//I worry a lot about hijacking other people's stuff because I'm... active. So! Here's Fae's Jump in! Let's see where this goes. No need to post a form or anything, just respond, no requisite length. (If it ends up as anything big, we'll burn that bridge when we get to it.)
Carefully, a she-cat creeps forward, eyes trained on the prize ahead - the only prey she's seen in days. Snow dusts her ginger coat as she stalks the white hare ahead of her, and she struggles to resist the urge to shake it from her pelt. Leaf-bare, so far, has been harsh, and certainly a less than ideal time to be in her situation, alone with only the dimmest memories of the last time she saw another cat she didn't have to fight off. But being in the woods certainly beat being outside, she knew, the trees softening the bitter winds from outside into only a fell breeze that stole whatever warmth was left under her thin pelt, and the fur of anyone else unlucky enough to be out at this hour.

A tortoiseshell tom watches her, not taking his eyes off the she-cat. He searches her movements, looking for stealth and silence as she stalked her prey. His belly rumbled, betraying the fact that he was going to starve if he didn't find food soon.

The sound breaks the silence of the frostbitten forest, making the she-cat's ears prick as it does. Unfortunately, so do the hare's, and it tenses, poised to burst into a run - which a moment later, it does. Hissing loudly, the she-cat explodes into a full sprint, chasing after her prey in the snowdrifts out of the foolish hope she might still catch it, though she knows full well she likely won't without some kind of divine, or maybe mousebrained-stalker-who-almost-cost-her-the-catch intervention.

The tom ran after her, his muscles working fine despite the lack of prey and warmth. He was accessing this she-cat, friend or not. He needed to know at least some cat that he could group with. He had endless energy fizzing through his paws, making it easy for him to catch up with the ginger she-cat. (We could continue this tomorrow.)

//heading to sleep, then? Well, we'll see how things go!
She has remarkably light on her paws, seeming to ghost over the hardened crust of the snow as she pursued her prey, darting quickly over some roots as to cut the rabbit off. Stars willing, he'd drive it right into her paws, so she could finish it off -- and then, she tells herself, confront him for watching her when she was hunting before she decides whether or not she would share her catch with him. If he didn't help? Before she decides whether or not to claw his muzzle until he's unrecognizable.

The woods have been quite a ways past the settling of twolegs that Lulu used to live in. The young of the stinking giants had shrieked in her ears, grabbed her tail, carried her around without her consent, and one fateful night, as the older female twoleg opened the door for some foreign male she licked like her mate even though he wasn't, the housecat had slipped through the door and escaped into the fields below.
Shrouded in shadows she had been walking through the unknown, scary dark, her umbran coat pressed to the frigid ground and dry grass until she found shelter among the bald trees that reached to the sky like bony twolegs paws. Within a hole inbetween roots about a hundred heartbeats in she had rolled together in a fluffy and silky, pretty ball of black fur.
... That is, until the noise of rushing paws and breaking twigs shook her awake like a wave of icy water. Instantly, Lulu's fur stood right up, rousing to give her a larger appearance, the shape only disturbed by the collar around her neck. Carefully, she peered out from between her makeshift nest. What she saw was way too fast to make out details, but Lulu's amber eyes saw a rabbit dashing through the snow like a well-greased lightning, closely chased by what looked like another cat. She was ginger, looking like the bloody devil among the snow, and a few leaps behind, a tortoiseshell tom.
What the hell was going on? Quickly, the kittypet got out, before slamming her claws into the bark of the trees and climbing up as fast as possible. Better to get out of reach if these strangers turn out to be hostile.

