I'm probably biased, but is Hollyleaf the best written character throughout the entire series? She's one of the few cats with proper character growth, and most people who used to hate her even began to respect her, which is rare in this series because usually when someone hates a character, they stick to that opinion lol. It's not very often we get that kind of growth, and Jayfeather is another well written character next to her with good growth. I feel like these two are the best written characters, because the others become so bland later, while these cats stay true to their personalities.

Yeah I agree with you. Out of the three siblings I only liked Jayfeather, but when OotS hit she got extremely interesting and bad*** and I was really sad when she died. Very few cats have this kind of growth as characters.

I thought she was easily the best written character in Sunrise and Long Shadows, but Jayfeather takes the cake in the other books.

I love Hollyleaf, but I'd say no. Her arc happened entirely because of a lack of planning on Vicky's end with not knowing what Hollyleaf's power would be and eventually 'killing' her when Vicky "realized she was never meant to have one". (Translation: it got too far into the series with Hollyleaf not having one and Vicky realized she hadn't given her one. So she killed her off to make room for a new cat.)
I do believe that Vicky intended to have her stay dead until OotS happened. I love Hollyleaf's character and the choices she made, as well as her redemption, but her arc is ultimately a result of bad planning, so I wouldn't say she's the best written character. Still one of my favorites, though.

eh. I think Firestar and Cinderpelt were written far better than Hollyleaf. Even Berrynose interested me more than her, and he's a background character. I think she's well written, yeah, but nothing that would really make her stand out to me :/

'Best written character' is a subjective view. There's not really a confirmed 'best written character'. I personally think she is, but others may view her differently. All a matter of perception.

Well she's my favorite so I'm biased towards her, and I think she's really well written.

She definitely could of been. But that was ruined when she had that rushed breakdown because the Erins 'couldn't think of a power for her'. And then when she did return, it lasted very briefly for two books, involved in literally one battle against Windclan/Sol then being instantly killed off a second time. Also, her whole redemption arc is an optional Novella, not everyone is going to read, when it should of been in the main Arcs.
She had the potential to be the best written one, easily. However, the Erins mucked it up with such poor planning. Deciding what each main character's powers should of be step one.

Maybe not THE best. But I do think she's definitely one of the better written characters, despite not being in my fave list. At the end of my first reading of TPoT I finished it with me hating her in the end because of how she started to go insane then, nor was I ever fond of her preaching about the code constantly beforehand, but reading her novella afterwards gave her some added character development between the books she was gone and that brought my hate of her up to a sorta neutral-like. It's a good example of positive character development imo.
