Shaded Shadow ❝it's not destiny, it's luck.❞ ethan spade ─ ♠ ♠ ♠ ─
There were stories. About a girl as beautiful as the sun on a warm summer day, her eyes as the same amber color as the outer edges of it, burning with a bright passion, her spirit a raging fire that never went out. Her hair, the color of its soft rays on a gentle day, soft as the breeze that blew by. Her touch was like fire, it burned with her emotions, a fire that made any man want to feel more of her warmth, or flinch back by the scorch of her flames. Plenty of tales about her flew by, especially in this line of work.
The twenty year old was facing away from the door, a slight drop of his ever-so-charming smile at the mention of being paired with someone. He was the Shaded Shadow. No matter who it was, he did not work with someone else. His mouth had barely opened to protest when the door had opened. It was bitterness at having to work with someone else that made him not even give the new arrival a mere glance.
But, as the door closed, he felt the air get warmer, as if he could... almost feel the fire of her soul burning bright within the room. Shaded Shadow turned his head to barely give the young maiden a glance, but his blue gaze had betrayed him. Like a moth caught in a fire, the young man was unable to look away for what seemed like an eternity. The shape of her face, how it glowed, radiant, beautiful. The beautiful figure of her body, how her hair seemed to have a natural glow, her amber gaze holding such bright flames of her spirit.
Stories that he had heard paled in comparison to seeing her in person.
Forcing himself to look away, he rapidly blinked, mentally slapping himself and doing his best to focus on the task at hand. He had a job to do, and he was a solo player. He didn't go about this whole world with someone else. He had been alone his entire life. He grew up alone, he walked alone, he ate alone, he slept alone, he lived alone. He worked alone. That was just how it was, and no matter how beautiful this girl might be, he was not going to be so willing to work with her.
Mouth opening yet again to complain about this whole situation and job, and she had found herself brushing past him, his gaze unwillingly following her as she sat down. He blinked as she talked to him, commenting on what had happened down on the level below. He could feel himself heat up a bit, as if this was his first time being near a female. No, he had met plenty of them in his line of work. Some were on his side, some were not. Either way, he could charm his way with just about anyone. The tables had seemed to have turned. He was taken at a loss at her beauty, her spirit, and that only irritated him and made him want to challenge that charm.
That was exactly what he was going to do. If she wants to play a little game, then there can be two players, he thought to himself as he gave her one of his soft smiles, similar to the soft shade of a shadow in the moonlight on a beautiful night, highlighting the rest of his features as he did. A small, yet warm laugh left his lips at the comment. "Ah, what can I say, lass?" he hummed. "I'm a troublemaker. They'll be up as soon as I leave." Shifting his gaze to the man who had wanted a contract with not only him, but the brilliant girl known as the Ravishing Flame, he moved to a chair, turning it backwards and sitting on it, leaning forward and pushing it back on two legs, curious of the answer to the same question rushing around in his mind.
"It is not a job that can be complete just by one of you," the older gentleman stated, taking a drink from the glass of wine. Shade let a snort leave his nose in amusement, rolling his eyes as he lowered his chin onto his crossed arms over the chair's back. "I need something stolen without being caught. But after it is safely in your possession, you are to burn the entire place to the ground, making a huge ruckus on your way out." A bored sigh escaped the younger male, rocking on the chair a bit.
"Listen, Pops, I know it's cool to say that you hired not just the Shaded Shadow, but the Ravishing Flame as well, together for one thing," he stated, forcing all his weight back and slamming the chair down with a loud thud. He lifted his head up, though his arms were still crossed casually. "But I don't work with anyone. I'm faster, stronger and more powerful than any other man. I can just do it myself. Hell, I'm sure this beauty to my left could do it on her own!" He paused to look over at her, with a soft smile. He knew of her. He wanted to make sure that she knew that. His blue gaze went back to the man. "Why have us both when you need only one? You should know that we don't work with others."
A large bag of gold was grabbed from inside his coat, thudding onto the table that held the wine. It was a lot of coin. Like, a lot. Enough to impress a renowned thief like himself. He opened his mouth to argue that it wasn't enough to make him work with someone else when a second bag of coin was thrown onto the table, opened to show that it was filled with golden golems. One for the both of them.