Luckily for the hunting she-cat, the commotion of another cat emerging was all she needed. The rabbit veers away from the noise, and just close enough to snag in her outstretched claws in a single, powerful leap. Pulling the hapless creature under her, she sinks her fangs into its neck and jerks her head, snapping the poor thing's neck and holding it in her jaws as blood begins to drip down from her mouth. Finally. Thank the stars, she had something worth eating. Finally shaking the snow off her bright, reddish pelt, she spins on her sudden two companions, tucking her quarry under her where she can defend it. She knows the tom is hungry, and if her life in the woods had taught her anything, it was that she has to assume everyone is a prey thief.
"Alright, who are you two, and what are you doing here?" She asks, just a hint of bite to her voice. She hadn't scented them due to the cold, but that doesn't mean they should be here. She's been stalking this stretch of trees since she was a kit!

Oh well, yes the red cat appeared anything but friendly. Lulu's eyes widened as she spun to stare the black cat and the tom down. It made Lulu want to turn and run back home again, but with her claws dug into the bark of the low tree she hid in, her glossy coat startled and bristled under the red stray's gaze.
Lulu swallowed, backing away just a step, her ears flattened against her skull. "I, uh..." she stuttered, unsure how to respond at first. She's never met any wild cats in her life. Best not to mess this up. "I'm Lulu... I'm just resting and don't intend to take your food, I swear!"

The ginger she-cat scowls, ignoring her silent temporary companion for a time in favor of appraising this other she-cat. She seemed... unimpressive, to say the least. And that's when she noticed the collar. Her fur lies flat, then, and her claws sheathe, no longer threatened by a lost kittypet of all things. "Well, Lulu," she starts, slightly less hostile than before, "maybe you should intend to take it, I doubt you're going to eat today otherwise. Aren't you a little far from the Twolegplace?" It's a harsh assessment, to say the least, she's sized up the black molly and found her wanting. Who gets intimidated by a single she-cat with a rabbit, anyway? The tom who'd chased after her didn't seem to be much of a frightening figure.

The large bracken-colored tabby tom had been searching for prey. It had been a harsh leaf-bare indeed, and he and his traveling partner and friend, Skipper, were out of luck as it is. We may need to move on soon. He thought. He was distracted by the sounds of nervous meows and he turned to pad through the dry, frosted leaves, only to see his friend cornering two....kittypets? Letting out a purr of amusement, the tom padded forward. "When I said to find us some large prey, I didn't mean this, Skipper." Ace joked.

A Cold chill brushed over Lulu's backfur, and she tried to relax her shoulders. She was unexperienced with the wilds, and she was unsure wether the shecat infront of her was mocking or kidding her, but then again, she didn't seem to do so. After all, what reason would she have to? She still sounded harsh and somewhat Rough, but less so than before. Still cautious About the strangers' intentions, Lulu inhaled and exhaled, before her soft paws tapped gently over the dry, frozen Ground, slowly approaching the ginger… when suddenly another stranger appeared. Lulu startled, her neckfur Standing straight and she jumped in place for a Moment, eyes open widely as she drowned her gaze in the sight of the new tomcat and the other a Little further away. "Who- who is this?? I wasn't Aware so many cats lived here? Maybe I should leave?" she hastily blabbered anxiously. At this Point, she regretted a Little leaving the save twolegsplace, and Lulu backed away a Little.

"Oh, yeah? Not feeling up for kittypet bones? Good thing I scraped up a backup then," Skipper retorts with a purr, lifting a paw to reveal the rabbit she'd killed moments before that was staining the snow around her paws. Her chest puffs out with pride as she does so, although anxiety prickles under her pelt. It had taken her a good part of the day just to find this, and it had almost slipped through her paws due to the strange cats around her. There seemed to be not enough to go around for the mouths that needed to be fed, around here. Mouths that probably couldn't hunt. Hopefully Ace would share her wanderlust, once they'd eaten -- if she wanted cats who couldn't handle themselves trailing after her, she'd have kits.
"You're such a picky eater, Ace. Though I guess I can concede this one... Lulu here seems to be all fur. Guess she gets to live!" The rogue seems a lot cheerier, now that the larger tabby tom has arrived. "Though, all fur or not... why would you come out here if you were prepared to confront others? It's a staple of loner life. Especially in leafbare."

