Do you think the Erins/editors have been trying too hard to make Twigbranch seem cute and sympathetic throughout the arc?

I'm not sure if they're trying too hard or too little. Her exterior is different from her interior. She has lots of bad thoughts, but never voices them out loud.
Her caring for all five Clans felt slightly forced to me and for the first time, I'm getting irritated. I do like how they've made her sense of morale similar to Firestar's, though. That was a highlight in reading RoF.

I find it hard to tell. They make ThunderClan coddle her so much and she gets away with a lot, but that's common for that Clan nowadays. At the same time, however, even other characters outside the Clan coddle her. Nobody's ever called her out except Sparkpelt and Sandynose. For the former, apparently that means nothing now, and Twigbranch is great again. With Sandynose, she just decided he was a bully, and that wasn't addressed. So I do think they try to make her come off as cute, since Bramblestar praised her for her "open mind" and "good intentions" or whatever, even though aforementioned traits always generally led to disaster/her disobeying the warrior code/sticking her nose where it doesn't belong/just not plain listening to anything anyone says.

I think that they don't know what to do with her character. Aside from the Three, every arc since the original has focused on sibling dichotomies. It used to work before as there were a lot of opposites to be explored, but I feel like Twigbranch fails as a result of Violetshine developing into such a well-rounded character.
I think it's especially jarring since each previous dichotomy fell into the quiet vs loud archetypes. For once here, the less naive/kind one is also the quieter one, leaving Twigbranch with being both loud and naive - IMO, this is what's so grating about her.
If Violetshine didn't exist, Twigbranch would be a decent PoV since she is the only frame of reference we have. However, having her sister go through far worse and come out of it far more tempered, makes Twigbranch seem incredibly spoiled by sheer comparison.
The Erins probably also forgot just how old Twigbranch was given how long she was Twigpaw. It's unfortunate since I don't think there's any way to redeem her with one book left.
Also: Leafpool: Quiet, kind, intelligent Squirrelflight: Outgoing, boisterous, stubborn Dovewing: Kind, timid, uncertain Ivypool: Stubborn, short-tempered, hardened Alderheart: Uncertain, thoughtful, loyal Sparkpelt: Brash, short-tempered, courageous Twigbranch: Uncertain, kind, short-tempered Violetshine: Hardened, loyal, courageous