"I need you both. Only the Shaded Shadow can get in and out without being seen. And only the Radiant Flame can fight without needing someone to back her up. I want it to look like someone else hired you." The chair under him was rocked back on its hind legs once more as the twenty year old leaned forward, curious, listening. The amount of gold couldn't usually sway him, but this amount was a crazy amount. "Five hundred gold golems for the each of you to get this completed." That was... a lot. Seriously a lot.
His blue eyes moved over to the beautiful figure next to him. If he had to work with someone else, he at least had someone who could do her job and do it well. He wasn't about being loud and making a scene, but she was. What harm could it be, if it was just one job? It was only for one job. It could be worse. It could be a lot worse. He could just walk out that door and say no, but it was just one job.
"Alright, Pops," Shade stated with his crooked grin. "Tell me what you want me to do."
The man seemed to give a silent huff of a laugh, as if he knew that this would change his tune, making him sing a different song at the sight of his payment for working with someone else. It annoyed him a little bit, but if it meant he could get paid like this, he'd hold his tongue. He'd get him back later, in some other sort of way. He never made a commotion without thinking it through.
"I'm glad you're interested. There are two amulets. A dark one of the moon and a golden one of the sun. These are said to give the wearer some elemental powers. I want you," He nodded at Shaded Shadow. "to take them. Use one and give the other to her. They should boost your abilities. Once you're out, the girl comes into play." His attention moved to the blonde beauty, a girl of legends. "You, my dear, will be waiting to get the golden amulet. Then you are to burn the entire place to the ground, fighting against every man there. He should be enough back-up to get out alive." This job sounded more confrontational than he'd like. Shade wasn't about fighting head on. He was so well known as a thief because he was never seen and did things without a sound. "The second part of this, I need you to go across Ashport, to a mansion owned by a man called Tobias Mistweaver. You're to place these amulets in his personal safe in his master bedroom. And then leave. The authorities should do the rest." So, it seemed like it was a framing job.
Glancing for a second time over to the girl known as the Ravishing Flame, he sized up the whole situation. Shade was a thinker, he planned things. He had back-up plans for his back-up plans, escape routes for his escape routes. He was careful, he was smart, he was cunning. If it was for that much gold, and if it was a fighting job like this... perhaps just once, it wouldn't be so bad.
Shaded Shadow reached out with a hand over to the girl, his blue eyes looking into her amber ones. "I'm more of a guy who works alone, but I think that if I'm getting paid to work with someone, it might as well be someone as legendary as you, Ravishing Flame. I've heard quite a bit about you. You'll have to tell me some of your stories sometime." A possible lie. If he didn't have to, he wasn't going to stick around. He didn't really like the whole idea of bonding with people. He used them and then dropped them. If he didn't need to be around them, he wouldn't. It was how he worked. So he never had someone depending on him, no one but himself. "What do you say? You want to go ahead with this whole crazy thing?"

Ravishing Flame
❝ chaos and beauty ❞
lydia asher ─ ☀ ☀ ☀ ─ In the moments since she had met the gaze of the young man and realized whom he was, the Ravishing Flame had been actively focusing on keeping her flames trapped within herself. They were a wild torrent inside the young woman, begging to be unleashed, for her emotions were heightened and her passion was flaring. The Shaded Shadow. It was beyond her how the speak of him that traveled far and wide across this world had never even whispered of his stunning handsomeness. Perhaps because his reputation was more centered around how he wasn't ever seen. But he was otherworldly in his attractiveness - much like herself. She had never before set eyes on a man that was capable of taking her breath away and stealing her attention simply with his presence, and yet she found that the Shadow was having just that effect on her. Part of her wanted to be fiercely stubborn against this realization because she was not one to let a male effect her, but she found that instead a bigger part of her was curious. For it was not only the woman in her that was drawn to the Shadow - her fire begged for him. More specifically, for his shadows.
It was the same feeling that she had felt upon seeing the tendrils trapping the men downstairs in the pub, only it was highly intensified now that she was in his presence. While the young woman was mystified by this sensation, her flames were sure. They wanted to be one with the shadows that seemed drawn to the handsome dark-haired male; they wanted to burn brightly and create shadows that were his to wield. The blonde beauty felt a spark of interest at the thought of her fire and his shadows together in harmony. What would that be like? She had never had such a thought before. But the Shaded Shadow was different. Never before had another's magic or abilities called to hers. And never before had the woman in her been so intrigued by a man.
