i didn't wanna flood my crowxleaf thread with this topic, so i'll make a new topic for it here.
i hate both of these characters. both are at fault for being horrible people and horrible parents. to me, i will always see their relationship as they both used one another.
i see it like this: (i'll just be repeating some things i said on my other thread):
nightcloud couldn't get a mate when she was younger, so when crowfeather came back and needed to appear loyal, she accepted his mate proposal just so she can have a mate and kits like she always wanted. to me, her "trying to make him love her" always seemed stuck up and selfish. if i remember correctly, in one of the early power of three books, it is shown she presses her fur against crowfeather's and crowfeather clearly doesn't like it or feel comfortable because he doesn't respond (since i can't remember which book this is in, i can't say for sure what the written reaction was). and because she couldn't force crowfeather to love her so she can have her "happy little family" dream come true, she turned their kid against him, which is a horrible, despicable thing to do as not only a person, but as a parent and life partner/spouse.
crowfeather has been through so much in his life that he closed off all his emotions. he didn't ALLOW nightcloud to understand him because he closed everything off, both emotionally and mentally. but even still, nightcloud didn't understand him, and thus forced herself on him and "tried to make him love her." nightcloud is forceful, which is a trait crowfeather doesn't like. in both feathertail and leafpool, they were gentle and a bit passive, and in both cases, crowfeather made the first move. here with nightcloud, he asked her to be his mate, but he doesn't have any affection for her, and it is implied he only cares about her because she's the mother of his kit. crowfeather is a bad parent because he doesn't love nightcloud, and therefore he felt awkward to be around his own kid. it also probably has to do with him not opening up to anyone because of how much leafpool leaving him messed him up.
crowfeather put EVERYTHING into his relationship with leafpool. when he was introduced in the new prophecy, he was closed off and grumpy, and made himself the outcast. feathertail opened him up, only to die later, saving him, and giving him guilt. then he found leafpool. he once again opened himself to her, only to have her chose her clan over him, ONCE AGAIN leaving him not wanting to open up ever again.
this begs the question. who is the more horrible parent. crowfeather DID try a few times to scold breezepaw when he did wrong or acted out, but he didn't PRAISE him for anything. he only did the negative and not the positive. meanwhile, nightcloud excused breezepelt's actions and never taught him right from wrong, and she made him stuck up by making him believe he could do no wrong. not to mention she turned breezepelt against his father, which is something a mother should never do, no matter the circumstance. to me, i think nightcloud is more to blame because she actively made breezepelt think bad about crowfeather. instead of getting him to move on and grow up from his feelings about crowfeather, she ENCOURAGED these feelings and made them much more worse. without nightcloud constantly excusing his bad actions, breezepelt wouldn't be as bad as he turned out.
just because i blame nightcloud more, doesn't mean crowfeather is off the hook. he is still an absent parent and didn't try hard enough. he didn't stop nightcloud from poisonning their son's mind set.
