In my opinion, I think The Prophecies Begin is the best arc of the Warriors series. To me it seems like it was better paced, had a better story-line, and more relatable characters.
From The New Prophecy onward (excluding Dawn of the Clans), I personally think that the series kind of lost its appeal to me. Sure, I do love some characters from these arcs, however they just seem to be lacking. Perhaps it's personal bias or nostalgia, but I much prefer to re-read TPB and the related Super Editions compared to the other arcs.
What are your opinions on the first arc?

It really knows what it's doing far more than any other arc does. It has a very strong, consistent set of morals--- trust, loyalty, faith, etc. It succeeds in nearly everything it attempts and it's extremely potent at achieving high levels of feels not just at its high points but even during its many calms before the storm, such as Firestar's leader ceremony.
Ultimately the reason I still feel Dawn of the Clans is a better arc is because of its depth of character. Firestar is an amazingly compelling protagonist... but Gray Wing's just a bit better, and his fellow POVs manage to give a fuller appreciation of the entire pre-Clan world, instead of focusing on just ThunderClan.

Yeah, I agree with you there Fernstep. DotC and TPB are the best Warriors arcs that the Erins have written. The arcs had so much more story elements and knew how to hit you in the feels, like how the clans begin and how the warrior code wasn't constantly being broken.

Dawn of the clans was really awesome. I really started to like all of the new characters. Gray Wing and Clear Sky were just so interesting. Their characters were not so straight forward and I really liked the development of them throughout the books.
The first series really was what brought me in. The story was just so intriguing and I loved the development of Firepaw/heart/star. I think if I would change anything is I would revamp the ending to The New Prophecy a little bit (maybe make it more fast paced) and reduce the other series. I think it just dragged on in Omen of the Stars.

I agree! I think The Prophecy Begins was the best arc. The characters are developed well, the pacing is top-notch, and the plot is actually executed. What bothers me about later arcs is the discrepancy between many books, with the character arcs being shuffled around wildly, plots extending only so far, and villains that only stick around for a little bit. The Prophecy Begins was always centered around Firestar's rise to stardom and defeating Tigerstar. There was a very clear-cut goal that began in book one and ended in book six and while there was certainly filler in between, even that meshed well with the central plot line. A Vision Of Shadows, in particular, annoys me because it seems to be wandering about aimlessly. I mean, what are we working towards? SkyClan made it to the lake. Are we just going to have pointless squabble while they settle in? And who is our antagonist after book three? Anybody? No. And that's a big problem. We have Sleekwhisker showing up for a short scrap, but she is very one-dimensional in River of Fire to me. And read like filler. Though I was still glad to see some big bad, least our characters face another natural disaster . . .

Sundance, I agree. The series felt complete after Shattered Sky.
