. It had been Ivystar, who was obviously ready to start, even before her clan had a chance to talk with the other clans.
“Prey runs well in Dawnclan territory. We have mastered taking down hawks, and would like to tell all of you they are some of the best tasting meat we have ever had.” Ivystar puffed her chest out, looking very proud of herself. “We also welcome a new warrior in our clan, Leafdust.” The gray tom was near the front of his clan, chest out. Lilyblossom could see his parents, Honeyhawk and Halftail, standing near him, looking very proud. “We have no other news to report at this time.” Ivystar took one last look around the cave, when her eyes fell on Lilyblossom. She dipped her head at Lilyblossom, almost mockingly, as she looked back at Heartface, then back to Lilyblossom. It was then that Heartface must have noticed Ivystar’s gaze. She turned and saw Lilyblossom. This moment had been imagined by Lilyblossom for moons. She had dreamed of it, thought about it, and talked about it. She could never decide what would happen, but never thought Heartface would do what she decided to do. An evil, half smile, half sneer, appeared, Heartface’s eyes glaring at her sister from across the cave. Lilyblossom felt shivers, but glared back, coming to the conclusion that Dawnclan was up to something. And it wasn’t going to be good.

Chapter Six
Silverblaze
Although Silverblaze always thought of herself as kind of dumb, and quite awkward in crowds, she realized at the gathering that she was very good at watching other cats.
The exchange between Ivystar, Lilyblossom, and Heartface, was hard to miss by any cat in the cavern, but what she did notice, while others were watching their exchange, was that the rest of Dawnclan seemed not to notice the exchange, like they had rehearsed this scene. An unspoken obedience with the Dawnclan cats was scary, and it set Silverblaze’s teeth on edge.
Silverblaze moved from her position slowly, to get a better look at the Dawnclan cats. By then, however, the exchange had ended, and the next leader to speak was up.
Blackstar moved into the spot that had been vacated by Ivystar, and began his speech. “Thornclan is having a very good time with prey,” He began. Silverblaze stifled a laugh. Even if any clan were having troubles with finding prey, they would still tell everyone they were having a great time instead. No one will show weakness to any other clan, especially at a gathering. “I am pleased to announce our Queen, Emberwind, has given birth to two kits. Amberkit and Stagkit. Both are doing very well in their new world.” Silverblaze felt a small pang of jealousy, wondering when she was going to have kits. She wanted Pebblestripe to be her mate, and was hoping that if she did a great job with their “secret mission” that he would see her as equal, and mate worthy. It gave her goosebumps just thinking about it. “We also have two new warriors. Falconclaw, and Briarstripe.” The clans congratulated the two cats, whom she couldn’t see where she was standing, but knew they must be so proud. She remembered the two toms slightly when they first became apprentices, but not enough to recognize them now. “Thornclan would also like to tell you all that we chased a family of racoons out of our territory. They might not return, but you never know. That’s all we have to report at this time.” Blackstar concluded, stepping down from his spot.
Deepstar was next up, to Silverblaze’s surprise. She expected Wavestar to try to be next. She figured the last leader to speak is always the one that has to end the gathering, which to her, seemed always tough.
“Pineclan has not much to announce. We are anticipating kits from one of our queens, although she has yet to give birth. We have had a good time with prey recently, having an abundance as per usual.” Silverblaze rolled her eyes. She didn’t understand leaders ALWAYS having to say something about how prey was always plentiful. “Thank you, Blackstar, for alerting us about the racoon family. We will keep an eye out.” Deepstar dipped his head and jumped down from his spot.
It took a few extra moments for Wavestar to make his journey up to the top to speak. He looked so nervous, like he was at the tallest mountain about to jump. She almost felt sorry for him, being thrust into leadership so early, with no training at all. Sure, he had warrior training, but he had no leadership skills it seemed. She watched him look at his deputy, Batbriar, who nodded to him several times to get him to speak. “Uh…” Wavestar started shakily, “Willowclan has two new, umm, warriors. Uhh, Fishleap, and uh…” He paused, looking to Batbriar for reassurance, “And Stormcloud!” He seemed to remember his new warrior’s name abruptly, almost yelling Stormcloud’s name.
Silverblaze felt a ripple in the crowd, knowing they were all talking about how the new leader was still new, even though he had been a leader for a few moons. She watched Dawnclan, who seemed to smirk and taunt the new leader, mocking him. She could see Ivystar, who looked amused, but silenced her clan with a tail flick.
Getting closer to the Dawnclan crowd, she tried to listen in on what they were saying, but as soon as she got close enough, it seemed they had nothing to say. But now she was close enough to the leader’s rock that she could hear that Batbriar was coaching Wavestar on what to say next.
