She left you a message, she thanked you on the phone 'Cause you picked up her life she threw on the floor You left the hall lights on walked out and locked the door Hendrix and Zoe met at a bar and hit it off like a match to paper. The spark was instant. At the end of the night, he leads her back to her home, and puts her to rest - leaving his number in case she needed to contact him. This is the start to a romantic spiral. But, it doesn't come without drama. Hendrix is a second-year student at Glendale College and Zoe attends rival ______ college. Usually this is fine, right? Wrong. These colleges have a deathly rivalry it's pretty ridiculous really, but the students just do NOT mix! So upon this discovery, they have to tiptoe around with their little romance.

CharactersHendrix Ferra - 21 - aetherHendrix is a little tall - not very tall, but tall enough. That, and he is well muscled from running track - leaving him fit and lean. Hendrix is named after his fathers obsession with the famous singer 'Jimi Hendrix', and ironically, Hendrix isn't much a fan of his music. He has light brown hair that isn't really able to be styled because it isn't quite thick enough - instead, it falls down near his ears with little tousled curls. When he gets it cut, he goes for the classic 'short back and sides'. He has dark green eyes, with some brown flecks, but not quite enough to call it hazel. His skin is more on the pale side and he has a few faint freckles over the bridge of his nose. Hendrix is sweet, he is the kind of person who will go above and beyond to make someone happy - he is a people pleaser. Hendrix is quite an emotional person, he doesn't like to admit that, but he is very empathetic. Hendrix does like to joke around too, but sometimes doing more dare-devilish things aren't things he enjoys. That being said, when he truly believes something, he can be a bit rash on making decisions. For the most part he is just cool, calm, and collected. Until a super cute puppy is in eyeshot, and he gets a little teary eyed. His sister, Petunia, is only one year younger than he is - leading people who do not this to mistake them for twins.Zoe Lane - age - PopZoe isn't very tall. She's about 5'4, but has a very compact and strong build. Even before the apocalypse, she was very into sports and running and has kept those hobbies as good as possible in this world. Her hair is a dark brown, almost black, and is kept somewhat long, but always braided it to keep it out of her ways. Her eyes are a very dark and saturated blue, popping out against her dark hair and somewhat pale skin. She has a necklace with a silver chain and a beautiful silver 'Z' on it. It was a birthday present from her parents, and she refuses to part with it, keeping it tucked into her shirt at all times. She has a nervous habit of playing with the Z when she's unsure of herself. Zoe is a complex individual, to say the least. She likes to put on a show of bravado. She likes to make others believe she's invincible. And she thinks she is, at times. Zoe is the type to rush headfirst into things with little planning or thinking about consequences. She's a reckless individual and is always looking for some kind of rush instead of worrying about keeping herself safe. She's impulsive and stubborn, much more likely to get into a fight than to talk things out calmly with others. She has a typical rebellious, 'I know what I'm doing' teenage attitude and will often do the opposite of what she's told because she can. She does has a soft side and is secretly terrified, though she does her best to keep that side hidden. Her relationship with her brother kind of depends on the day. She either tries to rebel against him and do what she wants because she believes she's old enough to handle herself, or she's clinging to him for comfort. Andrew is the only one, besides her parents, that knows about her soft and fearful side. She's the type to have very high highs and very low lows, often closing herself off from others when she's dealing with something. She also sleeps with a stuffed dog that she's had her entire life, but she keeps it a secret. Side Characters
Petunia Ferra - 20 - aether Unlike Hendrix, Petunia isn't really tall - she's more of an average height, somewhere around 5'4 or 5'5. She's rather petite, really, being thin and more on the pale side. Don't let this deceive you, though. Petunia was named by her mother after her mothers favourite type of flower - but Petunia isn't much of a flower girl. She has an almost exaggerated love for life, and mix that with her trouble-maker tendencies, you've got a girl who is always up to something. She loves to go out and run a muck - skinny dipping at the beach, dancing like nobody is watching, ding-dong-ditch - all kinds of dumb things that people will say you regret, but she probably never will. Petunia's brown hair falls down just past her shoulders in a kind of wavy-curly style that she usually has put up anyway. Her eyes are dark green in colour with some brown around the iris - but not quite hazel. Petunia isn't really interested in getting hooked in a relationship, but she does like to muck around and flirt and just 'have fun', as she says. It is rather surprising that she and Hendrix are siblings when they seem like opposites, but they are actually really friendly with each other, and if Petunia sees someone making fun of Hendrix, she'll pounce. She is quite protective.

