A U G U S T . C A R M I C H E A L ”Marry the girl you haven’t met yet, August.” “Her family is rich so you have to get married, we already took the gifts.” “She’s pretty, I promise.”
Empty promises. Empty words. They didn’t know what he wanted, nor what he needed. The thought they did, but seriously he wanted his own world. August grew up with a wealthy family in Cheshire, England. His family was very prominent in the social network, raising money for causes, profiting from a very successful industry including male fashion, and from general donations. They lived in a mansion type house, four floors, and several rooms. He barely knew his way around without getting lost. At his old private school, he was considered a prince even though his family held no royal status.. well except for that time they met the royal family for a dinner. His parents had set it all up.
August wasn’t really happy with his family. They didn’t care about his feelings, nor did the accept the way he felt about ‘normal’ girls. It was always against him. Why couldn’t he find a good girl from a wealthy family? Why couldn’t she be rich? Why couldn’t she dress properly. August had a relationship a few years ago that went downhill after a few months because of his parents tormenting the poor soul.
Tonight, that was the worst news of all. “August. In two weeks you will be marrying a lady. We’ve given her father dowry. She comes from a wealthy family and we’ve decided that it’s time.” His father said, a hint of anger residing in the mans voice. August was steaming. ”W-What?? You mean you have set me up for marriage without my even meeting of this lady? What if there is no connection? What if we can’t do this? I don’t love her! I don’t know her!” his voice seethed with anger as he stormed out of the room, ignoring his parents beckons.
The young man, 20 years of age, was being forced to get married to someone. Those two weeks went fast and suddenly it was the night before the wedding. He hadn’t met his bride to be yet. He wouldn’t until tomorrow. Anger writhed in his body. Enough was enough.
His hands worked furiously as he tied many sheets together at the corners, then tied it around his bedpost. He threw open his window, wearing nice fitting khakis and a white button down that was tucked in. Running away was cowardly, but he couldn’t stand it. Marrying someone he didn’t know was cowardly. He wanted to experience REAL love, not something forced. He threw the slack out the window, grabbing his bag which had some essentials, then began his trek down the three story building.
He wasn’t expecting what he saw next. Over a few windows, a beautiful lady was also climbing down in the same fashion as him.
[[ sorry this is kinda sucky !! hope it’s okay !! ]]

Liliana Calore It was the night before her wedding, and Liliana was not doing what she was supposed to be doing. "I am supposed to be with my bridesmaids, doing face masks and getting a mani-pedi, relaxing, while the love of my life is out having fun with his groomsmen." Lili rambled, pacing endlessly in her room. She was sure there would be a hole worn in the ground from her anxiously walking in circles, but that was at the back of her mind. Now she was wondering how exactly she had been hurled into this terrible mess. - "Liliana Jane Calore, you really are overreacting." Nancy Calore scolded her daughter, who was angrily pacing circles (this seemed to be a trait of hers). "This is going to better your family and make sure you never have to worry about caring for yourself or your family ever again. It's not that big of a deal." She stated, simply.
"Not that big of a deal? Are you kidding me? You can't say that! You can't even understand half of what I am going through! This was my one opportunity to choose for myself. To not have you and Dad making every single decision in my life." Lili yelled, her face growing red with anger, her green eyes wide with rage. "You and Dad love each other, right?" She hurried on without an answer, "How on Earth could you strip me of that happiness. Of that ability to find the love of my life and grow with them, and raise a family with them? Or were you going to take that away, too? Were you going to pick kids for us and have someone else grow them, so you don't have to bare the thought of your daughter not being perfect in every. single. way." Lili was now screaming at the top of her lungs.
Growing up, her parents had controlled much of her life; what she wore, how she did her hair, who she dated, where she went, and many other things. But one thing Lili loved, that they didn't mind, was reading. So, Liliana read all kinds of books but her favorite was romance. Naturally, her mind was filled with images of her perfect life, with her perfect husband, her perfect three children (boy, girl, boy), perfect house with a white picket fence, and every other cliche she could imagine. As she grew up, Liliana realized not all of her fantasies were going to happen, but she dreamed of the day she would find the love of her life. Now it all seemed to be going up in flames.
"Liliana, I'm sorry you feel that way," Her mother said, gently caressing her cheek. A flicker of hope glimmered in Lili's heart, but was quickly snuffed out. "But this, this isn't about you. This is about keeping our family's name clean, we can't have you marrying some nobody with no money and nothing to his name." A tear dripped down Lili's cheek.
"It's never about me. Everything is about the family." Lili spat, holding back tears. "One day you will realize that you don't care about your family as much as you act like you do." Lili grumbled, turning away from her mother.
