Out of all the old characters that needed to go, the Erins killed Briarlight off in River Of Fire!!!!! I cried when I heard this.

Personally, I didn't like how they executed it. She's the only character that died from the epidemic, so it's obvious this plot point only happened just to kill her off. Same with the rock fall and Snowbush, just to kill off a random cat per book. Briarlight has cheated death so many times, and we knew she'd die eventually, but the way they did it in this book was just terrible writing imo. I personally never had qualms with Briarlight, she was an okay character. (It's her fans I don't like.)

Yes! Out of all the ancient cats that either need to be killed off or retired to elders, they took Briarlight?!

I'm sad that Briarlight is gone, but she can't be immortal. It's just unrealistic. You can argue that Warriors is unrealistic, but letting a cat live for so long with a broken spine just doesn't cut it. She had to go. This is coming from someone who likes her. I like her positive spirit, but I didn't like how the Erins wrote her cheating death so many times. It just seems unfair to me. It was time. She's been around for a long time.

I mean I probably wouldn't have much of a problem with this if they hadn't just only killed off Briar in such a badly written way. They should have killed off some of the elders or senior warriors too, along with Briarlight, not just her alone. (Imo she should have passed away during the back to back events of BrS, the fact that she survived all of that was ridiculous to me. I even expected Purdy to die in that book too, but he lasts into AVoS, and dies in such a dumb manner as well.) But honestly, I'm not surprised people are accusing the Erins of being ableist because of this book. Especially concerning the dialogue in that scene and how Briar talks about being a burden, like...??

I'm surprised she even lasted that long. And you can't say it's ableist since she survived the greencough epidemic back in BS when three young and healthy warriors died. Can't please everyone, I suppose. Nothing against Briarlight herself, she's my favorite of the litter.
