Is it really a big deal? Sure, the clans have a pretty organized and functioning society that depends on each other’s cooperation and following the rules... but do you think we can be a bit too harsh on cats for... well... not being clan cat enough? For not following the rules enough?
I mean, it makes sense for us to be too harsh on the cats- it’s completely natural especially due to the book Code of the Clans. We were first told to believe that before clans were formed, the sheer lawlessness caused all sorts of bloodshed and disaster, and everyone were dropping like flies. Then the clans and warrior code brought order and peace and they all lived happily ever after-
yeah no. DOTC came out and it was the exact opposite was true. The original cats were peaceful. Everyone minded their own business and when cats did live with each other they did so rather efficiently and decently. RiverClan was around way before the other clans even existed and they were fine. It was the tribe cats- the ones who lived in an organized and strict manner- who caused all the fighting. They created the conditions- and rivalries- that would result in generations and generations of turmoil. The clans and the warrior code weren’t the solution to the rogue lifestyle- they were the solution to the newly formed group lifestyle turned violent through one massive family fued.
And so at least in my opinion... I don’t freak out when cats break the code. Or they run away. Or they mess around too much. Or they switch clans too much. Overall when they aren’t loyal enough. Cause in reality, they’re just trying to live their own freakin lives outside of the clan system. Be alone if they want, be together with someone else if they want, be in a group if they want- do something other than live in the clan system.
I mean I get it, if you’re going to be in a clan... be a good clan cat. Don’t be an insane murderer, do good things, and defend your clan. But if you don’t want to be in a clan... honestly no big deal. Go be happy. Love who you want. You’re not selfish, you’re not cruel, and there’s potential for happiness elsewhere.

I don’t care when cats break the code either because no one ever gets punished

I made a thread about the Warrior Code and how it should be reinforced more. It's old but I'll be remaking it. The Warrior Code Thread

This is pretty much my opinion. Sure, it's a little irritating from time to time, but overall, I just don't care if a cat breaks the warrior code unless it actually causes alot of damage.

Cats breaking the code is so watered down at this point, everyone is doing it and no one is getting punished. What's the point of the code anymore then??

Yeah, I agree that the code is important in clan society- because the groups created so many problems between themselves that they had to restrict each other through creating a bunch of rules- but my point is, most problems aren’t caused by breaking the warrior code- they were caused by rivalries and a war culture that the clans created themselves. Most rogues and loners generally don’t mind each other- it’s the clans themselves that cause their own problems- they are trained to cause problems. The warrior code is just there to keep them on leashes.
In a way, I think if cats were less loyal and just did their own thing and minded each other’s business, there would be less strife. And so in cases with cats switching clans or leaving the clans- they are trying to do what they want and not be in such a strict, militarized setting.