"Two weeks, Liliana." - And then suddenly her two weeks were up, and she wanted out of it more than ever. The stunning white gown shimmered on its coat hanger, but it was a cold beauty and looked more like a straight jacket to Lili. She picked anxiously at a hangnail. "I'm not doing this. I can't give up my whole life for a family who doesn't even care about me!" Lili mumbled to herself. Surely anyone outside her door thought she was going crazy, and Lili felt like she was. So, she began working. Her hands seemed to have a mind of their own as they thew clothes into a bag, zipping it shut and tossing it on her bed, where she quickly tied. She tied together all the sheets she could find, her hands shaking with anxiety. Liliana tied the end to the post of her bed, and pushed open her window, tossing the other end out. She watched it fall and thought to herself Am I really doing this??
And so she did. Liliana swung her bag over her back and looked at herself in the mirror. Her long legs were clad in blue jeans, her feet covered by tan riding boots, and she wore a white long sleeve blouse. Probably not the best for an escape, but her fashion wasn't the first thing on her mind. Lili approached the window and began her descent. Mid-way down, her boot slipped on a loose chunk of brick and she gasped, bracing herself for an impact, but felt none. She quickly looked around to see if anyone had heard, but there wasn't a soul outside. Then she caught a train of sheets from another window, and her emerald eyes trailed the fabric, meeting gazes with.. another person?! Liliana's grip slipped and she fell a few feet, but caught herself, and quickly descended the rope of sheets, her mouth wide as she stared at the handsome stranger.

A U G U S T . C A R M I C H E A L Their eyes met for a singular moment, and that moment felt like eternity. August was stunned. Who was this maiden? Why was she running away? Who made her feel so hopeless that she had to run? The similarities between them didn’t stop there. She wore jeans that fit well to her frame and a white blouse, the same crystalline ivory as his own shirt- which was billowing from the wind that swarmed around him. His heart dropped into his stomach when she fell that few feet, wanting to rush over and save her.
She most likely wasn’t some damsel in distress. She was capable of climbing down the sheets just as he was. It was his natural instinct to go and help her, however. He continued his descent and finally his feet touched solid ground. His parents were out for dinner with his bride-to-be’s. Why he couldn’t be there was beyond him, but he wasn’t complaining. This was his chance to make a run for it.
He leaned himself against the window and took a moment to breathe. He was really doing this. This was really happening. He was really running away from his problems. Didn’t this like never work out in movies?
Then that lady crossed his mind again. He quickly looked up and saw her still climbing down, so he jogged over to where her sheet rope dangled above the ground. Worriedly, his sea-blue eyes gazed at her. ”Careful!” he whispered loudly, respecting her on doing what he did. When she reached the ground, he nervously took a step back and smiled, rubbing his hand across the back of his neck.
What did you say to a girl you just met? Hi seemed a little dorky, introducing himself would be tacky. He wasn’t sure. He’d met many people before but never found it to be this hard to talk. His orbs carefully took in her appearance. Blue jeans, white blouse, boots, she looked like she was ready for a journey. Her dark strands of hair seemed to pull him in, and her gentle green eyes reminded him of the rolling hills back at his grandmothers cottage. There he would ride his horse and just enjoy being free. Now he was being treated like some kind of prince who needed to marry for money.
A cough threatened to exit his lips, so he swung off his bag and pulled out one of the many water bottle he had. He had wads if cash hidden in his bag along with clothes, some snacks, and waters. He had a few refillable canteens as well. He opened the bottle, but before he took a sip, he offered it to the lady. ”Here. That was a dangerous thing, you look like you should have a few drinks.” he said gently, looking over her for any injuries- not like she would have any from climbing down soft sheets- but hey, that was the kind of guy he was.
How was he supposed to introduce himself? Any type of introduction he would think of sounded rather stupid in his mind. He glanced away and finally began to speak. ”Are you alright? I mean, you’re not hurt are you? I wouldn’t want you getting hurt..” he felt his face become red. Why was he talking to her like he knew her? He didn’t know her name, nothing about her. ”Sorry... I-I’m August. August Carmichael.” he smiled awkwardly, glancing nervously up at the two’s windows. What if his parents returned early?
His worst fears were confirmed when his phone began buzzing in his pocket. He quickly took it out and nervously looked at the name. Mom. Should he answer? Should he not?
He ignored the call and looked up at the lady, smiling nervously. ”I take it you’re running away too, judging from the bag on your back. I have a way to get us away from this place, if you know how to ride horse. I’ll take mine and we have another just in case. I just.. I have to get away from here. Now.” he explained in a hushed voice, glancing again up at his window, then off at the path to the barn.