Ace couldn't help but chuckle at Skipper's teasing, especially considering how terrified Lulu looked. The poor kittypet seemed about ready to jump out of her own fur and run back to twoleg place. "If you aren't careful, we're gonna have unintentional fresh-kill on our hands." He rumbled with a grin as he padded forward, eyes growing wide as orbs when he saw the rabbit. Immediately, his mouth began to water; he hadn't eaten in several days. "Great job!" He purred, flicking her ear with his tail in appreciation and pride in her abilities. He wasn't as good a hunter as she was, but with his muscular stature and large size, he'd certainly be able to defend them against any threats, whether they be foxes, dogs, or even other cats. Padding forward, he glanced at Lulu. "Looks like the cats outnumber the prey here." He commented with a sideways glance at Skipper. "We should probably head off soon."

Cool, gripping Terror became replaced with seething Anger. Yes, Lulu was terrified, yes, Lulu couldn't hunt, but heavans be damned, she wasn't helpless. And she didn't have to take the teasing of flea ridden strays. Her eyes narrowed and the fur on her back, once ruffled in fear, now flattened back against her Skin again, only slightly roused with the Aggravation of the kittypet. Her claws sheathed and unsheathed repeatedly, scritching the hard, frozen Ground slowly as she breathed slowly to not explode in pride driven Anger. "Hey," she began calmly, her eyes piercingly fixating Skipper and not even noting the presence of Ace. "go be a piece of dogdroppings elsewhere. You're no better than me just because you're a flearidden forestdweller. I can learn to hunt better than you at any Point in time." She snarled, but then relaxed her facial Expression. "I didn't do anything to you and yet you choose be the awful. I know how to get Food, there's no Need to tease me for whatever Thing you're getting at. I mean, look at you; you're not far off the brink of starvation." she noted. "That doesn't look to me like much to get egoboasty over. But go on I guess." Lulu's tail flicked. Provoking the other cats would possibly proove to be a mistake, but in this Moment, she didn't care. She was hurt that These strangers would pick on her just because of her origin. Lulu turned their back on them, sitting down in the snow, frustratingly tearing at her collar, trying to get it off. "I'm never gonna go back to the twolegs."

Skipper's attitude doesn't seem to shift, ear flicking as Ace's tail tapped it, before nodding her agreement. They should be heading out soon. It's easy to feel safe around him, she muses, putting her paw back in the snow to protect their catch. While she'd caught it, it was to feed both of them, so the ownership of it doesn't matter. Things have been easier, since she learned that and joined up with the bracken-coloured tom. With someone watching her back -- especially someone considerably larger and more muscular -- she could focus on what she did best. This leafbare is the first time either of them had gone without since they met.
"Look, kitty," she starts, "I haven't said a thing to you worth that kind of talk. Us loners," her tone is surprisingly even, but the fur along her spine is starting to raise, "have to deal with prey-thieves. It's survival at its most basic to be suspicious of strange cats, especially ones who just admitted they can't hunt, because that leaves them stealing or starving in this weather." She drags the rabbit, and herself, a bit closer to Ace, on the vague instinct this might get ugly. "Whatever. Ace, what say you to first thing in the morning? I don't want to be caught in the open drifts at night. We'd catch our death."

Ace nodded in reply. "We should take this back to the hollow while it's still out." He suggested. The sun seemed to set sooner and sooner with each passing day of leaf-bare, and already, the last radiant rays of orange and red were cascading over the distance. Soon, the sky would be a canvas of star-speckled twilight blue, and then the inky blackness of night would be upon them. The hollow, as he had previously mentioned, was a large hollow tree that had provided adequate shelter to the two of them while they had been in the area. It wasn't particularly large, but it could fit 2-3 cats comfortably, and it kept out the wind and the chill.
The tom paused, before turning back to the kittypet. "Lulu, was it? What are you going to do now?" He asked curiously. It was clear she didn't want to go back to the safety of her former home, but without hunting - or fighting - skills, and no protection from the cold, she would inevitably die out here. And while he wasn't fond of her spitfire attitude himself, he wasn't one to leave a cat to the elements. He turned to look at Skipper. "Should we let her stay the night with us?" He suggested. "I wouldn't feel right leaving her in the cold. We're leaving in the morning, anyways, so we can at least leave her the hollow, somewhere to stay."