Hendrix wasn't usually the kind of guy who typically spent his evenings in a bar. Which is why he looked a little awkward as he fiddled with a cup that was filled with some alcoholic concoction. His friend was DJing which is why Hendrix had made an appearance to support him but... he didn't know anyone else in this bar and his one and only friend was up on stage hyping up the crowd. The dance floor was filled with hot, moving bodies, so Hendrix took refuge by the bar. His foot tapped away to the beat of the music and his head moved back and forth - making his curls sway from side to side. He let his gaze drift around the room slowly, taking in the bartender talking to a pretty lady and offering her another drink. Watching a guy and a girl dance together, then they bumped into someone else, and they laughed it off. Issac - his friend on the DJ - was pumping his hand in the air, the grin on his face was evident even from where Hendrix stood. It was a fun environment, even if Hendrix didn't know where to stand or what to do.
He took a sip of his bitter drink and contorted his face in distaste - it was some sort of bitter beer that just did not roll well over his taste buds. He turned around to the another bartender - who wasn't chatting up a lady - and smiled sheepishly, "I might grab another drink, Sir," he shouted over the music, "uh... a cider, please?" Hendrix was new to the alcohol game but at least he knew he liked ciders. The bartender turned, poured out a drink, and handed it back over. Hendrix passed him some money, and their exchange ended. He resumed his position - tall, awkward, staring... only now he had something to drink which he enjoyed. But after a few minutes, he saw someone he recognised in the crowd. Petunia? How did she get in here? She's not old enough! He raised an eyebrow, and Petunia must have felt someone watching her, because suddenly he caught her gaze. As he stepped forward to approach her, she slipped through the sweaty crowd in the opposite direction. Hendrix stepped forward again, he his focused in the direction in which his little sister had disappeared - although he'd already lost her, she was so short she blended in amazingly.
Being so focused ahead, he didn't realise he was about to collide with someone until he happened. His drink splashed onto the ground - leaving his full glass now half-empty, and he almost slipped in the liquid as a response. Through some arm spinning and weird leg slipping, he managed to remain on his feet, although now his cheeks were red hot with embarrassment. "I'm so sorry!" He exclaimed, looking up for the first time to stare at the girls dark blue eyes.

Zoe wasn't the kind to spend every weekend at the bar, but she wasn't new to the scene either. Usually she just came to unwind, to relax and hang out with Andrew or one of her friends. Tonight she was here for a very different reason. Zoe wasn't normally the type to turn to alcohol with her problems, but she just hadn't been able to escape the memories of her last breakup. Ray had really hurt her, and she was just trying to pull herself out of this little hole. So she'd gotten a friend to come with her to the bar, deciding to stay even when her friend left to go get dinner with her boyfriend. She'd invited Zoe, but that was the last thing Zoe needed. Instead she sat at the bar, sipping her newest drink. She wasn't even sure what she got, but it tasted alright and she was starting to feel herself get a bit buzzed. Good. That's all she needed right now. Just something to let her have a little fun for once. She kept her eyes on the DJ, watching him do what he clearly enjoyed doing. Maybe Andrew should be a DJ. Hah. Her brother didn't exactly have hobbies like that. He didn't have the personality to get up in front of a crowd. She knew her brother preferred his alone time, and suddenly the liquid sliding down her throat tasted a little more bitter than it had before. If Andrew was here, he'd probably drag her back to her apartment. Good thing he was gone for the weekend. With a sigh, Zoe got to her feet and took another sip from her drink. She wasn't exactly sure where she was going, but she wanted to move around a bit. Sitting at the bar was getting boring. Her glass was almost empty at this point, so when she suddenly felt another body collide with hers, it didn't even come close to spilling out of her cup. She regained her balance, grabbing on to whoever had run into her. She looked up, prepared to snap at whoever had spilled his drink on the floor (and her shoes - luckily it hadn't covered her shirt or pants), but then she saw how red his face was and something inside of her suddenly felt a bit bad. Maybe he was just as lost as she was at this point. "Don't, uh, worry about it," she said, slightly distracted. She'd had guys flirting with her throughout the night (which only worsened her already negative mood), but there was just something about this guy that made her not want to roll her eyes and push past him like she'd done with many of the other guys she'd interacted with tonight. Instead, she looked down at her almost empty cup and finished the liquid inside. "Buy me a drink and we'll call it even?" she suggested. aether

