HollyClan mounts an attack on AppleClan, trying to drive them out of their camp again. While the attack is repelled, with the strongest rouge helpers, Stardust, Blaze, and Sunrise, at the front of the defenders, some territory is lost around the borders. There aren't any deaths or major injuries, but it lets the Clan know that they're still in danger.

Some days following the battle, both Sunrise and Honeycomb make the decision to officially join the Clan. Both she-cats are made warriors, Jadestar seeing little reason to first make them apprentices after the time they’ve spent among the Clan. They would hopefully adjust to the code once the other Clans had seen reason.

The full moon draws near and many of the clan wonder if they were going to the gathering. They hadn't since they were chased off to the lake but would now be a good idea to reestablish themselves back in the other clans' minds? Featherfall insists that going would be a show of strength but Stardust worried that taking warriors away from camp might leave it undefended. Jadestar tries to reassure him that clan customs make the gathering a night of peace but the outsiders argue that the other clans hadn't been too honorable thus far.

But after some thought, Jadestar decides that it would be best to stay away from the Gathering. "StarClan never stopped the other Clans from driving us from our home," he says. "Would they cover the moon if the others attacked us at the Gathering? Tensions are still too high. We'll stay away for a while." In the meantime, Spider and Stardust also join the Clan permanently.

Stardust's reason for staying permanently is clear. Him and Pearsong have been inseparable lately and although the both of them consider themselves too old for kits of their own, they do like the idea of becoming mates. This raises the other question of his collar. To maintain the peace with IvyClan, Jadestar requests that he give up his collar. "I understand that it is apart of who you are but as an official clanmate, you will need to work with our customs now. I'm not telling you to rip it apart, change your name or forget your past, just to take it off. It is for the greater good of the clan, your new home." After much deliberation, he works with the medicine cats to slip it off with minimal pain. He keeps it with him in his nest as a token of his former life.

AppleClan arrives at the gathering to see the IvyClan and HollyClan leaders both present. MintClan is noticeably absent, yet the Clans reason this is likely due to the high rain waters still being present within the watery Clan’s territory.
The IvyClan leader welcomes Jadestar whole-heartedly while the HollyClan leader bristles lightly in response.
“They shouldn’t be here.”
“Quiet, Wispstar. I believe AppleClan has suffered enough at our claws. The drought is no more and they have been punished enough for their secrets and lies.” The IvyClan leader grunted, focusing his gaze on the pale leader before turning to look at Jadestar, nodding his head warmly to the new leader.
Wispstar’s fur remains bristled even as he reports the death of his deputy, noting that they died by a fox trail. The new HollyClan deputy is also mentioned.
There is surprisingly no accusation thrown and AppleClan remains uncertain if the HollyClan leader even knows the truth.
Featherfall hears the quiet sneer from IvyClan’s deputy as she speaks to the new HollyClan deputy,, “It’s likely one of those spiked collared cats, horrid monsters. Thistlestem seems to trust AppleClan’s words that they’ve casted them out… Wouldn’t surprise me if those bandits were still hanging around.”
“What makes you so certain that AppleClan isn’t lying again?” The new HollyClan deputy asks with suspicion.
“It’s one thing to hide secret territory, it’s another to toss aside the body of an enemy deputy with little care for our ranks and code. A spiked cat certainly would, I’ve seen them throw cats into oncoming monsters.” She explains, Featherfall having to strain his ears to hear the conversation between the two deputies.

The gathering makes Jadestar worry for the safety of the clan after Featherfall reports what he heard. He asks Stardust, now an official member and mate to Pearsong, to rethink his decision about his collar. After much deliberation, the tom does get it off with some help from the medicine cats and keep it in his nest as a token of his past. Jadestar also speaks to Cloudshine and Spider about exactly how they left the deputy's body and if there was any way HollyClan could tell if it were a cat or a fox that caused those wounds. The looming voice of Hawkstar's life of honesty rings in the leader's head as he wonders if it were best to come clean about their deputy's death.

Tendrilfur and Waterblossom become mates but the she-cat is afraid to have kits while tensions are still high. She also longs to see her mother Emerald and wonders if she and Lightfire were doing alright in the twolegplace. She often mentions wanting to visit them to both her mate and brother. Fireglow tries to dissuade her, having been hurt that his mother would abandon the only home he knew.

Blaze and Rocky return to their lives as rogues after noting the rest of the rogues had chosen their path. The two leave with an awkward goodbye to their friends, surprised that they were eager to stay in clan life. The two wish them luck especially once the rains had ended. They also add that it was not likely they would be coming back, especially Rocky. The tom had already been critically injured once due to the war and he wanted to avoid near death experience like that.

Spider is the first to accept the name change. The tom has enjoyed living in a clan so far and he has become fast friends with Stonesong. Sunrise and Honeycomb are also enjoying the security from being in a clan. As the rains begin to ease and the floodwaters have begun to return to normal, Pinenose asks if it meant they could now enter the lake territory safely. Jadestar agrees that they should at least check it out, hoping that they might be able to retrieve Hawkstar's body if it were still around. Featherfall and Pinenose lead a patrol to scout around and are surprised to find the land completely wrecked. The floods brought massive logs and even twoleg trash scattered all through out the land. Trees had been uprooted, their former makeshift camp left a wreck, and the lake had become unrecognisable. They assess that it would take many moons to clear everything out back in manageable condition and even then it would be different. After they return with the news, Jadestar grows solemn and says perhaps it was a sign. "The secret has been revealed and we have suffered for keeping it hidden for this long. It may be a time to let go of the lake for good. I shall inform the other clans at the next gathering and have them see if there was anything worth fighting for but from this point onwards, AppleClan will no longer use the lake."

The other leaders have little to share so Jadestar steps forwards and announces what had happened to the lake. "As you all know, my clan has suffered from keeping the lake a secret. It was not right for AppleClan to have hidden it from you especially during a troubling time and, although it is much too late, I would like to apologize on behalf of everyone. I want to learn from generations passed and be more upfront about things - no more secrets for the good of all clans. As such, I am inviting all the clans to come and see what has become of the lake since the flooding. I have deemed it unusable and no AppleClan cat will set foot in that land again. If your clan would like to use it still and are willing to fight for it, please see for yourself if its worth all the bloodshed." The gathering bursts into whispers but AppleClan held their heads high. IvyClan's leader wishes for peace and says they have no use for a land that was so far away from their home. MintClan and HollyClan however give snide remarks and accept Jadestar's offer and will send patrols soon. Returning home, Jadestar felt a great weight lifted off his shoulders and hoped that this would finally bring peace.

Even if Stardust is not old enough to have kits, Pearsong’s age proves to be the she-cat’s detriment. She gives birth prematurely to a small still-born litter with her life hanging in the balance.

MintClan and HollyClan send in their patrols. It is a bit awkward especially as Horsetail and Winterstar were both present but, upon seeing the destruction at the lake, both clans agreed to stop trying to fight for the land. Winterstar leaves a scathing remark that AppleClan had finally stopped acting high and mighty for a change. She still had not forgotten the troubles she and her mentor had gone through during Patchstar's reign and it did not seem likely this grudge would go away.
