Squirrelflight and Bramblestar are a popular topic these days, so I might as well ask a question I've wondered for quite a while now and I'm not sure I have an answer myself. Thoughts?

I'd see him as being furious at StarClan (especially Yellowfang) for forcing Squirrelflight to lie to him and the Clan.

I hope he would be furious, and rightfully so. I think it'd almost certainly help him understand why Squirrelflight lied -- especially if he found out Feathertail was in on it. Actually, Feathertail was only one of the cats that convinced Squirrelflight to help Leafpool. It makes sense too, Feathertail is Squirrelflight's friend and she was in love with Crowfeather, but she also wanted the kits to have a good life, not just for the sake of the prophecy, like Yellowfang. Especially considering she herself is Half-Clan. Also, there are no implications that Feather was even aware of the lie Yellowfang told Squirrelflight. Originally the prophecy was supposed to be discussed between ThunderClan cats only anyways; Bluestar, Lionheart, and Yellowfang, Feathertail was an unexpected addition honestly, cause in OotS, Yellowfang gets on her case for showing up again. On top of that, Yellowfang, when she told Squirrelflight she was barren, was alone with her and Leafpool. So it could have been a last-ditch lie she came up with on her own to try and force Squirrelflight to cover for Leafpool's mistakes. (Its funny cause if Leafpool just hadn't run off with Crow, this all could have been avoided, and the Three would have been SquirrelBramble kits.) |

Oh, I know, but Feathertail was the one pretty much closest to Squirrelflight among those who wanted her to take on the kits. Regardless of whether she knew the lie or not (I also don't think she did, but again, we don't know; the timing was convenient for her appearance, and the novella, then followup PO3 and OOTS made tons of characters OOC), Feathertail still asked Squirrelflight to do it. The way the conversation went when Squirrelflight made her decision, I always thought it implies that Feathertail was a huge part of why she agreed. Squirrelflight has a big heart and loved Feathertail...so I imagine Feathertail was a big factor. If Bramblestar knew that Feathertail specifically was one of the cats who asked, it might help him understand better, than if he just knew about Yellowfang/the others because of how close the bond between the journeying cats was. |
