Hello everyone! it has been many months since iv'e posted here. so many of you wont have any idea who I am. But I recently re read the original series. While I was doing so I noticed that in the last three books the fact that whitestorm is old is mentioned a lot. its like the Erins really wanted us to know that this cat is old.
Rising storm through darkest hour went kindof like this.
Fireheart is trying to figure out how to be deputy, Bluestar is unstable, Whitestorm is giving Fireheart advice, whitestorm is also old. Bluestar is even more unstable and believes are entire clan are traitors, and whitestorm is old. A fire starts and they have to evacuate. also, whitestorm is still old, just in case you forgot. bluestar declares war on starclan, oh and whitestorm is old. tigerclaw is now tigerstar, and whitestorm is old. a pack of dogs is stealing prey, bluestar accuses windclan because well, shes totally out of her mind crazy at this point, and whitestorm? hes old. Fireheart finds out the dogs are going to attack the clan because tigerstar is luring them to the camp, and whitestorm is old. fireheart comes up with a plan to stop the dogs, and whitestorm is old. bluestar comes to her senses and saves fireheart from the lead dog, she dies and fireheart becomes the leader of thunderlan, whitestorm is still old. fireheart becomes firestar and tigerstar tries to force all the clans to become one. whitestorm is old. bloodclan shows up and sourge kills tgerstar via one hit KO. whitestorm is old. the clans prepare to fight bloodclan. firestar reflects that whitestorm is old enough to be an elder.
does anyone else think that the fact the whitestorm is old was mentioned quite a bit in those last three books? or is it just me?

Nope it isn't just you. I noticed it a lot as well during my rereading of the first series.
Thunderclan Joe Bide- I MEAN- Whitestorm is described many times to be old and would normally be hitting the elders den in his years, but I personally think he could've gone a bit longer before he was living his days there.
5.5 years at death? That is not old. I'd say 7-8 or even 9 years would be old for a wildcat like him imo. I think he was originally meant to be truly old before BP came around and reconned it.

I think like humans, some cats can keep up being active longer than others. There are some 90 year olds who can get around and keep up with 20 year olds just fine. maybe whitestorm took care of himself well and was able to stay in good enough condition to keep being a warrior for a linger period of time than normal.
Ive known cats that have lived into their mid 20's, granted, these were cats who are taken care of by humans. But I think if a warrior cat took care of themself, they could keep up with warrior duties as old as 12. But that is probably not common.

I'm pretty sure Whitestorm being mentioned to be old didn't go over anyone's head, seeing how often it was brought up. That being said, this no longer matters because of Bluestar's Prophecy. The first arc was originally going to be the only one, so alot of information from that arc has been retconned thanks to future books, especially the prequel Super Editions.

Yes, I thought Whitestorm to be 8 or 9 years old when the arc started and elders 12-15 years old at least when I read the original arc. Sadly, the original arc and its establishing canon has been twisted and retconned beyond recognition in the sequels, midquels, prequels, wiki, etc. Case in point, Spottedleaf. The reverse happens here. She is repeatedly described as โyoungโ in โInto The Wildโ yet afterwards she is turned into a middle aged creepy Firepaw/heart/star stalker, not much younger than Whitestorm at his death 5 books later! Thatโs why I look at everything after the original arc as another alternate time line and or bad fan fiction.
