Before I begin, none of this is be taken personally. It is simply what I have observed from the new forums.
In a nutshell, the problem is microthreads.
The Problem
The issue is, topics are getting bumped down as more topics appear, but with 2 or 3 similar discussions about the same character. People make their own separate threads on a character that another forumer from a previous topic already mentioned.
For example, take a topic on Rainflower. Person 1 makes a topic about how they dislike Rainflower. Well, Person 2 mentions in the topic they don't think she was that bad. Instead of replying to the Person 2 on that topic, Person 3 comes along and will instead make another topic dedicated solely to saying something like "Why do people sympathize with Rainflower?" based off of the opinion of one person. Person 3 could have quoted Person 2 the same topic before. By making a separate topic about the same character, Person 3 splintered the conversation into two conversations about the same character, adding redundancy and making 2 short topics, rather than a 2 to 3 page longer topic on the same character.
The issue with this is that other topics continuously get bumped down as people make separate topics that are unnecessary. Instead of 5 to 6 page long threads, we get 10 to 11 short threads, with maybe 2 or 3 people responding.
Because what it essentially does is tire out conversations, and makes engaging in them redundant. Do you think to yourself, "I wish we didn't have so many topics about the same character?" Having larger, 2-3 page topics that can grow and add onto the topic will keep the interest and conversation going. These short, similar topics about the same character? They effectively kill conversations and communication.
So, how can we solve this?
Just add to the topic mentioned instead of splintering off to make a similar topic. If someone has a topic on Daisy's character, and you want to make your own viewpoint, you can easily add to the same topic. This allows conversations to flow, and keeps interest in the topic at hand.
Perhaps I'm not the best person to point this out. I'm not blind. I'm a controversial forumer. But I have been here since 2011, and have a knowledge of the trends in posts. And I've noticed the new forum's problem of splintering topics is a bit of a problem on the Warrior Cats General section.

Yeah, that’s pretty true, but I think it has a lot more to do with people just not wanting to talk to other forumers directly. There’s a lot of chat, but “no face to face” conversation so to speak.
And I honestly think it’s because we all really need to be less defensive around each other. We’ve come to a point where we’re all talking to everyone and no one at the same time- “people”, “people on the forums”, “the fandom”, etc. Just... talk to the person. Don’t see someone that says something disturbing/confusing/interesting, then just post a separate thread asking everyone but the person a question that sparked your interest. I need to be better at that as well.
A month or two ago someone here basically told me I had no right to talk about books I hadn’t read, and when I replied to them defending myself they completely ignored me and just created another thread complaining about “people” who talk about the books they don’t read. Like dude. I’m right here. Talk to me, we can figure things out. I had a thread to discuss the topic personally literally right below it.
