I don't normally do these book reviews, but I will give it my best shot.
If you haven't read it yet and want to avoid spoilers, then stop reading.
I didn't like it. I was expecting so much more because Cherith wrote it, and her last book was Shattered Sky. That was my favorite book in the arc (and still remains so). A lot of it felt like filler, and we still have no clue whatsoever where we are going for the last book. No foreshadowing, hints, nothing. Normally the fifth book gives us that, as it's always the penultimate book in the series. Okay then. I also wanted to see more of Sparkpelt and RiverClan, which wasn't what we got. Sparkpelt didn't appear much (I wanted to see her mentor Twigbranch more), and RiverClan appeared for a few scenes. Not what I was expecting. I also thought the fire was gonna be cool, and kill some cats. Nothing much happened. And the sickness. Okay, only one cat died? Briarlight? I really wish the Erins would take the opportunities to kill off more cats. Either way, this book felt so lackluster, and could have been so much better. I suppose this is what happens when the villain is gone by book three.
However, there were good moments too. I'll include them below.
Fuzzball and Leafstar. They were the best things about the book. I felt bad for Leafstar because the ex- ShadowClan cats were constantly treading on her tail. I adored Fuzzball's friendship with Jayfeather. I had always wanted to see them meet, because I felt like Fuzzball is the cat who would drive Jayfeather up the wall. I hadn't expected to see him again, so that was a delightful surprise. Briarlight's death was heartbreaking, and Jayfeather choking up when he was about to praise her before her burial was terrible. He's kept her alive for so long. Rowanclaw's sacrifice was brilliant, so bonus points to him. I hadn't really forgiven him for separating the lost sisters. (I really want Sleekwhisker dead lmao, she got even worse.) Tawnypelt really should've been leader, but of course no one cares about her so. She'd better be Tigerstar's deputy, or so help me. But she won't, because the Erins hate her for some reason. Jayfeather ****blocking Velvet and Alderheart was pretty funny, because it's how I felt myself. I'm glad they won't be getting together (hopefully) even if they were kind of cute together. The scene where Twigbranch is about to be a warrior (glad she got a reason for her name, but it's still bad) was so great because Alderheart brought Hawkwing, Lilyheart, and Ivypool to watch the assessment/ceremony. I'm glad they remembered to mention Finleap's foster parent was Hawkwing, too. It was a nice little scene. I hope Dovewing and Ivypool can make up in the end, because that scene was kind of awkward. I expected Ivypool to be more furious. I thought the scene where Jayfeather praised Alderheart was great, despite what people say.
And that's about all I have to say for the book. Hopefully The Raging Storm is better.
