BirchClan --
Introduction -
For many seasons BirchClan lived peacefully in the same dense forest that their ancestors had settled in. They had plentiful prey, enjoyable weather conditions, and they were barely bothered by two-legs. Life was good, they were thriving. Until the clan was suddenly struck by a strange sickness. Without warning, cats began getting sick. It began with the kits, elders, and those weaker than others, but it quickly spread through the whole clan. The medicine cats couldn't make sense of it and they desperately tried to cure it, but found no answer. The infected cats died very quickly, within hours of showing signs of the disease. The clan was rapidly dying off and the clan's size dramatically grew smaller. What was once a large, mighty clan, was now a small group of scared and confused cats. Those that remained had to make a decision to leave their home and the remaining infected cats in an attempt to get away from what they'd named the Death Cough. Gathering up her clanmates, Birdstar took BirchClan on a journey to find a new territory and start over.
About -
Hello and welcome! I'm mayo, the creator of ths roleplay. Thank you so much for taking an interest. Anyway, this is just a small roleplay that I came up with and there will be limited spots within the clan. I want to keep it small given their situation, though cats outside the clan will likely always be open. Please read through the information and fill out a form to join.

Territory -
Birchclan's new territory is different from their old forest, of course. They settled in a wooded valley, with a thin river winding through the middle and tall mountains on both sides. The forest is not nearly as dense as their other one, with many clearings and meadows scattered throughout. A two-leg place sits nearby the valley and they sometimes go camping or hiking within the clan's borders, which is a new threat they have to adapt to since there were no two-leg dens too close to their old forest.
Camp - camp has been built in a small glade near the river, surrounded by a protective barrier of thorn bushes.
Locations to be added. Let me know if you have any suggestions

(( some starters for Birdstar and Crowpaw. ))
It was just past dawn and the sun was starting to rise, so it was still quiet and Birdstar's clanmates were just starting to rouse. She'd been up since the very first sign of light in the sky, but that was quite early so she didn't expect her clanmates to wake with her. It was a nice time for her to sit in silence and think, without anyone to bother her. Tail curled around her paws, she looked around the little glade that was their new home. Of course she missed the old forest and their previous camp, but this wasn't too bad. At least they had each other, as corny as that sounded. They could live here and become great again, it would just take a couple moons to adapt. Her eyes flitted over to the warrior den, waiting for her deputy or warriors to appear so she could send out a hunting party.
Crowpaw's back arched and his legs stretched out in front of him, poking into the furry body of one of his two denmates. He didn't bother looking at who it was he bumped and possibly disturbed the sleep of, just mumbled a barely audible apology as he lazily pushed himself to a sitting position. This den was much smaller than the one in their previous camp and not a lot of room, but Birdstar said they would build onto it and enlarge it later and that it was good enough for the three apprentices at the moment. He would have liked more room but he supposed the leader had better things to deal with than the comfort of her apprentices. The young tom stumbled out of the den and sat just outside, beginning to groom his dark fur and smooth it out so he looked more presentable.

Russetstripe yawned and sat up in her nest. Sleepily, she groomed her chest fur, cursing herself for being an early riser. Quickly glancing out of the warriors den, she rose and began to walk out, dodging her sleeping Clanmates. She padded out of the den, squinting to let her eyes adjust to the light. Once she was adjusted, Russetstripe let her eyes sweep the camp before they came to rest on her leader. “Good morning, Birdstar.” she called, walking over to where the she-cat sat. She sat down near Birdstar and curled her tail over her paws.
- - -
Pebblepaw was awoken by a jab to the ribs. Grunting, she shifted over to the other side and attempted to go back to her peaceful sleep. Once it became evident that she was awake for good, the tiny she-cat pulled herself up to a sitting position. She sat for a moment, blinking, to try and wake herself up fully. She peered around the den. She had already begun to envision the additions that could be made for more space and comfort. She hoped that Birdstar would let her oversee the renovations. Sighing, Pebblepaw began to groom her tabby fur. She didn’t spend much time on it before venturing out of the den. “Hi, Crowpaw,” she said as she passed him.

Gorsepaw crept towards the bird in a perfect hunting crouch. She was upwind, and the sparrow was oblivious as it tugged a worm from the ground. The apprentice leaped, perhaps a little higher than she should’ve. This was definitely a catch, the sparrow was still blindly pecking at the ground... A quiet meow woe the poor sleeper awake. Eyes wide open and pelt bristling, she turned to spot Pebblepaw and Crowpaw already awake.. “Ugh, you guys.” She yawned. “I’ll never know if I caught that sparrow. What a leap!” It was the first good dream the tabby had since leaving BirchClan’s old camp. She could only dream about catching the Death Cough, which often caused the apprentice to wake in the middle of the night, heart racing. She rolled over, eyes slotted against the morning sun, trying and failing to get comfortable. A piece of moss tickled the she-cat’s nose and she snorted, sitting up. She decided to sit up fully, spotting Crowpaw and Pebblepaw grooming themselves out of the corner of her eye. She mimicked the movement, attempting to calm her spiky fur to no avail. I wasn’t named Gorsekit for nothing, she sulked.

