Oh boy
here we go
It was getting to be that time again, time to earn mad tips with drunkards. Faye was cleaning the bar making sure that everything was as clean as she could get it because she didn't want to have to scrub the thing when she got off that night. Dried drinks, especially those fruity one were such a pain to get out. The white haired werewolf took into a deep breath, the scent of the greasy bar food, old scent of the patrons from the previous night and air freshener. Of course that stuff did nothing for her nose which was not nearly as sensitive as it was when she shifted but it was still very aware of the different smells in the bar.
It wasn't long before the bar opened and the people came pouring in. Tonight was going to be a fun night she was going to earn a decent buck too. "Hey Faye, I'll have the usual." An older man sat in front of her and she greeted him with a warm smile.
"Hey! Long time no see Bill, wife wouldn't letcha' come out and see little old me?" The girl joked as she grabbed a few things from behind the bar. In about an minute she had mixed his drink and set it in front of him.
"Nah I got a little sick for a bit couldn't get outta bed, but the doctors fixed my right up and I feel as healthy as a horse!" Bill said grinning at the young girl.
"Well that's great! So your sayin she knows your here? She isn't going to come in yelling at you again?" Faye said folding her arms in a fake stance on anger.
"No no my old lady knows I'm here she said two drinks was my limit and then 'm to come straight home." Her mimicked his wife's voice as her relayed her message to him and laughed. Faye just smiled and shook her head handing him a napkin to keep under his drink. The night went on and Bill had more than two drinks. Of course Faye wasn't the only bartender working that night so she'd only made him two. Of course that meant his wife came in a dragged him out yelling at him like normal. She took another deep breath and relaxed on to the bar, it was nice to have such an entertain job.
Another night out meant she wouldn't be eating tonight. Tonight it was... The bar. Why the bar? The bar smelled of toxins, vomit and occasionally blood if there had been a fight. There were also too many sounds. The noise levels were nearly enough to bring on sensory overload and send her into a fight. But she'd been trained better than that. She was trained to do her job and do it right, otherwise, they'd mess up her feeding schedule, and she was already hungry enough.
Two days. She hadn't eaten in two days, and she just wanted to sleep. Maybe it was the lack of energy making her tired? Surely that was it. Still, she didn't dare to lay down in the back seat of the car. She'd either be yelled at or shocked, neither of which she found pleasant. Instead, yellow eyes stared out of the window at the passing lights, wondering why it had to be the bar. Why did he have to go out tonight at all? The businessman that she protected seemed to have no reason to be out of the house so often, and yet, he was. It was a little ridiculous. But she was a wolf, so what did she know?
Soon enough, the car came to a stop and the back door was opened. As was routine, Tanja exited the vehicle first then stood by the open door as her businessman followed. Only moments later, they were in the bar and the sounds and smells were awful. Or, the amounts of them all at once were horrible, that is. It always took a moment for her to adjust to the new setting she got dragged out to. Hardly anything ever happened here, so why was she dragged out?
Still, she kept her eyes trained on the man as she'd been taught to do and quickly received a hand signal instructed her to sit. By now, he was seated at the bar ordering who knew what. Still, the wolf sat down with her back towards the chair, instead, she took to watching the crowd. Sure, Tanja didn't want to be here, but she'd still be ready at the first sign of a threat.
Faye served her customers as usual and then the scent hit her. Wolf? She knew every scent in her, and hers was all over it too, though for someone not used to everything it wouldn't be the first thing to pick up on. The icy gaze scanned the room where was the other wolf? Then it hit her like a train, the wolf was right at her bar. She looked at the man who sat down and ordered a drink she simply smiled and mixed it for him. Sliding it over she looked him over once. He couldn't have been the wolf. But it was right there. Leaning over the bar she saw her.
Her blood boiled. A guard dog? Really? Seriously of all things. It took everything she had to not curl her lip and growl at the human sitting in front of her. Instead she smiled once more, "Beautiful...dog?" She asked, playing dumb, it was obvious the "dog" was a wolf but like less she pretended to know the better. After all if this man knew that who ever he had was a werewolf was to stop him from taking her as a guard dog too? Faye was very strong willed as a person and even more so as a wolf. She'd tear him a part before her had a chance to put the shock collar on her. Poor thing was thin too, he didn't even feed the wolf right. "Where'd you even get a dog that pretty." She asked just trying to make small talk; if the wolf had any sense or will to focus, she'd be able to smell her scent this close.