Hendrix looked to be the epitome of contrite, he was just glad that her clothes weren't wet. His shoes and the bottom of his jeans were all splashed, but he didn't care so much, because that was him and he wasn't a complete stranger. Gulping, he felt as though his cheeks were about to burst into flame, and he tilted his head as he rubbed the back of his neck. "Sorry, I'm just clumsy," he tried to laugh it off. But at her suggestion of buying her a drink, he nodded his head, "Oh yeah - good idea, what's your poison?" He stepped aside and closer to the bar, he glanced down at his half empty cup and decided that while he was back at the bar he may as well get himself another glass, so he quickly drank what he had remaining and placed the cup down. He glanced at the bartender - who was currently serving some very sloppily drunk girl wearing a pink 'Just turned 21' sash, and he figured he'd have to wait his turn.
He tapped his feet on the ground and stood quietly, awkwardly, while they waited. The music pumped behind them, the floor vibrated with dancing feet, and yet he felt as though every word of the English language had suddenly escaped him. He didn't know what to say. He avoided her gaze in fear of making silent, uncomfortable eye contact but after a minute of that he felt like avoiding contact at all stakes was more embarrassing than trying to strike up some conversation and seem like a normal, regular human being. He could hear his friend shouting at him, 'you are about to buy some cute girl a drink! Talk to her before you miss your chance!'.
"So, uh... you from around here?" His gaze finally lifted, caught sight of her blue eyes. She had pretty eyes. He didn't know why he'd been avoiding them for so long...

This isn't the first time that someone's collided with her at the bar. Zoe was just glad that her shoes were the only thing that took the impact. The last thing she wanted was to walk around with wet clothes. That had happened before. It wasn't fun and she'd very much prefer to stay dry. She was also glad that she hadn't lost anything from her cup. She had both her hands wrapped around it, taking small sips as if she were trying to make it last longer. In a way, she was. When he said he was clumsy, she raised an eyebrow. "Clumsy, huh? I think you were distracted. You don't look drunk. But by what? A cute girl maybe?" she asked, a smirk on her lips. She then told him the name of her drink. She was already buzzed and probably should head home... But how can she turn down a free drink? To be honest, she was surprised that this guy had agreed to buying her a drink. After all, his drink had only gotten her shoes wet. If anything, he was the one that suffered more from the embarrassment of walking into someone. She followed him to the bar and took a seat, rolling her eyes at the girl that was currently occupying the bartender. Oh, that had definitely been her on her 21st birthday. She and a few friends had hit up all the local bars and she knew Andrew had come along to make sure she was alright, even if he had tried to hide among the crowds. It was awkward, she realized. They say there without saying anything. He seemed to be avoiding eye contact. So Zoe jumped a bit when he asked a question. "Maybe we should start with names?" she suggested. Wow it was weird making small talk with a stranger. She was just happy to be with someone again. The bartender had kept glancing over her when she was drinking alone. It had probably looked pretty sad. "I'm Zoe. And, yeah. I live here. I'm a college student," she said. aether

Hendrix could have laughed when she suggested he was watching a cute girl. He didn't correct her, because, well, he didn't really know what to say. But he definitely had not been checking out a cute girl. Petunia was a rascal, and now he knew she was somewhere in this club probably running a muck. He did remind himself that his sister was a twenty year old woman who could fend for herself. He knew that if their roles had been reversed, his sister would have had a word with him though. She was so protective and assertive.
He had surprised even himself when he spoke, and he swallowed nervously. He nodded at her suggestion and smiled sheepishly, letting out a soft "Sure," which she probably would have missed over the sound of the music. He listened intently for her name, seemingly genuinely interested. He wasn't like those other guys who slung themselves over the bar table and just said what girls wanted to hear until they could take them home. Hendrix was more real than that, more emotionally minded than that. "Zoe, huh? That's a cute name," he smiled shyly a her, his eyes crinkling, "My name is Hendrix, I'm from around here too," he held out his hand for a good ol' fashioned handshake. He doesn't really know how to interact with someone new... poor, awkward, Hen.
The bartender finally finished with the girl who was now walking away while simultaneously spilling the new drinks she'd just purchased, so Hendrix placed an order for another cider and a drink for Zoe. "I go to college too," he added as he turned his attention back to Zoe, feeling a little more confident now that a conversation had started, "what are you studying?" He tilted his head, and a brown curl fell onto his forehead. His tousled curls needed to be cut...