Pebblepaw smiled gently. “Sorry, Gorsepaw,” she replied, “I’m sure you would’ve caught it.” She wrapped her tail around her paws and continued to groom. Suddenly, her stomach grumbled like an angry badger. “Speaking of hunting, I hope I can get on a patrol today. I’m so hungry I could eat a fox!”

( Oh, any ideas for mentors? )
Birdstar smiled warmly as Russetstripe exited the den and approached, her ears angling forward as she listened to the striped she-cat's greeting. "Good morning, Russetstripe." She purred back. "We need to get a hunting patrol out soon." She commented as she glanced towards the apprentices getting themselves ready. Recently they haven't had a lot to eat and she was sure everyone was itching to get their claws on some prey.
Crowpaw turned his head as he heard Pebblepaw's voice greeting him, offering a lazy smile. "Morning," He responded before turning back to his task of grooming himself. Hearing Gorsepaw waking up the young tom twisted around to look inside the den and responded. "How 'bout we go catch one for real." Upon hearing Pebblepaw's words to their denmate he laughed lightly, whiskers twitching. "You probably would have missed it. Bet I'd catch a bigger one anyway." He added, giving his pelt a few last finishing touches before he decided it was groomed well enough. The large apprentice stood, arching his back and digging his claws into the ground to give his body a nice stretch.

//awesome!
Russetstripe nodded. “Once Badgerpelt wakes up, I was thinking of taking Crowpaw and Pebblepaw out on a hunting patrol. Would you and Gorsepaw like to join us?” she inquired. Overhearing the apprentice’s conversation, she had decided to give the younger cats what they wanted. Hopefully they would find some good prey and have fun. Everyone was itching for a good meal.
- - -
Pebblepaw shook her head slightly at Crowpaw’s remark but continued to smile. She turned to the older tom. “Last night, Russetstripe said that we might go hunting this morning with you and Badgerpelt,” she glanced at Gorsepaw. “Maybe you can come too!” Pebblepaw smoothed down a rascally bit of fur on the top of her head and shook some dirt out of her ear tufts, sneezing in the process.

Gorsepaw stopped her attempts to smooth her unruly fur, instead turning to the apprentices gleefully. “Is that a challenge, Crowpaw?” She questioned. “Maybe my dream was a premonition. You’re going down.” The she-cat finished dramatically. While they were older and more experienced than her, Gorsepaw was always up for a spontaneous outing, even when it challenged her physically and mentally. At least it would give her a chance to bond with the other apprentices. After all, Pebblepaw, Crowpaw, and Gorsepaw were BirchClan’s only remaining apprentices, and Gorsepaw knew each one of them was burdened by loss. “Thank you for your faith in my hunting abilities.” She added, responding to Pebblepaw, with a teasing glance in Crowpaw’s direction.
Badgerpelt snorted, overhearing the enthusiastic apprentices’ conversation from where he was curled near the camp entrance, basking in the warm sunlight. If there’s a competition, you’d better win, Pebblepaw. Or I’m a horrible mentor.” He shot the other two apprentices the most intimidating look he could, then flicked his tail to show the younger cats he was kidding. The large tom then approached Birdstar and Russetstripe, dipping his head in greeting. “Morning Birdstar, Russetstripe. I’m hearing the idea of a hunting patrol?”

Pebblepaw grinned at Badgerpelt and his comment. “Of course! I wouldn’t dream of anything else.” She likes having Badgerpelt as a mentor. He pushed her t9 be the best she could be. Plus, it kind of looked funny when they stood next to each other, due to Badgerpelt’s height and bulk and Pebblepaw’s lack of both. She bounced on her paws, trying to contain her energy for the hopefully upcoming hunt. - - -
At Badgerpelt’s approach, Russetstripe turned towards the bulky tom. “Hi, Badgerpelt! Yes, I was planning on taking Crowpaw out with you and Pebblepaw to do some hunting. I was just asking Birdstar is she wanted to join us with Gorsepaw. Maybe a little bit of a competition, even? We can see how the apprentice’s are getting on with their hunting abilities.” Russetstripe grinned. She liked competitions, even if she wasn’t the one competing. A little bit of friendly rivalry would be good for the apprentices and fun to watch for the mentors.

Crowpaw's amber eyes glittered as he turned his body to face his two denmates properly. "I guess the two of you are competing for second place." He mrrowed, swatting a large paw lightly over Gorsepaw's ear to show he was only messing with them. Of course he did believe he was a pretty great hunter, but his pride was only playful banter at the moment. Seeing the others getting ready, he hopped to his paws.
Birdstar looked towards the apprentices with a hint of pride in her eyes. "I think Gorsepaw and I would love to join you." She purred, rising to her paws and turning towards the camp entrance, ready to get out of camp and stretch her muscles. "Shall we leave now? Looks like they're getting restless." She laughed lightly as she looked towards the excited apprentices.