Lulu's ear flicked when she listened to Skipper's retort, only giving her a "Hmh." in response. Though her Body language told words unspoken, as she made herself just a little smaller in response to realizing that she may have been a bit too harsh there. As the kittypet's tail flicked nervousely, she sighed in frustration into the cold and dry leafbare air, giving up trying to remove her collar, and if it hadn't been for Ace's words, she probably would just have left, Feeling unwelcomed at first, but less so now. Lulu turned, assessing the tomcat a little closer now, taking in his large form as he asked her About what she was going to do now. The Question hadn't been in her mind until then. Amber eyes move to look at his paws in thought. "I admit, I... I didn't think that far ahead." she meowed embarassed. "I was going to look if I could find a burrow or something close to twoleg waste disposal containers. Sometimes they drop nice thi-" And then Ace suggested they could let her stay the night. Lulu's neckfur rose in nervousity for a mpoment, particularly with how she had verbally attacked Skipper just a moment ago. Lulu looked up, Fixing her eyes on Skipper's. If she'd be refused, she at least wouldn't be surprised. But there was always hoping, no?

Skipper gives Ace a hard look for suggesting they take this kittypet with them, but he has a point. Even being the harsher of the duo, she couldn't consciously leave a cat with no defenses to die. She's not sure about the other tom, the one that had almost had her coming back empty pawed, but. Lulu? Skipper sighs, and nods. "Yeah, okay. I guess we have guests for the night, huh?" She tries at mock exasperation, but it doesn't work. Ace is too good for this life, she thinks, he really is. And maybe how nice he is might get them in trouble one day, but for the night, she can relent. "Are we taking both of them, or just the fluffy one, then, mousebrain?" It's affectionate, at least. She's clearly not all that annoyed by the situation.
"Besides, it's not like we'll be using it after tonight. May as well let someone else get used to it." She stretches, and picks up her catch, gesturing to Ace that they should get moving. "Either way," she mumbles around the fur, "we should move. Follow or don't. We need to get somewhere warmer before the sun goes down. It's about to get a lot colder." The temperature had barely risen over the day, and Skipper dreads what the night might bring without the paltry offering of warmth the sun had offered.

Ace let out a purr of amusement, following beside the other she-cat. He flicked his tail lightly at Lulu to follow, with a glance at the other tom as they left. He had not spoken this entire time, and he wasn't too comfortable of the thought of letting him into their makeshift home. Padding close beside Skipper, he let his emerald gaze scan over the scorched earth and barren trees, keeping an eye out for any desperate predators who would be looking for a free meal. "One night, and then we're out of here." He emphasized. "I know you don't like strangers, but I think she has a good heart." The tom may be kind, but he was also experienced in battle, having fought off foxes and rogues before who had attempted to steal prey or hurt them. His shoulders and back still bore the old, faded scars of those battles. The only one he really trusted was Skipper, and he really did mean that they would be leaving the next morning. He wasn't a fan of staying in one place for too long, anyway - even in leaf-bare, when most cats holed up.

Skipper bumps against him, nodding. "Okay. I trust you. But if she kills me while we sleep, I'm haunting you forever." She's not sure if she believes in ghosts, but it's a good threat, and probably true. Like she could ever leave him behind, even if she died. "Tomorrow morning, we're out of here." It's hard to talk around the rabbit, and it's still a source of pride. A rabbit this size? They'd eat well. She's not sure where they'll go. But they'll be okay, she's sure of it. For a moment, her gaze flicks over the scars on his back, feeling the phantom sting of the smaller, thinner ones on her own flank. Things saw him as the threat. It's just how it is. But they both bore the marks of countless fights at each others sides, and the promise of countless more. "What direction do you want to head, then? I got to pick last time." She knows he's sincere in leaving early, like she said. She'd follow him anywhere, she figures, falling in step easily. He's probably the only person she'd follow, period.