Zoe knew that Andrew wouldn't be happy she was here. Her brother was very protective of her, and for a moment she almost wished her brother was here. He'd keep her out of trouble after her friend ditched her. Then she glanced over at Hendrix with a small smile and the feeling went away. If Andrew was here, he wouldn't let Zoe talk to a guy. Especially a guy that Zoe was just now noticing was actually pretty cute. She wasn't normally the type to flirt with others she met at a bar, but even she noticed that she was sitting up a bit straighter after the thought crossed her mind. Of course, she reminded herself not to get too excited. He could have a girlfriend. Even as she reminded herself not to get excited, there was something pulling her towards this guy. She could blame it on the alcohol that she'd already consumed, but she knew it was the genuine interest in his face as she talked. She'd already had a few guys flirt with her, sit down and talk or offer to buy her a drink. It was easy to tell within the first few seconds what they were really interested in. Not her, but going home with her. She didn't see that with him, so he was either different or better than these other guys at hiding it. When he said she had a cute name, she found herself shrugging. It was an okay name, but did anyone truly love their name? "Hendrix, huh? That's a little unique," she said. She'd never heard of someone named Hendrix, but she liked it. It was unique. Different. It set him apart from others. When he held his hand out, a small laugh escaped her, but she shook it. "Nice to meet you, Hendrix." "Journalism," she replied right away. It had seemed like an odd choice for Zoe, but the truth was that she hadn't gone to college with anything specifically she wanted to do. She was really enjoying some of her classes. "What about you?" she asked, assuming he went to the same school as her. The bartender returned with the drinks that he'd ordered for them, so Zoe took hers and had a sip. She tasted it for a moment before speaking. "Perfect. I forgive you for running into me now." There was a teasing tone in her voice because she'd never truly blamed him. The drink was a little stronger than the one she'd had before it, but it was good. aether

Hendrix raised a hand and rubbed the back of his neck, letting out a little laugh, "Yeah, you can imagine my dad was a huge Jimi Hendrix fan, that's why I ended up with my name," he stated after their little handshake. "Although, I'm not really into his music, oops," he added humorously. He could feel himself warming up now, could feel the nerves start to ease out of his body. It had been the prospect of conversation, the idea of starting a conversation with a beautiful girl, and the fact that he'd stupidly run into her that had made him feel so painstakingly awkward. He was feeling better now, a little more human. Although his perpetual shyness was still evident through the way he struggled to maintain eye contact and the way he fidgeted his feet.
Like Zoe, Hendrix assumed she attended the same college as he. There was not a soul in this town that didn't know that the two colleges were extreme rivals, who went to immature lengths to prove it. Hendrix wasn't one to partake in such things, he didn't mind the people in the other college - he believed people should just study wherever they wanted to study. But Petunia was a fiery supporter of Glendale college, and a proud hater of *Zoes* college. So, when Zoe stated she studied journalism, Hendrix just nodded with interest and sipped at his bubbly cider as the bartender handed it over. "I'm studying Computer Science, but I'm also heavily involved in the track team. I love it," he replied. It was easy to tell through his lean muscles. He wasn't the kind of guy who had muscles upon muscles, but it was obvious he was an athlete. "What made you do journalism?" He asked, then gave himself a mental pat on the back for keeping up some nice casual conversation. This was quite the achievement.

