Think of how much it would say about the warriors culture. I mean, we had Crookedstar, Brokentail, One-eye, Halftail and Deadfoot already. Being named after deformities was not a new thing and none of the rest of the kits seemed to mind. All of those cats (we didn't know Crookedstar's backstory at the time) had either been born the way they were got got injuries nobly. Brightheart didn't. She went again her leader's and deputy's orders and did something stupid. Wouldn't it have been cool for Bluestar to give her the name Brightheart first, in complete disregard for her act, rendering it in vain with lack of acknowledgement. Furthermore it would be ironic and and every time a cat heard her name at Gatherings they'd know she failed her clan. What a horrible punishment. It would be really cool and then Fireheart could change it to Lostface and it would be see as an honorable name because it acknowledges she sacrificed something.

Uh... the name made Brightheart miserable. Each cat is different. The others only didn't mind their name change because they didn't care. Bluestar named Brightheart Lostface to show her anger. It was disrespectful. She shouldn't have been Lostface. Her name is fine.

Yes, but she could have easily been written so that it didn't and the name Brightheart could have made her miserable because of generally accepted culture.

Lostface was a cruel name that's a constant reminder of the most traumatic moment in her entire life. Brightheart is a name that shows that her trauma and loss don't define her, her strong spirit does.

Ok I think you guys are entirely missing the point. You're thinking of what is true in canon rather than the AU world I'm suggesting. I think it's very unique worldbuilding

Dude, it was a cruel name and her face was completely disfigured. That affects her enough.

I see what you're trying to do, but I don't think it would match Warriors? Those cats had their names changed on their own terms, and I think it's hard to imagine an AU where she would be happy with it because it's a reminder of her failure. Her mistake earned her the name and it was punishment enough. The Clan showed horror for her name because of it being so brutal. Even if she accepted it, it would still be a bit weird and still out of character for her. However, power to you for trying to think outside of the box.

It was even mentioned that Bluestar (Bluepaw at the time) thought White-eye's name cruel in BP. And Stormkit was horrified when he became Crookedkit, his mother intended it for him to be shamed for sneaking out of camp. I like your concept, but the warriors verse has shown some cats do think naming them after a disfigurement is cruel. It's like if Briarlight's name was changed to Brokenback or something. The fandom would have been in an uproar.

I'd say it's different for each cat. There are some who think it's cruel, and there are others who don't mind or care (like One-Eye, who flat-out said that she doesn't care what they call her as long as she gets food on time).

Oh so in this AU, would Lostface grow to love her name? Would she accept her faults and learn that she could manage to become more than other cats think of her?
This sounds like an interesting AU and take on the name Lostface! I think it would be a great show of how she has courage to face her actions and move forward in life.
I had wished this happened in the books, but didn't mind the name change simply because I don't really care about Brightheart as a character.

Eh, not the biggest fan of this. The name Lostface caused Brightheart a lot of psychological trauma, and I just can't imagine she would grow to like it. That would be like growing to accept that you were named after something psychologically traumatic in your life, and living with those memories every single day.
That would drive Brightheart to insanity.

She's still traumatized by it in canon

What if instead of changing Lostface's name to Brightheart, Firestar changed it to Foundface?

What if instead of changing Lostface's name to Brightheart, Firestar changed it to Foundface? Why not go completely opposite and change it to Foundbutt?

It could work, but the experience would have to be less traumatic for it to not be cruel.
You would also need to change Bluestar’s motivation for the name. She thought Brightpaw was going to die and (probably) wanted to show how she thought of StarClan for ‘abandoning’ ThunderClan. Or something.
