That’s right,,, I need one of y’all fine artists to get your butts over here and help me. So uh, I’ve encountered an unfortunate art obstacle when it comes to shading and appropriate colors. I’m truthfully terrified to play around with colors in scenes and backgrounds and there for have no examples of what my art looks like st this time. Buuut I’m deeply curious as to how some of you folks make such gorgeous lighting and shadows in your art. Please,, someone help my poor last soul. ft. My lastest piece bc hey, I have some FOOLISH shading going on)) no one complain about the dirty word, I have a spoiler up and this is your warning NDJSJS WHOOPS

Well, I'm not really the person for this, but I make sure I have my settings as follows - shading layer on Shade and my lighting layer on Luminosity. It really makes the colors pop. And I'll add a gradient only on the character, set it to Lumi & Shade, set the opacity down, and voila! I use Paint Tool Sai, and I know this wouldn't work with, say, MS Paint or such, but that's my advice.

Ahh thank you both! I’ll be sure to use that guide! For now my shading knowledge is very minimal- so I appreciate the visual!

If I may add in, try drawing a small sun or lightbulb in a corner or in a location where light would come in while you're shading and coloring, so you know to keep the angle of the shading constant. When I get home, I can help you with alot of stuff and give you tips! I also will state that you can make shading a certain color depending on the color of your background. If it's night time, a dark violet or blue shade layer will do you wonders. If it's bright out, a more orange, red or even green will do wonders as well.
