14 March 1978 Perfect Princess, perfect princess. The words echoed through my head bouncing around as if they were true. They weren't, I knew that. So, another thought came into my head, ‘Every good princess wants the perfect prince.’ This broke me, did I even want a prince? Should I really let mother and father decide everything for me? Did I even deserve to be a princess, no, I didn’t. But, as I learnt, mother, father needed me to be strong, for our people, for them. I learnt to only speak when asked, always cross my legs and smile perfectly. Perfect, I hated that word, if ‘that’ word didn’t exist, I could, I would be happy. I could be, normal. Or, at least free.
14 March 1978 It was at the skatepark. Where I saw him. Gosh, he was looking at me like a complete weirdo. I avoided his soft stare, and I wondered if I had something on my face. My name is Layla. Layla Cardwell. I’m 13 years old. I like to skate. I have a bratty younger sister named Mavis. That’s all you need to know about me; I honestly don’t want a dozen stalkers turning up at my doorstep.
14th Of March 1978
There I was, skating, minding my own business, trying to master the ship, and I saw her. I don’t know who she was with, or why she was crying, but she was beautiful. Perfect olive skin, light blonde hair. I couldn’t see her eyes, because her back was turned, but I knew she was perfect. I have to go now…
14 March 1978 I’m free finally I have been running for ages, with no breaks, I felt like I was almost dead, I was just really tired. I sat down on a bench and tried to calm down, but how could I calm down if all this was happening. I ran my hands through my hair. “Dirty” I announced. I placed my hand over a deep cut on my arm, next I lifted my hand off my arm and the wound was healed. My top was ripped, my legs were shaking and I was hungry. I started to walk home so I could clean up, but then I thought my house would be surrounded so I walked to my friends house to see if they would let me stay the night...
