Summer Solstice
Pain shot down my legs as I rounded the homestretch turn. The whip landing on my rump as we finished the turn and headed for the final stretch. I was full out sprinting. We crossed the finish line just ahead of my training partner, Visual Voyage. We cantered halfway around to cool off... hardly a cooling. I suppose I should introduce my self. I am Summer Solstice... a 2 yr old Thoroughbred. Let me show you the secrets I hold... I promise you'll be amazed.
"She isn't completely ready..."
"I know I wasn't that young training for the races..."
"I don't know what they see in her... she's too long and lanky... no where near our breed standards. She's a waste."

Summer walked through the doors to her high school. It was her first freshman day! She stopped by her locker, grabbed the books for her first 3 classes (she wasn't able to get to her locker between them.), and started down to her homeroom.
Her homeroom teacher was a 20 something year old man, who had a slight accent. Summer took a deep breath, blew it out through her nose, and opened the door. All eyes turned to her. Six boys, and 5 girls, not counting herself. *This should be interesting....*
"Mr. Hadley... which desk is mine?"
The homeroom teacher, Mr. Hadley lifted his eyes from his paper. He had shimmering gray eyes and dark brown hair. He was wearing a gray plaid/striped shirt, and khakis.
Motioning with his hand he directed her to her desk.
Summer leaned over to whisper to her friend Austin when the bell rang. Mr. Hadley stood and motioned for all the kids to rise for morning prayer and the pledge. Summer forced her lips into a slight smile. She wasn't all that excited to be there. This was new... Everything was new. And her secret wasn't helping. She hadn't found the exact balance to control it... her powers varied day to day.
Mr. Hadley led them in the prayer and pledge. As soon as the announcements were finished, the bell rang and Summer was knocked over by the students rushing out of the classroom.
Mr. Hadley ran over to her. "You okay?" he chuckled.
"Fine." she spat. "Just not having a great day."
He frowned, "Why's that?"
She looked at him then looked away, "My dad has been deployed. My mom is never home, and I was just trampled by 11 kids."
He smiled, and helped her up. "I'll show you to your class."
