> Born blind
> Forced to be a medicine cat
> Dealt with prophecy mess
> Can't be with the cat he loves until he dies
> Had to put up with Leafpool and Alderheart, along with other things.
> Also his sister is dead
> His half-brother tried to murder him.
> And his dad is an *******.
I don't know, I don't hate him, or dislike even, but I'm neutral. I tolerate him, considering he has plenty of reasons to be grumpy.

He's too grumpy. People who are born blind aren't mad about it. We feel bad for them maybe, but they don't know anything else. If you listen to interviews with blind people, some of them don't even want to be able to see. And no one was ever mean to Jayfeather about being blind, he was just overly touchy about it because he's overly self conscious and displaces his self esteem issues on other people. Someone should really call him out on that, but the whole clan just enables his poor behavior.

Considering his entire career option since Hollypaw was Leafpool’s apprentice at the time, involved the need for sight, he had every right to be angry. (Not enough to yell at Brightheart but still.) Considering it was likely Firestar would have given him meager “helping jobs or he would be casted off to the Elder’s Den like Longtail,” his choices in life were very minimal and weak, at said starting point.

As you say not enough right to be so angry as to yell at Brightheart for no reason and never apologize. Sure some things in his life have been hard, but he's mean with or without them

There's a difference between being grumpy and just being a complete jerk and almost abusive level antagonizer. The way he treated Alderheart and Twigbranch early in AVOS made me angry. This was borderline nasty.
I don't care what you've been through. It gives you absolutely no right to be a jerk to others and project your personal issues onto others who don't deserve to be lashed out at.

Part of me feels like the Erins don't bother with developing "grumpy" characters anymore.
Yellowfang, after her death, became the StarClan jerkface.
Crowfeather, who used to be interesting, is the jerkface of WindClan now.
And now Jayfeather is becoming the TC jerkface.
Who's next?

He's past grumpy and just plain abusive. Alderheart was terrified of him. Sure, you can say he was scared of a lot of things, but it was to a far worse degree when he was apprenticed to Jayfeather. He was so scared of getting stuff wrong because he knew Jayfeather would yell at him (and Alderheart's a friggen apprentice. Of course he's going to get stuff wrong. Jesus Christ), which, by the way, I don't recall anyone doing to Jayfeather while he was learning, unless he was being deliberately surly and other cats got impatient. Otherwise, they said nothing, and if he was reprimanded, it was "gently" or whatever. This was with Alderheart trying his best and being receptive, so it's not like he was being deliberately obtuse like Jayfeather did sometimes when he was annoyed with Leafpool. I don't know anyone with Alderheart's sort of personality who learned from being yelled at, but go off, I guess. The same with Twigbranch, who was one day upset and wanted to talk to Alderheart, but she didn't dare approach, because he was standing beside Jayfeather. He didn't have to be so mean while she was in the medicine cat den; she wasn't doing any harm, like playing with a leaf or hanging with Briarlight. He complained so much that her denmates didn't want to play with her, referencing how Jayfeather had called her annoying/loud/something along those lines. I get that she was coddled, and I did want someone to set her straight, but not like that.
He's just straight up mean. Being blind is not an excuse, and I don't care for his reasons anymore.

This became apparent to Jaykit after he fell after being attacked by fox cubs.

I can see both sides, I guess...?
Being born blind, everyone around him just assumes he'll not be a warrior. They give him a chance though, and he gets frustrated because what kid DOESN'T get frustrated...? Doesn't excuse yelling at Brightheart, but still, he's just a kid who wanted to go against everyone's expectations.