He wasn’t sure if she would join him. But he didn’t have time to ask. ”You want a quick get away? Come with me.” he offered his hand to her, getting ready to run away from the building if she agreed- even if she turned it down, he needed to go.

Liliana Calore In all honesty, Lili was slightly terrified. Part of her didn't want to descend the sheet rope, her heart was thundering heavily in her chest and her mind raced with the thought of every terrible thing that could happen. This man, however handsome, was a complete stranger, why on Earth was he doing the exact same thing as her? It was a little odd. She was a little on edge, and worried any second a shadow would appear over her shoulder with a bag to put over her head. When her feet touched the ground, she took a slight step backwards, her hands fiddling with a loose string at the bottom of her shirt. This is crazy. I'm about to be kidnapped. Liliana's mind raced, her hands shaking slightly. Why was he escaping? Had he just murdered someone? Did he steal something from the house? Why was he seemingly so calm in this situation? Did he not find it odd? Surely he did, no one in their right mind wouldn't be surprised to see someone scaling the side of a huge house with a rope made of sheet. Then again, they had both done it, so if this man was crazy, so was Lili.
With that thought, Liliana decided to throw her worries to the wind. He had seemed concerned for her safety, calling for her to be careful, that had to be a good sign, right? Lili noticed him rub the back of his neck and smile, If he's going to kidnap me this is definitely his first time doing it, he seems nervous. Lili didn't say anything for a minute, simply studying the stranger. He was handsome and a small butterfly flashed in her stomach, but she was pulled from her mind when he moved. Despite her desire to throw her misgivings away, she jumped when he reached for his bag and clutched her own backpack straps, prepared to use it as a shield if need be. Then she relaxed as her eyes trailed to his hands, noting that her bag held similar contents; wads of money, food, some spare clothes and shoes. In his hand he held a bottle of water, outstretched toward her. A small smile graced her lips, dimples appearing. She dipped her head and her long fingers clasped the bottle.
"Thank you." Lili felt bare as his eyes scanned her body, searching for any wounds. She didn't have any, and didn't feel them if she did, with the adrenaline still flowing through her. He glanced away, Lili took this opportunity to study him, tall, sandy blonde hair, muscular and cute. A sigh escaped her lips, she had just escaped her betrothal to find a cute man, her luck was looking up already. "Um, yes, I think I'm okay. I mean, I feel fine." His cheeks reddened and Liliana resisted the urge to smile at the redness. "I'm Liliana Calore."
Lili watched him cast a glance up to the windows, and felt her own anxiety flood through her again. Being this close to the house could spoil her escape if anyone saw her standing there with the stranger. Her parents would surely find out and track her down easily, then force her back into this marriage. It made her want to cry. Then, August's phone began to buzz in his pocket and Lili expected him to answer it, but was surprised when he didn't. And his next words surprised her even more.
Ooh this is crazy! Can I actually run away with a stranger?? Lili's mind was screaming at her, telling her she was completely crazy to even contemplate it. Who runs away with a person they've never met, let alone had a thorough conversation with. It was something Nancy and Johnathan Calore would never let their little girl do, and that made her want to do it even more. The thought of defying her controlling parents sent a thrill through her whole body. August seemed eager to get away quickly, and Lili was too. She drew her lip between her teeth, then reached out, clasping her hand around his. Lili nodded, excitement flooded her whole body and her fingers tingled. "Let's go, August."

A U G U S T . C A R M I C H E A L August was wondering why this lady was climbing out her window. Was she escaping a cruel fate? Maybe a lover who she hated or was abusive? Rude parents? He didn’t know and he didn’t want to pry upon her personal reasons. There would be time for that later. Right now they needed to run. She introduced herself as Liliana Calore, and at least she was okay. Auggie didn’t want anything happening to her. For some strange reason, he felt a strong pull to her as if they were destined to meet. This was weird. He had never felt like this before but he wasn’t going to admit that to this stranger. He didn’t know her, she didn’t know him. Why would they be having a personal conversation?
Now wasn’t the time for dilly-dallying. He was stunned as he looked off towards the barn area and suddenly her smaller hand clasped into his. He looked back at her, his eyes widened. Then a smile spread over his lips as he pulled her forward, taking off sprinting towards the barn. His feet pounded on the ground as he adjusted his grip on Lili’s hand, curling their fingers together so they wouldn’t get separated.
He wasn’t trying to be cute, he was just trying to get away.
The reached the barn and he gently let go of her soft hand, pushing open the barn doors. He could hear the whinnies of the horses inside from the sudden invasion of their darkness, but he didn’t mind. He glanced at Liliana quickly before leading her inside. He opened his own horses door and led it out. He knew that Perseus wouldn’t bolt away, so he trusted the equine enough to stay while he went and grabbed out a horse for Liliana. His back up horse, Pumpkin.