Zoe smiled a bit at the story. "I've never heard his music, so I can agree with you or your dad," she said a bit awkwardly. While she didn't seem quite as shy as Hendrix, she clearly wasn't the most social person either. "My name isn't, uh, important. I think my dad said he heard it on the news and really really liked it so he told my mom that if they had a daughter he wanted to name her Zoe. They ended up having one," she said. Yeah, she wasn't the most social. She was quickly relaxing around this guy, letting her guard down a bit as she sipped from her drink. Her blue eyes scanned their surroundings, keeping an eye out as she held a conversation with Hendrix. Zoe didn't understand the rivalry between the two schools, but that didn't stop her from jumping in with the hate. She didn't hate the other school, but sometimes it was more fun to go to football or basketball games against them and join in with the cheers and boos hurled between the two sides. That, or Andrew and her friends would drag her to any events that were meant to breed hate against their rivals. This bar was situated somewhere between the two schools, but it never really crossed Zoe's mind that she could have interacted with the other students. She'd even considered wearing her comfortable school hoodie to the bar until her friend said that wouldn't be a good idea and dressed her in something a little less warm and a little more 'bar-like'. "Computer science, huh? That sounds like a decent thing." At the mention of track, she smiled a bit. "I don't do track, but I love running. I'm just not much of a school sport kind of girl," she said with a small laugh, taking another long drink. At his question, she shrugged. "I went to school with no clue what to do. One of my friends recommended journalism so I did it and it's actually not bad," she said with a little bit of a shrug. aether

Hendrix shrugged and smiled downwards when she said she couldn't agree with either him or his father. He did mumble, too quietly for her to hear, "Well, I'm definitely right but that's my opinion..." Then he looked back up as she talked about her naming experience which, to be frank, sounded just like the same story for most people. To be fair, Hendrix wasn't too great at naming things either. He once had a pet cat named Kat.
He nodded, his interest perking now that computer science was thrown into the mix. If Petunia were standing beside him, she would have knocked him over the head and reminded him for the 100th time that computer science doesn't pick up chicks, it scares them away. But other than his brain and his love for running there wasn't much else Hendrix considered that he had going for himself. "Oh yeah, it's great fun. And school sports can be pretty intimidating because of the competitive spirit of it all, but it's always been a passion of mine," he realised now that he was talking a bit too much about himself. Petunia always said that when talking to a girl, ask them lots of questions to sound like you are interested. Which, since he was talking to a beautiful girl, he felt like he could be pretty interested... He wasn't too good at flirting though... "Well journalism is cool - bet you never run out of interesting things in that." He didn't know if that was accurate of not but he didn't really know what else to say. "So, uh, what brings you here? To this bar?" He asked as he took a sip of his drink. As he looked at her blue eyes, he wondered what kind of person this Zoe was. So far he assumed she was a very nice person since she was talking to him and hadn't already just turned and walked away, and from what he'd learned so far, she was also quite easy going.

The naming thing seemed to be winding down, so Zoe didn't say anymore on the subject. Instead, she took a sip of her drink, raising her eyes up slightly to look at Hendrix when he began speaking again. She actually was a little interested in hearing about what he was studying. She'd never really talked to anyone that was into computer science before, so it would definitely be interesting to see what went into it and what he thought about it. Well, he most likely liked it if that's what he was studying, but when she began studying journalism, Zoe wouldn't have exactly said at the time that she liked it. "Well, I'm glad you enjoy the track team. I was on it in high school. Freshman and maybe sophomore year, I don't remember. But then I realized that it wasn't as much fun. I preferred just running on my own and so that's what I do," she explained. Zoe didn't have much experience with flirting either. Of course, she blamed that on the fact that not many guys in high school had caught her eye. She hadn't started actually dating until college and it had mostly been guys flirting with her instead of her flirting with them. But something about Hendrix made relax a little bit and she actually enjoyed the conversation they were having, even if they both seemed to be a bit awkward. "Journalism is alright. Better than some options," she said with a shrug. At his next question, she gave a little one shouldered shrug and sipped from her drink again, surprised at how much of it she'd already drank since he'd bought it for her. "Breakup," she said. "Y'know, just wanted to get out of my apartment and forget about him," she said, giving him a bit of a weak smile. aether

