since this won my interest check poll I'm making a planning page for it. tldr, pineclan is a clan set in an abandoned mall that is in the process of breaking down from the interest check page: "formerly a very religious clan, their original woodland home was destroyed, prompting them to journey far and wide to find a new home. eventually, they came across an abandoned mall, and decided it was sent to them as a gift from starclan as it was marked with a pine on the front sign. but it turns out, of course, it wasn't- this is just the pinewood mall, a very old and dilapidated mall that's constantly in danger of falling apart and supplies not much food. now, years after they came here, with only the oldest elders ever remembering a life outside the mall or a starclan at all (given they were practically exiled from the clan after this), some begin to wonder if they should leave again or not..."
here's what I have written up so far in addition to my characters-
The mall was closed in 1994, the Clan moved into the mall in 2002, and the roleplay itself takes place in the present day (2018). The leader is Runningstar, a gray spotted tabby molly. She is young, for a leader, but running out of lives very quickly due to her impulsivity, and is worried about how she will spend the last two lives she has left (especially given her leader and mentor Concretestar lived for many, many moons and left a strong impact on the Clan).
You can see this is still a big WIP but here it is anyway, so if anyone has ideas for this thing just hmu

Ohh I really like the idea of a clan in a twoleg structure. I'd be interested in helping out if you'd like.

This is a bit like one of my clans, with a similar concept of being in an abandoned building. I will help when I can!

update: came up with some very rough ideas
-clan camp possibly could be in a food court in the lowest level. pineclan could be forced to move if the food court collapsed, potentially. -starclan could possibly be thought of as malevolent cats who turned their back on the clan, with clan lore being about how deceiving they are. some of the plot could revolve around pineclan realizing the stars aren't responsible for their own losses. -the leader (runningstar) is young but on her last two lives. two cats could arise as wanting to be deputy- one thinking pineclan should stay, the other thinking pineclan should leave- and that could have plot potential -pineclan might be more willing to accept loners and rogues because not many of them are inside the mall. -potentially the mall lot could be part of territory? hmm. -medicine cat only restricted to a few herbs in a garden in the mall's center, leaving them only able to do certain things

history, maybe? PineClan: A History
PineClan originally was in a small, wooded forest just by a highway. The story of exactly how PineClan was founded is murky, and the story changes every time it is told, but overall the gist is the same: A hardworking molly, only known as Dappled (her suffix has been lost to history) is exiled wrongly by her old Clan. With the stubbornness of a boulder, she traveled far, and brought cats to the Thunder Valley- that small pine forest just by the highway- where PineClan was founded. Dappled’s personality varies: some remember her as a clever trickster, to others she was wiser than an owl. So does her coat coloring- although usually she is depicted as either a tortoiseshell or a spotted tabby. But her Clan, albeit much different than it was, remains. Thunder Valley was eventually destroyed to make room for Twoleg nests. This killed off many cats before the leader at the time, Antstar, decided PineClan had to leave everything it knew behind. The Clan, once so devout to its afterlife, began to wonder- why would StarClan do this to them? The journey along the highway to a new home took generations. Antstar died when he was hit by a car on this journey, and soon his granddaughter and deputy Oakstar took his place. She was the one who found the mall, insisting it was sent by StarClan because of the pines on the mall’s front sign. She was obsessed with the afterlife, perhaps because much of her family had died on the Journey, and slowly became more and more detached from reality as she got older. She eventually had to be forced out of leadership by her deputy, Squirrelfang. Oakstar died soon after from ironically being crushed by falling mall debris. Squirrelstar lived only a short while, compared to his predecessors, but brought his Clan to reform by teaching them how to live in the mall. He was also the leader that effectively all but banished StarClan- he wasn’t as religious as Oakstar, but he still held StarClan accountable for the situation at hand. He was killed abruptly by an illness, slowly sucking away one life after another- the last believers of StarClan wondered if it was fate. Nine lives were now solely gotten from the medicine cat reciting an ancient spell- StarClan’s role in the matter had effectively faded. Concretestar was the leader after Squirrelstar- the first leader to have never lived outside of the mall. PineClan was thriving under him- he was gruff, and rough around the edges, but fatherly- some referred to him as “everyone’s father”. Concretestar’s main flaw was his unwillingness to change- it was under him that discussions of leaving the mall began, but he never listened- not even as the mold and debris claimed one cat after another. He passed on leadership to Runningstar, and thus we reach the time of our story… Also related to that: Medicine cats now have sole power of wanting nine lives through an ancient ritual instead of having StarClan decide. (Originally, the ritual was just for transferring leadership, but since StarClan disappeared the ritual also gives the nine lives).

and that second to last thing sounds like it could work, and maybe different families of cats could live in a different part of the mall if you do decide to make a part of the territory.Ex:(Random name)and his family live in the food court on the second lowest floor.