It always took two minutes at the most for her to adjust to busy places like this. Today it was less than one. After nearly but still less than a minute, Tanja’s brain was able to quell the overload of stimulus. The music could be ignored, the random yells were nothing. All that matter were the conversations going on within a 10 foot radius and the looks being thrown towards the businessman. As for the scents, they’d been mostly sorted, and most were already being ignored, such as the brain worked. Alcohol, sweat, wolf.
Wolf?
Though she didn’t move from her spot, she turned her head this way and that in an attempt to find the source. Meanwhile, her owner’s attentions turned to the bartender. ”Wolf,” he corrected. He spoke as if it was normal to keep a wolf as a guard dog, and he seemed rather pleased with it as well. ”Found her alone in the woods. She seemed starved and without family so I picked her up and brought her home. Dangerous, I know, but I did it anyways.” This wasn’t the true story, and he knew that. Nobody else did, though. He stole Tanja away from her pack when she was young and on the traditional hunt that would’ve have marked her as an adult rather than a pup. She was also underfed, and he knew that too. He kept it that was so she couldn’t shift.
By now, Tanja has turned around, facing the bar now and growling lowly. In all the time of her training, she’d also been trained to be hostile to other wolves. The scent was coming from behind the bar. In response she received a closed fist. So, she stopped, though her eyes never left the bartender.
Tilting her head a bit and looking shocked Faye let out a small gasp. "A wolf? Wow, so interesting." She said leaning over the counter a bit smiling softly as he told her the story of the "rescue". She didn't believe him for a second. Faye made sure she looked like she cared and thought it was amazing that he saved her. "Wow how nice of you to do something like that for her." She ground her teeth a bit as she smiled, there was no way he rescued a werewolf who had been staving. He would have been eaten. At least she wouldn't have let him live and she had plenty of control over herself and her wolf form. As much control as you could at least. Hearing the underfed wolf growl at her almost made her smile, little did she know Faye was from a very long line of pure blooded wolves who had a big influence in the wolf community here.
Letting out a small laugh because she honestly couldn't help herself she looked at Tanja, "She doesn't seem to like me talking to you too much." She pouted for a moment, "To bad, it was nice to talk to a nice man who rescues animals for once." she was trying to get him to talk to her for the simple reason that was concerned about the poor girl who was trapped in wolf form. Must be terrible to not be able to shift and be a normal person for a little bit. Even more so since she was someones pet. Disgusting, this man was the kind of person her pack had warned her about as a pup.
The man chuckled a little at her shock, sipping his drink. As she continued to praise him, he nodded a little. It was nice to go out and get his ego fed. It wasn't that it didn't happen often, he just enjoyed it. "I know. I like to take pride in my love for animals." He paused, drinking more of the drink that had been presented to him not so long ago. By now it was half gone, though it hadn't quite set in yet. He was a known lightweight, however, and it wouldn't take long. Just under the bar, Tanja was now left to stare at the woman with light hair. She smelled of wolf, but it seemed the businessman cared not for her signals at the moment. So then why was she here? Would she still get to eat when she got home? Likely not. They'd get home much too late for that. Still, she kept her eyes trained on the bartender.
Again, the businessman laughed, giving a light shrug. "I'm sure she likes you. Tanja just doesn't handle overstimulation very well. I'm sure she'll adjust to the bar in no time." As Faye continued, he managed to finish off his drink, and by then the alcohol had begun to set it. His cheeks had started to flush and he was now leaning on the bar to support himself. "I like to rescue animals. It's always nice to see them get back to their normal health, ya know? Would you like to see Tanja up close? She's quite the sweetheart." What he wasn't saying was that she hated being approached. During training, the businessman had no qualms about physically assaulting the werewolf until she did as he wanted. She was more than afraid of people approaching her with their hands above their waist.
And yet, he looked to the wolf who's gaze hadn't moved. "Tanja, go visit."
It wasn't a new command, but it wasn't used often. There was a hesitation before the wolf stood and slowly found her way around the bar. She really didn't want to go around the bar. The woman stunk of wolf, and she didn't know her. The two things likely wouldn't mix very well, at least, for Tanja they wouldn't.