The Ravishing Flame coyly watched him. He was playing her game and it was setting her ablaze. He amused her with his words and attitude and he charmed her with his soft smiles and brilliant gaze. There was a dangerous and mischievous air about him that so mirrored her own and her amber eyes were alight - let's play, Shadow.
While most of her focus was on the other elemental, she did deign to spare the hiring man the rest of her attention. She liked the sound of getting paid to set a building up in flames, but the older man's superior attitude was grating on her nerves. He was a little too comfortable sitting there with his alcohol, commanding two beings who could end his life in seconds and insinuating that they could not each perform the task well enough alone. As if there was something he had that was so special that he needed two of the most infamous people in this world. The fire at her wrist twitched in annoyance. She did not have the patience for haughty rich men, however they were necessary to put up with in her line of work. A grin played at her soft lips as the Shadow's dry words echoed her own feelings - he seemed to be bothered by their partnership being forced upon them as well.
"..this beauty.." The young woman's eyes flickered to the young man's as he referred to her, the fire within her blazing. So he had heard the stories of her that roamed this world. Good. Her grin widened as his gaze collided with hers before turning back to the rich man. She was about to open her mouth and slip a few pretty words to the Shadow when instead large bags of coins were thudding down onto the table before them. Her interest peaked at the sight of the very plentiful amount of gold golems. Apparently they were dealing with a very persistent haughty rich man, though suddenly the Flame was finding the man a lot less annoying.
Five hundred gold golems for each of them. The amount was staggering and very enticing indeed. She found herself swaying towards being a bit more agreeable towards this job they had both been coerced into, her annoyance fading in favor of the typical thrill. For that amount of gold and the ability the play with the Shadow, and the chance to burn a building to the ground? She was beginning to wonder where the catch was.
The Shadow appeared to be reconsidering as well and the Ravishing Flame listened closely as the hiring man detailed what he needed the two of them to do. It sounded like the typical framing job but on a much, much higher scale. The amulets in of themselves sounded risky, clearly heavily guarded and likely to be noticed once missing. She would be fighting a lot of men while also bringing the whole place to the ground. The wild side of her was eager for the challenge and as an emotional being, she found herself brushing past the logistics. She would figure it out; the task would be done. She never failed. The second part seemed meek in comparison but she knew from experience that mansions should not be dealt with without great caution. Wealthy people tended to have quite a few precautions set in place for people such as herself. But still, it wouldn't be something she couldn't handle. So long as the Shadow did his part. She glanced over at him and found he was already watching her. He appeared to be mulling over the same thoughts and the young woman found herself deciding that if she had to have a partner, the Shaded Shadow would certainly be a worthy one.
His hand reached out towards her in an offering of a deal and the intensity in his eyes grew. She listened to his words, smiling softly at his flattery. He was interested in her, was he? That makes two of us. She wanted to learn more about this male that was different than all others and she wanted to let her fire play with his shadows. Logically she knew that there were a multitude of reasons why she always worked alone, but her passion was driving her to agree to the question that now slipped from his lips.
"I believe we wouldn't be properly living up to our reputations if we didn't do the crazy things, now would we?" Her voice was warm like the sun, dancing with the untamed spirit that made her so alluring. The blonde beauty reached out with her arm not containing her bracelet of fire, her slender fingers wrapping around his outstretched hand. In one moment she gave a shake, agreeing to work with him for the hiring man's job. In the next moment a wall of fire raged to life in the space between the pair of elementals and the desk, separating them from the rest of the room.
The young woman kept the fire strictly contained - it was hovering, not touching anything besides air as to not send anything up in flames. And she kept it cold as to not turn the room into an oven. It was merely a barrier against sight and sound; benign in its existence. She doubted the older man was entirely pleased about it but perhaps it would remind him who he was dealing with. Besides, the Flame could really care less. She was more interested in the Shadow.
She gently slipped her hand from his, a whisper of a touch against his skin. Her amber eyes remained locked with his riveting blue gaze as she gracefully stood from the chair, her white dress shifting to settle more perfectly against the curves of her body. The fire at her wrist flared softly as the young woman crossed the short distance to where he sat backward on his chair. A small smile played at her rosy lips as she reached out, fingers curling around the edge of the Shadow's pirate hat. She still watched him as she slowly lifted it from his head, his handsome face becoming more visible with each passing moment. Once it was fully removed, her attentive gaze moved boldly over his features. She never wanted to look away from him, he was that stunning. Rarely was a male beautiful, but he was - in a wonderfully masculine way. The Ravishing Flame was silent, eyes shifting back to his before she brought his pirate hat down upon her own head, casting a shadow over her face as she tipped it down low.
