With all respect, can I ask why Dovewing is loved by many? I'm a Dovewing hater (which is pretty obvious, I guess) and I want to know what makes Dovewing so lovable in case I've been looking at her in the wrong light this whole time.

Love is a strong word, but Iโve always tended to prefer her over Ivypool. Not for any logical reason but a sympathetic one- Iโve always had people jealous of me and no matter how hard I tried to make them feel better, jealousy is sick because no matter how much you humbly grovel on your knees you wonโt ever be able to change how they feel. Jump through hoops and they get even more jealous. Ruin your life and they cry victory. Thereโs no escaping it. So as someone who experienced what Dovewing did, yeah, I guess Iโm just biased.
But Iโve never hated Ivypool or been bitter with people who like her, cause I understand that sometimes you just canโt help jealousy and it can feel as helpless as someone jealous of you. And I totally get it that people would be more sympathetic of her. Itโs just personal experience and preference. Plus, Ivypoolโs a boss, Iโm sure we can all agree on that. The worst we can say about her is that she โisnโt as cool as we thinkโ.
Plus, Iโve just never really been bothered by Dovewing. I donโt know why, I just didnโt. Whiny? Sure, but Iโve gotten used to it by sharing a room with my 14 year old sister. Stupid? Arenโt we all?

I don't love Dovewing, but I like her well enough. I definitely prefer her over Ivypool, who I can't stand. I don't really have any particular reasons for liking Dovewing. I just do. I guess maybe it's because I prefer characters with soft personalities over hard personalities. Plus she's never done anything to get on my nerves so I have no reason to hate her. I understand why she is the way that she is, especially when it comes to Tigerheart. I'm one of the few people who actually really like their relationship and is glad that they're endgame.

I'm not really a huge fan. I don't hate her, I just don't LOVE her. I mean, she's decent, but I guess I feel like she's kind of annoying, I respect her a good mother, and I believe she should've stayed mad at Tigerheart and had gotten a Thunderclan mate or she could've been like Mousefur and hadn't had a mate. But yeah, anyways, she's not one of my favorites, but I guess she's aright.

Tbf though I've seen a lot of (presumably) younger fans liking her (I don't know why but it's not like they're not allowed to like/dislike who they want=. That was on German sites however.... Which makes me wonder whether the different countries have different characters that are generally seen as (un/)popular or if it boils down to mostly the same characters

Dovewing is actually pretty hated within the fandom. It's actually a minority of people who like her, including myself. Actually, I just find her to be okay. She's not the greatest character ever written or anythimg, but she's still a good cat at heart. In fact, I can sort of see a little of myself in herโwe both try to others happy, but it doesn't always end well.
That said however, it's a shame she was written so poorly, because there has been alot of potential with her that either wasn't explored enough, or at all. Her forbidden relationship was also unnecessary, and the sibling rivalry with Ivypaw drove me crazy that I'm glad it didn't last long.

TS ruined her character, or at least even more than the previous books did. There's a reason why my favorite books in OotS involve her without her relationship drama (well, save for TFW, but I didn't find it as annoying as it was in other books).

I like Dovewing because she has many flaws and to me, she is a realistic character, even if her romance is poorly written. Dovewing is a people pleaser. She tries her best to please her Clan because they expect her to do what's best. Because of the prophecy, she feels she has to be the best for her Clan. She feels responsible to look after everyone, and that's a lot of pressure put onto a young cat.
Dovewing was forced to grow up fast. So of course she's not going to react the best way about some situations. In the end, she has matured, in a way, and developed. Dovewing is a very kind and gentle cat. She has a slight temper, and she can be a hypocrite at times, and even selfish, but she's a good cat at heart.
That doesn't mean that I am pleased with her romance, though. The way she treated Tigerheart and Bumblestripe have been awful. She used Bumblestripe to try to move on from Tigerheart, and pressured Tigerheart to choose her or ShadowClan without giving him much time to think. It's.. a pretty petty move of her, I admit, but this also shows she has flaws. It also shows that she's willing to sacrifice anything for the cat that she loved, to show how loyal she is to Tigerheart and how much she's willing to do for him, whatever it takes, to make him happy.
Dovewing by no means is the best written character, she's poorly written, especially her romance, but I like her because of this. She's very flawed, but she knows what's best for her and the ones she loves. I just wish the editors didn't treat her character like trash in the recent books.

Ivypool is awesome, but I still like Dovewing. She's a gentle cat who had a huge destiny forced on her at an early age.