He put on her bridle and reins before lifting a blanket and saddle that fit not only the mares back but also the size of Liliana. He buckled it down and walked over to the new girl. He smiled and led her over to her horse, putting out the step-stool in case she needed it. He let go of her hand away and walked to his own steed, readying him for the journey. He then climbed onto his horse, his backpack sturdy on his back. He put a few more supplies into his saddle bag, such as some horse feed and medical supplies he found. August gripped upon the reins again, glancing over to his new companion. All of a sudden he felt like he rushed things. Did she know how to ride a horse? What if she didn’t and he had to have her on hers? He immediately turned around and looked at her nervously.
“You know how to ride, right?”
His voice hinted at his nerves. He totally rushed things and now he felt like a complete idiot. He worriedly looked down at his own dark brown stallion, then back up at her cream colored mare.
“If not, you can ride with me. I’m sorry I rushed at this, I just.. need to get out of here. I have some supplies but we might have to spend a night in the woods.. it’s a while to the next city with a hotel, plus we need a place for the horses.” He explained, letting go of his reins for a minute to run his fingers through his hair.
He was definitely nervous. He didn’t know anything about this lady and here he was running away with her. This was crazy. He was crazy. Auggie looked her over once again, this time with admiration. She had the courage to randomly run off with a stranger. She was exciting and he was happy to have such a brave soul with him.
[[ sorry it took longer! ]]

Liliana Calore The feeling that flooded through her was wonderful. The butterflies in her stomach went crazy and her fingertips tingled when her hand brushed his, but she would never say that aloud. She had just met August, and to say she was already feeling unusually connected with him sounded completely and utterly insane, but still, she felt a small spark in her gut. And when his fingers curled around her own, the feeling increased tenfold and a smile lit her features. Then he pulled her forward and she sprinted after the stranger, their hands connected the whole time.
The area around them grew less and less familiar to Liliana as they continued running, but soon they stopped at a big building, and August dropped her hand, pushing open the door to the barn. A small part of her was sad he dropped her hand, she enjoyed the warmth and support it seemed to provide, then she mentally scolded herself. He is a complete stranger, how are you already acting this way? Knock it off, Lili! So she clasped her hands together behind her back, listening to the sounds of the horses whinnying and stomping their hooves into the ground, startled by the flood of light. As a child, Lili would ride horses with her friends, and even had her own, Penelope, after her horse died she didn't really enjoy it anymore and stopped riding. This seemed like a bittersweet memory to her, and when August brought a beautiful cream mare over, Lili gushed and gently stroked her muzzle and the groove of her chin. The anxiety of her escape seemed to vanish as she methodically caressed the mare.
August hurried around, appearing a blur to Liliana. He fluttered here and there packing up many things for their trip, loading up his bag and his saddle with every little thing he could seem to think of. Lili watched him buzz around, her worry began to rise again. What if her family found out she was missing and began searching? Surely they were almost done with the dinner they were attending, soon enough they would go to her room. And where would she be? Definitely not there, instead, camping with a handsome stranger name August Carmichael. What a story this would be, Lili wished she could call her friend, Julia, but making sure no one knew about her little escapade until it was too late was the key to succeeding.
Liliana was brought back to reality as the mare nuzzled her shoulder, reminding her of the time-sensitive situation. She nodded at August as he set up a stool for her and Lili climbed onto the mare, clutching the reins and running her fingers through her mane, calming herself. Under her leg, Lili could feel the horse's heartbeat, rhythmic and soothing and the easy breathing eased her nerves. Everything felt so real now. If her parents had entered her room and found that she wasn't there, there was no going back now. No excuse could cover up for a trail of sheets leading out her window. It was clearly an escape plan, and no lie could convince anyone with a brain any different. Liliana's eyes crept to August's figure, he sat ahead of her on his trusty steed, finalizing things. She admired his blonde locks cut short and his intense blue eyes, she already trusted a little too well.
Then she realized he was speaking.
If not, you can ride with me. He said. "Oh, no! That's alright, I know how to ride. It's been a few years, but I will get the hang of it." Lili replied. He seemed nervous, and that made her more relaxed. Knowing they were both scared and unsure made her more comfortable, oddly enough. She smiled as he rambled. "It's fine, I need to get out of here, too, and soon." Lili said, pushing her mare to creep forward, toward the barn's exit. "Leaving everything here behind will be the best decision I have made. Sleeping in some hotel miles away is better than sleeping under the roof of some control freaks." Lili said with a sad smile. "Shall we?" [ ᴀʟᴀɴᴀ » ]