That could make sense. The Clan just has to be united enough, and mainly clustered in a certain area- since the food court would have several areas, maybe certain families could live in certain areas? PineClan is pretty family-based, especially looking at how most leaders become leaders because their predecessors were their parents or their mentors

they'd probably be more widespread if it wasn't for how dangerous the abandoned mall can be, given it is falling apart

Maybe a small group of hidden cats could be deep within the south side, having been almost silent and light on their feet. Could be interesting.

I like the idea of there being limits put on the medicine cats. That would force the clan to really focus on being safe as well as giving the medicine cats more opportunities to leave the area. I could see there being a monthly journey where they spend a couple days entering the forests to collect herbs.

Another medicine cat idea: I have the idea that before the roleplay starts, there's a villain medicine cat, Dustfang. Dustfang intends on manipulating his brother Webwhisker into letting Dustfang give him nine lives so Dustfang can use him as a puppet- after all, Dustfang is very focused on his legacy and what impact he can make (thus explaining why his apprentice could be the medicine cat by the role play's start). However, it never comes to fruition- Dustfang dies of a mold infection, and Webwhisker never tells anyone about the abuse he suffered at Dustfang's paws- with Dustfang only being remembered as a kind, if secretive and strangely overthinking, medicine cat by the start of the roleplay. Maybe he could have managed to give himself nine lives and didn't actually die? Maybe he could have manipulated his apprentice into finishing his work? I don't know it's a concept

That could be interesting! Maybe we should think of some limits to place on medicine cats so they can't give everyone nine lives. Like, it's limited to a few cats.

That could make sense. Like maybe it's the same eight extra lives being added via some reincarnation-like method? So if the nine lives ritual is attempted when the leader still has three lives, the cat would only get five lives, or something similar. Perhaps Dustfang was partially responsible for Runningstar losing lives so quickly?

Oh, that would be an interesting plot twist. Oh, I had a question. If the clan doesn't follow Starclan, do you have any ideas for the Dark Forest? Also, for cats who die are you planning on having them continue to have a roll in the rp like a Starclan cat would, or not?

I think the Dark forest kind of stopped existing (at least in the Clan cats' minds) after they decided StarClan was villainous and had turned on them. For cats who die... they'll probably be added as a 'spirit' (maybe a barely-tangible shapeshifting thing) but not really have a direct 'place' like StarClan unless the Clan reunites with StarClan. And if the clan reunites with StarClan, then the Dark Forest will also rise again

Ok! So with the clan living in a two leg structure are you thinking that they will interact with humans a lot more? I could see teenagers coming in often to spray paint the structure and other things.

I think other than occasional vandals or those people who visit dead male for fun the place would mostly remain empty. Rogues, rats, and some birds I could see also being in there, but not much else. However, since the mall is probably surrounded by roads and other (still operational) stores, if the Clan moved there would be a lot of human interaction.

concept: maybe starclan cats that died before squirrelstar renounced starclan are not reachable, but cats that died after are reachable as shapeshifting, barely-visible spirits in dreams. so there is a concept of an "afterlife" but no starclan, and starclan isn't really seen as belonging to pineclan anymore because pineclan doesn't want to admit its own flaws as previously established

Alright, sounds good. I like the idea of the spirits that wander tbh. What other sort of predators are you thinking? Probably not a ton of animal ones cause they are by humans.

I think potential dangers would mostly be caused by -rats (which are a source of prey but can still easily attack) -mold infections -falling debris -starvation -frequent illness, infection, childbirth deaths due to the medicine cat only having a few select herbs -inhalation of dust/plaster/drywall/other nasty stuff -falling off a story into another
Most of these dangers are caused by the environment, but still PineClan, stubborn as it is, refuses to leave because they think the outside world is worse.
