I was actually neutral, but then I talked to someone here, and they pointed out that it was pretty abruptly codependent, or at least it was on her side. Her feelings aren't exactly healthy. She was practically terrified out of her mind every time she saw Leafstar talking to Tree, because she knew Leafstar was getting impatient with him just taking Clan resources and not doing anything. Many of Violetshine's "He might leave" thoughts and feelings had an addition "...might leave me" to them. i do know some spoilers, but i am only on chapter 4 ish...? i think?

It's fine on its own, and Tree actually feels like his own character. But when considering the events of DN, it feels really inconsistent. Violetshine goes from finding him annoying to being fond of him. There's no transition, and I suspect DN being written by Kate and RoF being written by Cherith may have something to do with it.
But even when looking at it in RoF alone, it still feels a little unhealthy. I made a thread about this awhile ago, but Violetshine mentions at one point how she wouldn't be surprised if Tree left her, since everyone else (except Hawkwing) already has. Furthermore, there are many times where she panics about Leafstar kicking Tree out any time she speaks to him. So, perhaps the reason Violetshine is falling for him has more to do with wanting to form attachments in general, and possibly also because of their shared friendship with Needletail. It just seems pretty codependent, or at least on Violetshine's part anyway.
Had this pairing at least been more consistent, maybe I'd like it more.

I thought your post meant you'd finished it when you said you'd only just gotten ROF ;p rip me Basically what you read in her first chapter of the whole book (it's the third one overall, I think? I can't remember when she gets her first POV in that one) just kinda sets the tone for the whole book regarding her feelings toward him. I'm not sure if it's much of a spoiler, so I won't get into detail on actual events.

I loved it's first moments in Darkest Night, and found them to be adorable and hilarious together. But then River of Fire came out, and all those qualities were gone. I expected Tree to be that type of guy to continuously flirt with the girl just to mess with her, but I was disappointed when he wasn't. I also liked it at first because it seemed like it was going to be developed but all that was dropped in favor of rushing into it. So I don't really care for these two now.

Or maybe Violetshine is a tsundere lol. I don't mind her becoming fond of Tree and the two of them getting closer. Personally I think this pairing is more mature and likable than other certain pairings in the series rn. UGh.