The blonde turned from him, moving a few paces away as she trailed her fingers along her wall of fire. "I believe we need to work on the stories they tell about you, Shaded Shadow." Her voice was soft like a lover's embrace, yet still held that spark of playful mischief. She cast a gaze over her shoulder at him, "They have never mentioned that you are so nice to look at." Her body now turned back to him as she moved closer once more. "Nor did they mention that my flames would be so drawn to you." The beautiful young woman stopped an arms length from him. "Tell me, how do your shadows feel about me?"

Shaded Shadow ❝it's not destiny, it's luck.❞ ethan spade ─ ♠ ♠ ♠ ─
He couldn't deny that his icy cold hand felt genuine comfort in her cozy warm touch. The moment that she had grabbed his hand, he felt a jolt of energy bolt through him, his eyes changing ever so slightly. His bright blue gaze stared into her amber one, staring through her like he was staring at a very old friend, like this was a person he had known all of his life. The twenty year old's grip on her hand tightened ever so slightly, his expression only changing slightly.
Just like that, the sensation was gone and her touch was gone.
A wall of fire had come between them and the man whom had wished to hire them. It was startling at first, the bright light making him flinch back, a movement barely even able to be noticed. He could feel the light moving, he could feel the air around the flames, he could sense it. He felt drawn to the flames, just as he always had. Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath as he stared across from him, into the amber gaze of the girl he was now to be working along side of.
Planning out an escape route already, this new element thrown in the room made his eyes automatically glance for an exit, looking as to where the shadows were, to where everything was and where it was, how much time he might have if he were to go here or there. All the span of a few seconds, as he leaned back, no longer leaning forward to stare at the female or his contractor. The young man was always doing his best to keep a step ahead of those around him. It was his sort of thing. He had an idea for everything.
Blue eyes followed her as she approached, quick to take in every little thing, every little detail. Where her hands were, how the dress fit her, how she stood, how she walked, how she blinked. Information to be stored for later use, for his advantage. He wasn't that much of a person to let anything go unnoticed. The Shaded Shadow was a man of information. It was why he was so good at gambling. Of course, this was hand in hand with his ability of being able to cheat without anyone noticing. It was why he was such an amazing thief, why he was so good at what he was known for; disappearing and never being seen. And as this beautiful form approached closer, her hand out-stretched, he didn't let a single detail be forgotten, left out, unnoticed. The color of her skin as the light of the flames shined brightly, the look in her amber eyes as she appeared to be studying him as all.
Normally, simply touching his hat would earn anyone that wasn't a young child a fist to the face. But as he tensed and his muscles went to go slap her hand away, there was something in him that didn't let him. He didn't like his hat being touched, messed with or anything of the sort. It was his prized possession that he absolutely adored. It was something he had his entire life and he had always planned to keep it that way, taken care of and always maintained, only the best of the best in tailoring able to have the honor of touching it, for repairs or similar things. However, Shade only watched her, his gaze changing from curious to held back, reserved, careful, with a hint of annoyance. Even with all of this, he was intrigued by such a bold move by this... interesting creature.
The shadow cast by his hat upon her head, he could feel it. He could feel the temperature of her skin, he could feel how smooth and nice it was. He could see so clearly how pleasing her face was, the different curves and angles. Any other person would have been stunned, paralyzed by a black mist with a few bruises at best if they had dared to take his hat. Yet, Shade sat there, staring, curious with a bit of hesitance and a little bitterness in his gaze as he watched. His hat looked damn amazing on him, but... it looked stunningly beautiful on her. It fit her and it looked very pleasing on her.
Eyes watched her as she turned from him, saying how there were stories that should be changed. He stayed silent, listening, waiting. Her fingers trailed in the flames, like a silk touch. It felt natural to see such a thing, even if it was far from such a truth. A scoffing snort left through his nose at being complimented at his appearance, giving her one of his crooked grins and a wink towards her at that, a hum on his lips as he watched her take a few paces back in his direction, noticing how close she had gotten to him.
