Recently I've seen a lot of bad stigma around this specific concept. With a common phrase being thrown around, "They don't deserve it.". So may I ask, why do some characters deserve them while others don't?

If it's done well, I find most characters redeemable.

An example of a good redemption arc is Clear Sky's following The First Battle. He has to deal with the emotional impact he caused to himself by killing Rainswept Flower, and actually work for forgiveness, not just from his friends and family but from himself, and he almost dies several times as a way to make up for his wrongdoings.
An example of a bad one in the same time period is Star Flower. She betrays Thunder and the others, paving the way for One Eye to take power via slaughter, basically, and while she is chased away at the end of The Blazing Star, in A Forest Divided and Path of Stars she just is accepted back into the group by Clear Sky and becomes his mate. While not everyone forgives her, she is essentially just let back in and given a role of importance in the last two books, yet she never betrays them again. She just suddenly *becomes* good and we really can't see why except that she likes Clear Sky (because he's powerful? I guess?)

Star Flower's redemption didn't feel genuine to me at all and even now I don't believe she had good intentions. It was possibly an act so she could settle down within the safety of a group and have a secure spot as the leader's mate.

I, for one, don't think that Breezepelt should get a redemption arc (although he probably will in CT). No one who attempts to murder a pregnant woman and a doctor-priest in a church because his father pissed him off should be redeemed, in my opinion.

Hollyleaf and Skystar were done well. They both felt genuine sorrow for their actions and stopped (although I know Skystar was pretty inconsistent in MFV) and tried to make it up to those they loved.
Needletail on the other hand is an example of everything wrong for a redemption. Sure, she called Violetshine her sister and may care for her but that doesn't change the fact that she was still quick to blame Rowanstar for the problems she has created. Needletail was the quickest, and first one to blame him, just right after she entered StarClan, mind you! She doesn't even try to fix herself. She's still the selfish cat we all hate. She still blames everyone for her problems that she's created herself, even in StarClan.

I still think Star flower's was the worst one. It didn't feel like she really felt sorry for what she did. She just joined the clans' side because she fell for Clear Sky because he was a strong cat and even encourage his woser aspects by saying he never did anything wrong in the past.

I think it just depends on how a redemption arc is written, with some being rushed while other taking their time.

Wow, for once I can't even find anything to say about why Clear Sky's redemption arc was so good because everyone else already said it first.
This is wonderful.

I think Breezepelt could have a great redemption arc and I hope he does
