Hello!
I'm out of touch. I have big ideas I want to work on, but my knowledge has gotten Rusty(hehe). So, if I'm going to rewrite an entire book, and potentially make it longer than a super edition, I'm going to have to know every character as they are before TLH takes place. I'm going to have to learn their personalities, take notes, recall strategic battle moves, know how the medicine works...its a lot to do, but I'm determined to do it. So I'm going to reread the entire series! However, I do not wish to do this alone. A major issue in our community is lack of communication, so I'd like to try and encourage more of it. This thread is dedicated for discussion and thoughts about the books as I go through them, as well as not taking everything seriously, and just having fun. Remember the OotS on the old forum? Those huge discussion threads that just barely kept from becoming off topic at the last moment? Well, I mean that kind of topic. (,:
Feel free to post art, dank mei meis, philosophical discussions, musings, ideas, whatever you wish. Just don't release the kraken, I beg of you. Below is all the fancy stuff used to keep track of what I've read so far.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day's Left: 0 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Current Book: Into the Wild, Chapter 5 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Books Read: None ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Current Notes: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So something has bothered me for a long time. How the heck did the cats figure what was safe to eat and what wasn't?
Eaglewing, a medicine cat: Well, that's herb number 50 down. Mark down water hemlock in the super deadly pile. Berryfrost?
Berrynose: *dead*
Eaglewing: *sigh* Looks like I need another apprentice.

I imagine the same way humans figured out what was safe to eat and what wasn't. Or any other animal for that matter. Trial and error, I would think.
That being said, I find the fact that some cat at some point decided to collect the bile from a mouse and spread over their coat to be odd though. Next novella story?

If you're doing a re-read, I'm totally up for joining you! I just finished Rising Storm actually, but I'll slow down a little bit if enough people are interested? I actually haven't read beyond Eclipse, I actually stopped reading the series in my early teens, but I really want to come back and I'm pleased that there are still people around actually talking about it lmao.
My major question is just... there are so many freakin' books now! I feel like an old man! What order am I supposed to read them in? I mean, I started fron Into the Wild because that just... made sense, but I do want to read all the extras... just... when. lmao.
Either way I'm interested! Count me in!

re: medicine cat trial and error i mean cats deciding "i'm going to eat this plant and see what happens" is about the same level as the human who first looked at a cow and said "i'm going to squeeze those things on the bottom and drink what comes out of it"

One that comes to mind the most is definitely the first person to discover popcorn. Can u just imagine. A guy sitting there, cookin' his corn. And then BANG

peachblossom I always do the spaghetti throwing thing. You throw it at a wall and if it sticks then that means it's al dente! I began a reread myself when the ReadClan thing began but didn't have the time to keep up. Only got to FOS so Rising Storm is next. I enjoyed it tho, It's nice to read about the Old Forest again.

Rainshadow al dente ..... im foaming at the mouth, really. why can't it be dinner time alreadyI feel like because of the amount I read I'm more attached to the old forest, but I guess as I move on to all the new stuff, that might change! I keep hearing people refer to all these cats, and I have no idea who they are!!!! I'm so excited to meet them all

Okay so how did the Clans figure out counting? Did some random cat well versed in arithmetic educate them in the art of counting stuff and the medicine cats choose to withhold their knowledge to feel like they had superior intellect? I mean, I would, I'd be salty about all the stigmas associated with being a medicine cat. I'd probably end up poisoning my Clanmates, whoops

When should I go back and read those, like, what's a good place to stop with the original stuff?

Into the Wild: Chapter Notes
Prologue
In hindsight this was really cliche. Chapter 1 Nice foreshadowing. I like that they showed Smudge was really bad at balancing. Nice touch. - "hhuufffff" Well that's one way to describe a sound.
Chapter 2 I liked that line a lot. - Graypaw pls, stop being racist to Rusty
Whoops, a lot of cats broke that rule. bluestar pls, have some decency Chapter 3 - Smudge is acting like a voice of reason about not trusting random strangers. Well, I mean...Bluestar essentially asked Firestar if he wanted to join their gang.
- To be honest, I don't really feel the sadness between Smudge and Rusty leaving. They had only one interaction, and it wasn't enough to make me feel that they were good friends. I'm more sad about Firestar's owners losing their cat.
Very good Rusty, you can indeed smell cats. - So Lionheart and Whitestorm are the exposition givers to the fish out of water Rusty.
- Agh, its weird they refer to every she-cat as 'queen'.
- I feel like I'm watching some anime where the outsider must prove his worth by fighting all the bad dudes who are against him.
- W o w ThunderClan they're all laughing at Rusty
If there is anything ITW does right, it's the symbolism. Rusty is free of his life as a kittypet, and proved his worth. Good stuff. - and now they're all accepting him, way to go animestar
- Apparently Longtail is good looking. Huh.
I miss Graypaw, he was actually an interesting character. Chapter 4 - I find it interesting the first book seems to show that Goldenflower is Ravenpaw's mother.
- Whole lot of exposition going on
I have a sneaking suspicion he's trying to figure out if Ravenpaw will die before he can rat out that Tigerstar killed Redtail. Yeah, it's really obvious, reading his eeeeviiil description. You suck at being subtle, Tigerstar. Nice foreshadowing. - Tigerclaw quite spying on old cat people
- Tigerclaw, you suck at being subtle
uh huh...
Chapter 5 Tigerclaw and Lionheart don't take kindly to yer suggestion of Democracy, Firepaw.

I love that the deciding factor of Rusty joining the clans isn't the call of the wild, it's the fact that his d*ck will be gone if he stays

Probably my favourite moment of the whole first book lmao One thing I found when I started rereading them was that ,,,, you forget how /early/ everything happens. Like they're already mentioning Bluestar's lost kits, Yellowfang is pretty much there from the beginning. It feels weird, definitely more noticable in Fire and Ice and Forest of Secrets, but that feeling is there. Huh.

I love that the deciding factor of Rusty joining the clans isn't the call of the wild, it's the fact that his d*ck will be gone if he stays Well, not exactly that, but rather... er yeah, you know what I mean... *coughs*But in all seriousness (Or not really serious because I'm laughing my a$$ off) I laugh at how I -And probably many others as well- probably didn't even so much as catch that when I was younger and half-way through reading ITW for the very first time. But then years later when I was rereading the book for the first time in for fricken ever as an adult to jog my memory back the first thing I thought when I reread that bit was like "Did... Did she just look at his..?... BLUESTAR! JEEBUS WHERE'S YOUR DECENCY OMFL-" It was like those cartoon shows or something that are aimed usually at kids but would also slip in the occasional adult joke/innuendo in every now and then as well that you wouldn't get until you got older and saw/heard it again. lmao Literally the deciding factor for him is that he didn't wanna get his dinglydoos gone and hecc it's hilarious and I can't even keep a straight face even typing about it now.