“Prey is running fierce,...” Batbriar was murmuring to his leader.
“Prey is running… fast.” Wavestar seemed very unsure about what he was saying, “Fierce! Prey runs fiercely in the clan. We are…” He paused, listening to his deputy, “All doing well with the coming of the changing seasons. We are happy to say that our territory is being expanded outwards, calling more forest our home. P-please make note of our decision.” There was whispering among the clans, and this time, Silverblaze could hear some of what Dawnclan was saying.
“Expanding? How dare they…”
“He can’t even hold himself on a rock, let alone more territory…”
“Of course Ivystar already knew, she knows already so much…”
“I hope Ivystar puts that stupid crow-food in his place soon…”
“...be ready for a battle for more land.”
Another tail flick from Ivystar and Dawnclan became quiet once more. This time, however, Ivystar did not look amused. More like angry someone told a well-kept secret. “Thank you… uhh… for coming. Hope to see everyone again next full moon.” Wavestar didn’t even seem to notice the confusion he set forth into the crowd. Silverblaze knew that the territories had been the same for generations. Of course, there was territory that was fought over from time to time, like Farm Field, but no clan expanded outwards. It was a bad move, seeing as the clans almost never ventured out of the territories. It was too much land to monitor. But hopefully it would be good for their clan, for Starclan’s sake.
Silverblaze moved away from Dawnclan before they could notice her. Unfortunately for her, she bumped into one of them.
Heartface turned angrily at Silverblaze, “Watch it, mouse-brain.” She hissed. Silverblaze, unsure of how to handle this, backed away without a word. Silverblaze remembered Heartface when she had been a part of Pineclan. She had been a cat to start drama over nothing and whined a lot about things she was to do. Silverblaze was sad to lose a warrior, but honestly happy Heartface had left. Despite her name sounding sweet, she was anything but. Heartface had left Pineclan when she fell in love with Juniperfall, who had been notorious as a major fighter, and antagonist. Everyone said she had been jealous of her sister, Lilyblossom, for finding a mate and having kits before her. That she really didn’t love Juniperfall, and was just using him to get back at her birth-clan, when no one from the clan wanted to be her mate. Juniperfall had tried to attack Deepstar a few times, unprovoked, believing he was doing right for his clan. Unfortunately for Juniperfall, Deepstar was an experienced warrior, and fought him off fairly easily. Silverblaze had been there for one attack, while they were at Farm Fields, remarking their territory. It was a scary memory, and Silverblaze tried not to think about it.
Silverblaze was not wanting to be noticed from Dawnclan, she didn’t want them looking for her, nor did she want them to remember her name, so she just moved away from Heartface, who was still sneering at her, teeth bared, a growl creeping up past her lips.
Silverblaze moved back to where her clan was gathering, seeing Pebblestripe sitting near the back of the group. She felt butterflies in her stomach when she saw him, excited to tell him what she observed and overheard. As she got closer to him, his head lifted, and when he saw her, he quickly shook his head, dismissing her. He mouthed, “Later.” and her spirit sank. She knew that was best. Other clan cats were here, if they found out that Pineclan had been trying to spy on Dawnclan, they might spread that around. Rumors turn ugly when spread, making things seem worse than they once were. Silverblaze nodded and waited in the crowd for the time to leave. She felt antsy, wanting to discuss everything. Honestly, this was the first time she felt so alive!
Silverblaze heard Deepstar call to his clan to start moving, and she noticed that Dawnclan and Willowclan were both gone already. Thornclan, or rather, Blackstar, seemed to be waiting for Pineclan to go first. Silverblaze suspected this was because Deepstar had earlier waited for Thornclan to enter the cave first. She could see both Deepstar and Blackstar where she stood, and saw the silent exchange of dipped heads and tail flicks. She tried to decipher a code they were obviously sharing between them, but to no avail. The moment was over and Deepstar had begun to lead Pineclan away. She tried to keep and eye on Blackstar, but he had turned to speak with his clan, and the noise from Pineclan’s warriors drowned out whatever he was saying.
Silverblaze moved onwards, with the rest of her clan. She felt somewhat satisfied with her findings, although she thought maybe she could have heard or seen more. Maybe Pebblestripe knew more, and they could work together? The thought of working more with Pebblestripe made her heart flutter. He was such a good looking cat, and well liked. She worried about the rumors she heard about him, but knew rumors could be based on just small facts. Silverblaze looked around for him, catching his long fur across the way. She knew that if she kept pressing, he would cave, and either she’d be with him, or he’d tell her off. Knowing that either was still a possibility scared her, but she felt more comfortable knowing he had picked her to help him with his work he had to do.