Her last question sparked the curious light in his blue eyes. How did his shadows feel towards her flames? It was... hard to describe. He controlled them, they were a part of him. Whereas she described her flames with personalities, he didn't have that with his shadows. They were paths, tools, whatever he wished them to be. He was a weapon and the shadows were at his command to make him all the more lethal and good at his job. His shadows didn't have personality, like how her flames appeared. But her flames did make him feel.
"They are not your flames, lass," Shaded Shadow hummed, standing up, looking down at her with that confident grin of his. He twirled a bit, and seemed to almost fall into the floor, completely disappearing from the room before appearing from her very own shadow behind her. "They don't live and breathe, it's not like your magic. They're the air I breathe, the path that I walk upon, the knife that I throw." In the blink of an eye, he had disappeared yet again, only to walk from the shadow cast by the chair he had been sitting upon, leaning on it with one arm on the top. "My shadows feel nothing because they are nothing." He turned and disappeared, the darkness swallowing him in the blink of an eye to only appear, sitting on the bed. Even if he wished to be open with her, how he wanted to feel the warmth of the flames, to move and turn, how he wanted to make the shadows dance a brilliant tale with those flames, how he wanted to cast around them, he didn't say a word.
Nothing left his lips about how he felt about those flames, how he felt naturally drawn to her. How he had been told stories of the Shadow and the Flame growing up. How they were always drawn to one another, how that since he was the Shadow, there would be a Flame that he was destined to dance with. Blue and orange, black and white, moon and sun, night and day. They were to be opposites, but to work together so wonderfully. Light and darkness, it was what they were to be. His shadows were to be cast by her flames, an ancient dance that had been born long ago, the darkness finding its way into his hands, moving at his will, becoming a part of him. He didn't say a word about how he was drawn to her, how he found her the most stunningly beautiful woman he'd ever seen in his life-time, how he was wanting to touch her flames, make his shadows move with their light.
"Your tales are to be altered as well, Miss Flame," he stated as he got up, striding towards her like a confident panther, his eyes staring down on what he wanted, muscles moving to let his limbs extend and grab the very thing he desired. "I'll let you off on a warnin', my sweet. Touch the hat again and I won't be as kind." It was back on his head, he was close, barely giving her enough room to breathe without touching him. He could smell her warm scent, the alluring way that intoxicated him, made him want more. She reminded him of a warm bonfire. But, just like that, he had moved away, walking so precise as to be so tantalizingly close, yet, not touch her at all as he passed, sitting back lazily with his arm propped up on the chair.
His eyes moved around the room. If she had so desired to have privacy, a thing that he very much liked, then all she had to do was say so, than to put on this little trick of a fire wall. What a clever little pun. The techs from Pirem would have loved such a thing. He moved his fingers from the hand that was propped up on the back of the chair, a swirl of shadows swallowing the light around him. It was the very trick he used to make sure no one knew what he looked like. For you could see him, but it wasn't him. It was just a shadow of a person, almost like a ghost. Such stories were ones that came from him moving about. Well, the ones inland, anyways. Blackwater had its own demons (quite literally) to fight when it came to super-natural creatures.
"I can disappear or reappear without so much as a move of my fingers. I can see everywhere the shadows appear, I can go every place that they travel, I can feel every thing that they touch. They are me and I am them." He had a point to doing this, to showing just a small fraction of what he could do. He stood up, his voice like soft velvet, shadowy dagger appearing in-between each finger on his left hand. "The stories don't tell of what I'm like because my very name is what I am. This will not change, love." He twirled the daggers and they shifted forms, twirling and twisting into something else, bending around his hand and being delicately held with his fingers as his shadowy form gave a polite bow towards her. "However, since I'm to work with you, the light that you cast will always have something stretching out, your flames will have shadows to dance with. I will not let them tell of my beauty, but I will allow them to tell of the terrors I can create with your flames." He stood up and moved closer, placing the shadow rose in her hair, behind her ear, the shadowy flower becoming solid.
Glancing towards her wall of flames as he went to lean against the wall, the shadows melted back down to their normal areas, returning to their normal state as he turned to that of a physical body, his features becoming more than a 3D shadow once more. He nodded towards the flames, as if requesting to take them down so they can get on with what they came here to do.