Hendrix listened to her little story about doing track in freshman and sophomore years and he nodded to express his interest in the conversation. He could understand her preference for running along rather than on a team, because sometimes the competitive environment could take some out of the fun of a sport. But it was what kept Hendrix on racing. That moment when he crosses the finish line and can finally glance over his shoulder, see everyone racing behind him. It was unlike anything else in the world. He could feel little butterflies starting to spread their wings in his stomach as the conversation continued and he felt his cheeks turn a little pink in response. It had been quite a long while since he'd talked to such a beautiful girl, a girl who didn't just automatically turn away from him. So having Zoe in front of him, returning the conversation with little stories of her own, and not turning and leaving was... nice.
When she stated that the reason she was there that night was because of a break-up, he tilted his head. Why anyone would break up with such a lovely girl like her, he had no idea. Although, if she had broken up with him - that was something else. "Well, maybe I could, uh," he started to stammer nervously, "uh, help you? Did you like to dance?" It would come as no surprise that this track running, computer science-ing, awkward flirting man had two left feet when it came to dancing. But he figured that hopefully, hopefully, she might be able to see the endearing side of it. Or at least, he'd give her a good laugh, and her mind could stray from the recent breakup for at least a short while.

Zoe was competitive, but preferred to do her own running. It was what allowed her to relax, something that she enjoyed. But she could see how it was something that other people could like and she was glad that Hendrix had something that made her happy. She continues to sip from her drink, frowning when she saw that the glass was almost empty. She finished it up and set it on the bar, feeling a warm feeling throughout her body as she smiled. She felt as though she was first now getting her first good look at Hendrix, and he was a cutie. Even she couldn't deny that. When Hendrix offered to help her, to bring her out on the dance floor, she smiled. She normally may not agree to go dancing with a stranger, but she was more open and outgoing than usual. She stood up and smiled, grabbing Hendrix's hand. "Well, lets go dancing," she said with a grin. Maybe they could dance for a bit and then return to the bar and share one or two drinks before heading their separate ways for the night. The dance floor was brightly lit and loud, and it was hard to find a spot where they weren't pressed up against a hundred other sweaty bodies. But she truly smiled for the first time that night as she took Hendrix's hand and started dancing. aether

Getting onto the dance floor was something that Hendrix never did. So the fact that he was doing so willingly, albeit nervously, was probably quite mind-blowing to someone who knew him. But he gave a grin in return to Zoe's, he moved to a little spot where there were many people, but he was able to subtly push his way in and make a little space. He started to move, not really knowing how to move, but winging it. He didn't really know whether to touch her, or to just dance with her but next to her. He glanced around to see what other people tended to do and the options were mixed. So, he looked at Zoe, and he grinned again, "I'm not really a good dancer, got any hints or tips?" He asked light-heartedly. He wasn't usually one for the compact, hot bodies or the pumping, loud music but having someone there to do it with was... new and... fun.

Once they got a little spot on the dance floor for just the two of them, Zoe turned to Hendrix with a grin. "I'm not either!" she replied, talking a bit louder to be heard over the music and other voices, but still quiet enough that only Hendrix would be able to hear her unless the other people around them were listening and concentrating on their conversation but she doubted that. She thought for a second, but couldn't think of any tips except for one. "Just have fun!" It was a rare sight to see Zoe on the dance floor, so open and bubbly, but she was beginning to look like she'd had a little too much to drink. She took Hendrix's hand and looked around at the people around them. Some people were just dancing next to their companions while others were pressed up against each other. She let go of his hand and smiled as she began to dance. (Okay I know nothing about dancing so pretend Zoe isn't making a total fool of herself XD) aether

Hendrix had to admit, his cheeks were red with shyness as Zoe took his hand in hers. Momentarily, he was glad his friend had practically begged him to come along and watch him DJ, even though Hendrix wasn't doing much spectating as his friend played - this fascinating girl had captured his attention. His hand was left cold when she let it go but it was only a moment after that she was dancing, as was he. He felt clumsy as he moved his arms with the music, swayed his hips a little too, and jumped enthusiastically to the beat. These were all moves that he copied from the people around them, so he figured it was 'cool' and 'hip'. You'd almost think he was an old man since he was so clueless. "I don't dance - but this is fun!" He shouted over the music. The more he moved, the more confident he became. He realized no one was watching him dance and that Zoe didn't care if he was kind of bad at it either. He offered his hand to her with the intention of spinning her around on the spot, "I'll twirl you!" His shy grin was turning into something more goofy and carefree.
( yayyy i did it) .
