A badger and her cubs attacks the leaders and their apprentices on patrol. Both leaders lose a life, Slashpaw is left paralyzed, and Alderpaw dies a few days later from the injuries the badgers inflicted.
Dawnstar gives her former apprentice his warrior name due to his courage and bravery, but he will not be allowed to perform a warrior’s duties.

While out hunting, Onelight loses his footing and falls off a cliff. His mangled body is found soon after. His mate, Shardfire is deeply distraught and reveals she is carrying their second litter of kits.
Snowstar quietly asks her child to move to the Nursery, the tabby doesn’t argue.

Mossystar is serious about his vengeance muhaha ))

Snowstar launches a plan to take her stolen clan members back, but fails to do so. She loses two lives and Raccoonfang is severely wounded. He survives but is mentally scarred and gives up his warrior duties to follow the path of a medicine cat.

While trying to plan another attack, a group of cats from the enemy clan arrive with Mistyswipe's last two kits and one kit they claim to belong to Shardfire. The group defected from their clan by sneaking out as many kits they could and they want to help defeat Mossystar. Snowstar accepts them into the clan and they come ever so much closer to overthrowing Mossystar.

Before the clan can make another attack Mossystar attacks the camp again. He attacks the nursery personally and Sorrowleaf, Songkit, Whisperkit, and Mintfur are slain. Snowstar confronts her former lover and tries to kill him, but fails. Mossystar pins Dawnstar down before Snowstar and kills her over and over until he brings her down to one life. He makes a long drawn out villainous monologue about revenge abd stuff and whatnot, and then tattempts to take Dawnstar's final life. But he fails. Birdsong sacrifices his life to save the leader and Dawnstar is able to get away safely. With Dawnstar by her side, Snowstar and her clan drive out Mossystar and his clan out of their camp. In the fight, Shardfire and another one of her kits escaped and return to the clan. She reports that Mistyswipe was killed after her kits were rescued and that her two kits are the only ones left in her litter, as the rest were forced to fight in battle and perished. She returns to the nursery and happily reunites with Rubykit. Bonetail becomes deputy.
