Instead of judging cats as love interests, let's judge them as their own character.
I prefer Finleap because he's a good boy. He's so nice and has a positive outlook on life.
Tree's unique and it's funny when he flirts. I look forward to seeing more of him.

I really can't decide. I love both.

Finleap. Tree was just so...needless to me. I don't want another cat with these powers...

You're missing a "both" option.
Tree is an interesting and entertaining character, but the way he's treated in the narrative is a little odd at times. Though, the clans really do need a mediator sometimes.
Finleap fits better with the narrative and makes me genuinely happy because of how charming and cute his personality is. However, he reminds me of the apprentice version of practically every background kit in the series.

Finleap is wonderful. Tree is cool, just... no one beats Finleap. And as the others in the thread have said, the way the books treat Tree is.... bizarre.

I prefer Finleap, as I'm not so into the muscular type haha the name Fin gets me to thinking of Finn the Human so maybe it's an instant attraction to him for me.
But seriously, his name is Tree, he's laid back and he's down to chill.....
It's that catnip bro

I love both, but if I had to pick one I'd have to go with Tree.

Can I say both? Personally I prefer Tree though. Fin is ok but he's kinda cringey meh for me.

Finleap. Tree already loses points with me for reintroducing magical powers, but besides that he's just...not that interesting. He's laid-back and...that's about it. I'm hard-pressed to remember anything else except that he's weirdly good at diplomacy for a cat who has spent his entire life living alone.
Meanwhile Finleap is adorable, positive, fun, but not shallow--remember his self-image issues in DN, or the trickiness of his relationship with adoptive AND real father? Those are things that help him stand out! I was legit happy for him the first time he caught something after the tail accident (though I am mad he didn't get Berrynose as a mentor...I'm pretty sure they forgot he's short a tail, too). That's more than I can say for anything related to Tree. "Oh, he's a mediator now. Okay."