(Oh, I am here. Fae my character's name is Blood Moon. Not that he's evil!) The tom had stalked away, losing interest. He had come back, watching the cats. His curiosity got the best of him, and he padded out to meet them from where he was hiding. "I am not here to attack. I have been watching you, and I have interest in this, er, group. My name is Blood Moon, a cat from the shadows. I watched you with that rabbit, little ginger." He nodded to Skipper.

Skipper immediately bristled, looking over her shoulder. "The name's Skipper, not little anything. And it's not a group. We're just letting this molly stay with us for one night before we move on." Her tail lashed, a growing sense of unease crawling up from her paws. "And I know you were. Your stomach growling almost cost me the only prey I'd seen in days, remember? And then you chased me, Blood Moon. I definitely remember all of those things, don't you?" She doesn't necessarily want to be cruel, but unlike with Lulu, there was some inkling of a threat here. Blood Moon seemed to be feral, like them, he had the instincts to at least chase a rabbit. Unlike a fluffy little kittypet, there was danger involved.

(The name is very suspicious, indeed. I couldn't think of a name. He sounds a bit like Tigerclaw, If I do say so myself. But, once the group gets to know him, he is very, uh, kind, I can say.) He looked at her, narrowing his eyes. "And I suppose these are your little friends. I am a rogue, just like you. And, Skipper, I wasn't chasing you. I was following you, accessing your strength and agility. I am not a creep. What kind of cat would I be, stalking you?" He replied. "I heard of plans. Of your leaving. Don't expect to see the last of me here." He said. Nothing cold or evil glinted in his eyes as he said the last words. "Oh, and about my stomach? I couldn't help it. You try and muffle your stomach." Lulu's fur warmed when Skipper gave her okay to let her stay overnight, and a short purr escaped her throat, not saying anything as she went to follow Skipper and Ace as they intended to leave before the Cold lightdisk in the sky, aka the sun, set. When the other Tom finally began to speak as well, she thought it to be a better idea to keep quiet for now, moving to stand beside and somewhat behind Ace. Amber eyes cautiously mustered BloodMoon, assessing his body language and words. He said he didn't stalk Skipper, but it did have looked like he was chasing after her. Personally, Lulu would classify a cat following another without making their presence known over an extended period of time a stalker. The kittypet twitched her Whiskers in thought. "If I may," she meowed shortly, "if you didn't mean to stalk her, you had a weird way of showing that." She didn't mean to sound accusatory. She believed him that he didn't mean harm, but she still thought that he was maybe just going wrong about the whole situation.

Blood Moon's eyes flicked to Lulu, narrowing his eyes. "You didn't see it," He replied, and looked back to Skipper. "Skipper, your speed and agility will make it through your, um, trek, and your frame is strong, no matter the season. Lulu, the nights are cold, but you've made it through each one, through the frost. You could make it too, if you went with Skipper. Ace, your muscular build pushes you through, even at the hardest of times. The frost doesn't weaken you, nor tire you out. You are all built in a way I've never seen. I have never taken interest in cats, but you all changed that. You cats are like none I've ever seen, in my experiences. You all have something you don't see in yourselves. You must know that." He said with an edge to his voice. "Skipper, your journey has deeply intrigued me. I will see to it, if I may." He dipped his head politely, his tortoiseshell fur rippling. "It would be an honor to let us all join you. I will give you until tomorrow's early morning to settle things. It would be a pleasure to protect you all in any way I can, since you are worthy of my trust." He said. "I will be here tomorrow, and you can tell what you think." He said, and padded off.
