Let's rewind, when we still didn't know Darktail was the forbidden son of Onestar and look at some of the theories you had for this villain. Personally, for me, I feel like Darktail's backstory is rather cliche. Seeing this kind of backstory before with parents abandoning; Sol, Tigerstar, Brokenstar, Hawkfrost etc.
So what were your theories of what he was, before Shattered Sky? And if you could change Darktail's backstory to anything, what would it be?

A few months ago? Dude, we've known this for a year.

I actually just took him at face value of being Some Rogue before Shattered Sky.

I thought he was descendant of Bloodclan, or even Scourge. It would make a lot of sense for him to hate the Clans know their techniques then. Not to mention that Bloodclan is it I believe the only villain that has not appeared more than once in the main series. And Darktail would have given more reason for their appearance, considering the reason they appeared was wasn't that great. They appeared mainly so that Firestar and Tigerstar I would not have a drawing out conflict. But there's ways to do that conflict without drawing it out.

I thought he was a random rogue. But if I could think about what I would prefer or what would make more sense is if he were related to Scourge or even the son of Blackstar (since he was a rogue when he was driven out of ShadowClan in the first series)

Sol's son. His methods were so similar at first. I'm obviously a bit biased as I love Sol, but I think the idea of Sol passing his hatred of the Clans onto his son makes a lot more sense than ret-conning Onestar, of all cats (he was a loyal and respectable warrior), to have had a relationship with some rogue and she was the one who made Darktail hate the Clans... Why do we need to make a new character (who adds nothing to the plot and makes everything a bit more confusing) when we can remind everyone of an old, good character? -- and then Sol could even have come back and had a more satisfying redemption. I also like the idea of Sol sending Darktail to try and continue Sol's "legacy", if you will, but that Darktail took it too far and became crazier and more violent than Sol ever was. Even though Onestar did become a jerk in OotS and AVoS, there was no need to taint Onewhisker's personality. It would have been so much better for Sol to have been behind it all again. Tigerstar got his second chance, so why can't Sol? Besides maybe Scourge, they're the two best villains in the series. I don't know, maybe this is too predictable, Jaysnow , but it's a whole lot better in my mind than making up a random rogue to be the cause of all this. And I don't care that Onestar got a guilty moment.

I know we aren't being realistic with this being Warriors and all, but I figured that Sol couldn't have any offspring because he was a male calico? Or something along those lines. That's what I figured, anyway. Tossing that aside, Darktail is a lot like Sol. Sol could have mentored him, or raised him instead? That would make sense and be a crazy twist.

I personally don't mind what we got in canon.

That doesn't seem to matter in this series, since the Erins actually know very little about how cat genetics work. Redtail himself is Sandstorm's father despite also being described as a tortoiseshell (although he could actually be a chimera).

It's nice that Sandstorm had a dad but at the same time, that definitely adds confusion to how that happened. Oh erins messing stuff up from the beginning lol