As the group made their way back to camp, her mind moved to what they would name their kits, if they had any. The thoughts soothed her, to the point that she didn’t even notice that a cat was missing. In fact, no one noticed the cat was missing.

Chapter Seven
Paddlestream
Hanging back from the group of Pineclan cats, it was easy to slip away. They were all talking and discussing the events from the gathering. She knew she only had a few moments to herself, and she moved quickly back to the border of Thornclan. There, she knew, he would be waiting.
As she got closer, she could start to smell the mixing of the clan cats scents. This was the only time she would be able to see him, right after a full moon gathering. It wouldn’t raise suspicion if her scent was mixed with his if there had just been a lot of cats around.
Up ahead, her suitor waited for her return. They had made eyes at each other for many moons now, and had met in secret for a few moons. It was her favorite time of the month. Even if she didn’t get to go the gathering, she would just go on patrol
His dappled grey pelt just up ahead, she moved faster, but stopped short. There was another cat there. She moved to hide, listening intently. Sootbelly was sitting by the lake, another tom next to him. She easily recognized the tall black tom as Tallwhisper, Sootbelly’s brother, who was talking in a hushed tone. Paddlestream moved slowly on her belly, making her way as close as she could. Luckily, the wind was on her side, and it pushed any scent of her back into Pineclan territory. “...not good, Sootbelly. I worry about you, as I worry about our father finding out. He’s a good leader, but you know he would not approve of this.” Tallwhisper sounded angry, but there was also a tone of anxiety. “I know, Tallwhisper. But I can’t help who I love.” Paddlestream’s heart fluttered, but her stomach clenched. Was he talking about her? “I can only warn you. Maybe this should be the last time.” Tallwhisper seemed ready to speak more, but Sootbelly turned his head, finished with the conversation. Tallwhisper dipped his head, seemingly defeated, and padded away. Paddlestream waited, not knowing what to do. She wanted to go up to Sootbelly, but she was lost. Her heart hurt hearing what Tallwhisper had to say.
“You can come out now, Paddlestream.” Sootbelly’s voice rang in her ears, and she moved forward without thinking. Once she came into light, Sootbelly turned to look at her. The same blue eyes looked over her, but she felt like it was a different look than before. “Is this the last time?” Her voice was quiet, low. She didn’t even feel like it was herself who had asked. Sootbelly looked sad, “He’s right. We are from different clans. We can’t be together.” It was a stab, and Paddlestream felt betrayed, “We were meant to be together.” She whispered. Sootbelly shook his head, “If that was true, we would be in the same clan. Starclan set it up like this for a different reason.” Paddlestream hissed, “Don’t you dare say that Starclan would do this. Was there a purpose to Cloudeyes being born blind? Was there a reason my mother abandoned us? Was there a reason for me to be pregnant?” Sootbelly’s fur rose, “What?” his eyes were wide, confused. “You heard me perfectly clear. Congratulations.” She meowed, sarcastically. “So do you think that Starclan made me pregnant for a reason? What could the reason be, Sootbelly? What do you think?” She sneered, anger building. Sootbelly took a step forward, “I…” He started, stuttering, “I don’t know, Paddlestream. Are you sure?” Paddlestream huffed, “I had Nightsky stop me to tell me. I didn’t know until yesterday.” But I felt them before then, I just didn’t want to ask Nightsky to check. She just knew when she saw me. Paddlestream thought of when Nightsky pulled her aside and just came out and told her. She had even advised not to go to the gathering, but Paddlestream had made her promise not to tell anyone until Paddlestream was ready. Nightsky had, begrudgingly, agreed. Sootbelly looked more worried, “Is she sure?” Paddlestream blinked, “You would think if she was the one to stop me in broad daylight, after being a medicine cat for Pineclan for 50-odd moons, would maybe know a bit about pregnancies, right?” She hadn’t meant to be so harsh, but she was angry. Angry at Sootbelly, angry with Starclan, and mostly, angry with herself. How did she really think this would go? That he and her would run off into the sunset together? Sootbelly hung his head, “I’m excited to have kits, but this is just not the right time.” “So what you mean to say is just not with me, right? You seemed pretty willing last full-moon.” Paddlestream spat. Sootbelly looked up at her, “I’m sorry.” He meowed quickly, and turned away, running into Thornclan territory.
Paddlestream didn’t know what to do. So she turned and padded back to camp. She tried not to be upset, but she had imagined the scenario differently. She still loved Sootbelly deeply, but it seemed so one-sided now, she wasn’t sure how to react.
Walking back to camp was what she would do first. What followed, however, only Starclan could tell.