Faye rested her head on a fist and listened to him like she was interested. "Well that is just wonderful that you take pride in that." She said with a soft smile. Good thing she was used to hiding things especially from humans. The pale haired woman glanced at Tanja as she heard someone else ask for a drink. Quickly and with great skill she mixed the drink, the werewolf reflexes made mixing and catching falling things much easier. Though to a normal person it just looked like she was really on top of things.
At the mention of getting close to the other wolf she actually perked up for real. She flashed him a big grin. "Oh I'd love to meet her!" She said, maybe she'd be able to say a few things while he was distracted if even only for a little bit. Plus he couldn't really see her if she dropped down behind the bar. It was clear he had trained her and the only way to train a wolf with a human mind was not pretty. It surprised her how easily the other wolf had listened to him, she couldn't even imagine what he done to the poor thing to get her to listen so well.
As Tanja came around the bar she set down anything she had and slowly moved to a crouch so the two were on the same level. She made no move to hold her hand out or anything, Faye knew the wolf could smell her from the entrance of the bar after sorting out everything else. "She is beautiful." If she wasn't so thin she'd look even better. Now that she was behind the bar concern showed clearly on her face. She didn't mind Tanja knowing. Her eyes met the wolves and she held the eye contact. Now Faye was born on the dominant side, making her a natural Alpha and one day she'd take over for her father as Alpha of the local pack. This locked gaze was not to assert her dominance as much as it was to try and make a connection with her, try and establish some form of trust if possible.
The business only nodded to her. By the time he'd sent the wolf around the bar, he'd started to go off on some tangent about her, telling false stories of how easy she was to train considering she was a wolf and what not. About how he took very good care of her and did everything to make sure she was healthy. The alcohol was clearly setting in, as he wasn't even focused on anything as he spoke, seeming to just keep talking to hear himself do so. Eventually, snippets of the truth began to show. How he beat her that one time she messed up. How she hadn't eaten since the other night or so. Yet, he just kept talking. Mostly about how gorgeous his wolf was and how he was just so spectacular for saving her from 'starvation'. But the truth was starting to show - not that the intoxicated man could tell.
Behind the bar, Tanja had come to a halt. Her ears were half down and her tail was low. Despite how the woman got down to eye level, she refused to get any closer, choosing to stay about a foot away. She smelled of wolf and alcohol, but mostly wolf. When she made eye contact, a low growl began to rumble in her chest. It wasn't often people made eye contact with her. The last person who did it had gotten attacked, and it wasn't pretty. Still, the pale-haired woman decided to do so, and it unsettled her. Still, she didn't break the eye contact, rather, she maintained it. Had she been with her pack, she'd be leading the warriors. She wasn't dominant perse, but she was a born fighter.
And yet, she wasn't sure what to do here. Yes, she'd been trained to be hostile, but there was something about the bartender before her. It was nice, like a ghost of a memory she couldn't bring up. It was dominant. Almost alpha-like. After a few moments passed, the werewolf fell silent once more. The ears never came up, but she took a few steps closer. It was enough to induce her curiosity that Faye smelled of wolf, and only wolf. There was no true trace of a distinct human scent about her, and it was odd. Odd yet intriguing. And, for now, it seemed that she had no ill will. So, she came closer. The worse thing that could happen was that she bit somebody.
At this point Faye had tuned him out, anything he was saying was false as far as she was concerned. It was clear that the wolf before her was under fed, and that meant she was unable to turn and that angered her. He was lucky she hadn't spotted them in a more remote area. She would have torn him apart in a second. Her focus was Tanja. She had picked up on the whole he beat her thing and she had to take a slow and steady breath to stop from throwing him across the counter.
As Tanja moved toward her she stayed still, she'd been around enough new wolves to know exactly what she was dealing with. She was worried about being bit so much because it would hurt, but more because she didn't want Tanja to feel the need to do that. She wanted to make sure she was trusted, because she couldn't stand for something like this. After letting her settle with the distance she held her hand out making sure she was perfectly still after that. If Tanja chose to come that was on her. "I know you aren't just a wolf." She whispered softly so no one else but they could hear. "I can also tell you haven't eaten in days. I don't much back here but I have this." There was a plate on the floor near her and with her free hand she slid it toward the young wolf. "Eat it or don't it is your choice. You shouldn't be with some human you should be with a pack who can help you. I am Faye I am just like you. And you deserve better. If you want my help and food in you stomach whenever you want it then work with me. If not then that's a choice you make." She raised a brow at the end of her sentence.
