Does Alderheart remind you of Dovewing? *RoF spoilers *

I don't know why, but somehow I keep thinking Dovewing whenever Alderheart's character is built upon romance.
Now, I still like both cats. But, I have to admit I'm disappointed in the way the Erins are writing them. Alderheart had potential to be a good character, but he was just tossed aside. I liked him and his parenting with Twigbranch, but it feels to me that the writing focuses more on romantic love for him? Because he was so moony over Velvet.. I mean, I'm glad that he realized he shouldn't he with her and they accepted it. But the fact that this happened at all, makes it so unnecessary.
I don't mind that Dovewing loves someone, but to me, the situation feels the same. While the situation gave a purpose that it helped her not be... stressed I guess? I never really did understand the purpose, but she too was developed on romance.
Honestly, to me, Alderheart is male Dovewing. I'm glad he's more mature about this and actually chose his clan over Velvet, but it still feels unnecessary.
I guess I'm just tired of characters being built upon romance. Its unnecessary, sloppy, lazy, and it's obvious the Erins don't know what to do with Alderheart, so they threw in some half assed romance between them that only lasted 3 chapters.
I liked RoF, but oh man, it had many flaws, and this was one of them to me.
