I've never been able to figure out whether they have a regular friendship, an older brother/little sister sort of relationship or a "There might be something there that wasn't there before ๐" sorta thing

To me, I read it as they were close friends. Jay and Briar spent a lot of time together to keep Briar healthy and it's hard not to become attached to someone you spend that much time with. Still, I am the person that missed the fact that Cinderpelt had feelings for Firestar in my first three readings of the OS, so there might be something there. I'd prefer the platonic relationship though, not all single cats of opposite genders that seem close have to have feelings for each other.

Heh, actually ever since I found out about Cinderpelt's secret thing for Firestar I've been searching for things between the lines xD And what with all the debate over Briar and Jay's relationship, I've always been a little perplexed as to its nature. But I agree with you; I've always been particularly fond of the close friend idea best. |

I used to ship them until I realized I actually like Jay x Half. But Briarlight and Jayfeather are now like best bros to me :'( they were BEST FRIENDS

In fact, Jayfeather doesn't seem the 'mating type' at all. me, being petty, salty, and that one guy: neither was ivypool and yet here we are! but in all seriousness, even though i ship jayxhalf, i still do know its kinda rushed and it changed jayfeather's character, but it's still a ship that younger me latched onto. |

I always saw them as friends and nothing more. Actually, I feel this way about any Jayfeather ship except JayxHalf, and even then I wish it had been better developed, but I can see why it was a bit rushed since Jayfeather only traveled back to the Ancient times twice.