Badgerpelt chuckled along with Birdstar. “Of course, it’ll also be good to get familiarized with the territory and learn which spots are best for prey.” He suggested, hoping to explore farther into the territory and discover its landmarks. After all, Badgerpelt himself hadn’t been out of camp long enough to memorize the territory, unlike BirchClan’s old home. “Let’s go before they start nagging us.” He finished, standing up and whisking his tail with an air of confidence. Glancing at the apprentices, he was glad to see Pebblepaw socializing. She was his first apprentice, and Badgerpelt was determined to show Birdstar that he was a capable and willing mentor.
“Hmm, second’s still better than last, mighty hunter.” Gorsepaw purred, making sure to keep her eyes wide to show she meant it lightly. She glanced at Pebblepaw, who seemed very eager to get out of camp, in order to gauge her reaction, hoping she hadn’t offended her. “If I catch a sparrow, I’ll be happy.” She meowed. Gorsepaw stood up, stretching out her front paws and feeling her muscles loosen. She wanted to impress Birdstar and show her mentor that she hadn’t been dozing off during her training sessions. It was truly an honor to have the Clan leader as a mentor! When she had been made an apprentice, she might’ve rubbed it in. Just a little.
I’m assuming they’re still fairly new to the area, if not, I will edit.))

( Yes, they're still quite new to the area. )
"Yes, that will be good." Birdstar agreed with the tom. With everything that was going on it had been hard for her to get out and explore the territory properly, much less take her apprentice out to learn the new land. "Gorsepaw. Come on guys!" She then called to the young felines, flicking her tail and leading the way out of camp. It was a nice day and not as warm as the day before, kind of cool for greenleaf, but with it being the end of the season she figured it was bound to start cooling down.
Crowpaw raised his head a little higher and grinned, whiskers quivering. "Come on!" He meowed when Birdstar called them to start the patrol, bounding ahead of his denmates to be the first to join the warriors. "Mornin' Russetstripe." He meowed as he took his habitual place beside his mentor, easily matching his pace with the striped she-cat.

Russetstripe stood up at Badgerpelt’s cue and walked over to the apprentices. “Alright, who’s up for some hunting?” She said, whisking her tail around in exitement. She then waited for the other mentors to catch up. She didn’t want to seem like she was taking control over their training. Surreptitiously, she glanced over at Crowpaw, who seemed excited to her.
- - -
Pebblepaw wasn’t offended in the slightest. She was used to teasing from the other apprentices. In her excitement, her tail whisked over the ground. “I guess we’ll see who gets what place when we’re actually hunting,” she purred. Looking up, she saw Russetstripe approach and listened to the young deputy’s words. Now nothing to conceal her excitement any longer, she gave a little bounce. She glanced up at Russetstripe with her eyes shining. This was sure to be fun. Still, she waited for Badgerpelt to join them before she began to set out.

Gorsepaw’s ears shot up upon hearing her name, and stood after nudging Pebblepaw excitedly. She trotted to stand slightly behind Birdstar, a purr rumbling in her chest. The apprentice really was excited to be out on such a beautiful day, providing for the Clan. “I have to catch a sparrow.” She muttered to herself, mouth parted to taste the air. Turning towards her mentor, she purred, “Thanks for letting me go, Birdstar. I hope we get to find and name a new landmark.” The spiky-furred she-cat really was excited; what cat wouldn’t when exploring an unfamiliar territory?
Badgerpelt had to look down in order to make eye contact with his apprentice, purring, “Let’s go then.” They were quite an unexpected pair, but he was proud of his apprentice so far. Sensing the excitement that seemed to drift off all three apprentices, he blinked fondly in remembrance of his own apprentice days. Badgerpelt moved to bring up the rear of the patrol. While most cats preferred leading patrols, he enjoyed bringing up the back, as he could ensure every cat was present.

“Good morning, Crowpaw.” she replied. Russetstripe gestured with her tail for Crowpaw to join the patrol. After making sure he was following, she set out in the middle of the patrol. Normally, she liked to lead patrols, but since she was with the clan leader, the young deputy figured that she should let Birdstar take the lead.
- - -
Pebblepaw, simply emanating excitement, followed close behind Badgerpelt. He was a great mentor. She had to admit, she was a bit intimidated when Birdstar first assigned them together, but now she enjoyed training with the large tom. She craned her neck to look up at him. “Where are we hunting today?” She meowed. Exploring the new territory was interesting, but Pebblepaw was looking forward to the time when she knew it Ike the back of her paw.

The large tom shrugged. “Nowhere in particular.” He was just letting his paws move, following Birdstar. “Is there any area you want to explore? Wherever you apprentices want to go.” He replied, yellow eyes already flicking back and forth as he surveyed the land. “You can have all the fun; I’m forced to watch you and make sure you’re getting ready to become a warrior.” Hearing himself say the words helped to draw him into reality- Pebblepaw would be a warrior in two moons. “Then I’ll finally get to relax.” He joked through a yawn.
