I started listening to Mumford & Sons and they have a very folkish feel, especially some of their songs (like "Broken Crown" and "The Cave") so I was thinking it might be fun to do a folk tale style fantasy sort of roleplay. Something in the sort of style, as mentioned in the title, of The Last Unicorn. If you haven't ever seen that movie and you enjoy fantasy to any degree, I recommend you go watch it as soon as you get the chance. If you like reading, read. the. book. It's so good. However, since this is not a roleplay based on the movie/book, just somewhat stylistically influenced by, knowledge of it is not necessary.
To give you an idea of what I mean, I'm thinking of something with a sort of fairy tale/folk tale sort of fantasy theme. So it doesn't necessarily take place in the real world, nor does it not take place in the real world; it's rather undefined. There's probably a kingdom/kingdoms, with kings and queens and princesses and such. There is probably magic, but many people might not know much about it. The plot itself would be pretty typical of a folk/fairy tale type story: a character who is pushed by some kind of unusual, probably magical occurrence into making some kind of journey/quest, for their own sake or the sake of their people/kingdom, either with others or alone, but encountering others to help them along the way. They probably must overcome some sort of great evil or enemy (or challenge, even if it's not strictly evil/an enemy) so that they can solve their problem in some way before journeying home.
So the structure of the story is pretty straightforward: things are normal/good until something bad happens. The character(s) must travel to another place and fact dangers/challenges to find the solution to their problem. They succeed (or don't, perhaps), and eventually return home victorious (or not). It's really the details and the challenges and events in between which make the story unique, and that's what the roleplay will be about. We can set out the details of where the characters start, and what the "main challenge" they face is, but the rest- how they go about solving it, and the dangers they encounter on their journey, how they interact, and so on- will be decided during the course of the roleplay.
This really is meant to be a 1x1, but honestly it could be a small group, with probably 3 or 4 people involved (though probably no more than that). I'm looking for literate/semi-literate (a few paragraphs per post on average, at least). Would anyone be interested in a roleplay if this type?

Awesome! A response came way faster than I anticipated XD
Do you have any suggestions, ideas, or interests to start us off? I can certainly suggest some things, but I always like to ask the other person if they have anything in mind first, since I'm pretty flexible so I don't mind building off someone elses' preferences.

Hmm either of those could work, yeah. What do you mean by what pairings? I typically prefer to make my main character male, though I don't have an issue with playing females as well, or even as a "main." I also usually make my main character gay, but that's more of a trend than a rule and I have no problem with mxf or fxf, if it comes to it, but I don't like to push towards romance- there's nothing wrong with platonic relationships in a roleplay, after all. Besides that, I do like to do characters (or at least, a character) who aren't (isn't) strictly a "normal human" (so they're some kind of creature, hybrid, or magic-user for example), but again, that's more of a trend than a rule.
Hmmm. As for plot ideas. I kind of like the idea of one of the characters being a prince or princess, or a fantasy beast of some form. So the idea of the royalty losing some sort of heirloom or important object, or ofa prince being dishonored, could certainly play into that. Perhaps it could be a little bit of both? Maybe the prince needs to prove his worth by traveling to a special place to retrieve some kind of special item, and must find/capture a kind of magical creature to be his guide, or something of the sort?
Slight variation of the idea, maybe the prince was like cursed or something as a child, and thus won't be allowed to take the throne? So he takes it upon himself to go find someone to lift the curse? And again, there could possibly be a creature who has some interest in this, or who he needs to help/guide him to lifting the curse. But I'm not sure that fits quite as well with this variation.
Of course, it could be a princess too, I'm just saying prince since that was your initial suggestion.

Hehe I just got the idea of maybe some kind of magical creature who has maybe been trapped in the body of a human? Or else a shape-shifter that's been trapped in one form. Or possibly a human/magic-user trapped in the form of an animal. In any case, some kind of character trapped in a shape that isn't necessarily their "true" shape. Who wants to lift that curse.
Yeah, there could definitely start off with either just the prince or the prince and one escort, and then have more join up with them later. And of course, it doesn't just have to be characters who join up with them. There could also be antagonists, or characters who have their own agendas (such as, if we go with the idea of an important object, who want to claim said object before the prince can, for their own reasons).

Some of the songs I was listening to to give inspiration/ideas. Listen at your leisure, or don't lol. Just figured I'd leave them there if you wanted to hear.

Hmmmm maybe. Or maybe like a Beauty & the Beast type situation, they were cursed to be some kind of animal or beast because they p*ssed off some kind of witch or something? Hmmmmm.

Hm I think I like the idea of them being a human/magic-user of some kind who is cursed to be an animal. So maybe how the prince comes upon him is he either encounters him in the forest (maybe trying to hunt/kill him or something? And the animals like "bro") or maybe the animal was captured at some point and everyone's like "ooh boi it can talk" and is maybe presented to the royal family as a tribute or something? Idk.
I'm debating what animal would be coolest too lol. I'm thinking either a stag or a bear.

Sun bear? Or sloth bear?
The sloth bears are actually kind of cute, I might roll with that lol. I had been kind of leaning towards stag but I'm not so sure now.

Hmm of course the other option is a crow, especially since that's typically considered to be my "signature" animal, but I feel like people would be significantly less surprised by a talking crow than a talking bear or stag lol. And between the latter two I think I've decided on bear. So now I'm like hmmmm bear or crow??? But that's not really the most important thing to be figuring out at the moment.
So we have an idea for a warlock and a cursed animal, and probably a prince? Or possibly princess. But we gotta figure out what the prince(ss) is actually trying to accomplish, and why, and what roles the warlock and the beast will play.

Oh, the beast is what I was referring to the cursed animal as. It just seemed like a shorter thing to say than "cursed animal" lol. But yeah, another regular human character couldn't hurt, I was thinking. Make it a round four, with two humans and two non-humans. Maybe we could make the thief/knight a female too? Hmmmm. Maybe a woman who wants to prove that she can be a knight as well as any man?

Cool! Would you rather be the prince or the knight? And any ideas on what the prince is doing? Like, is he lifting a curse of his own, or getting an object, or fighting an enemy, or what?
Ooooh boi I just thought of a good thing for the beast's curse and how to lift it too >

I don't want to spoil it completely. But basically something kind of like the Beast in Beauty & the Beast, except the answer to his curse isn't as straightforward as "find true love before the last petal falls." It's more like "ya gotta do something of this general variety but I won't tell you what." In any case, I think the idea is that he has to do some kind of good deed/be generally altruistic in order to break his curse, and he's tried, doing things like leading lost children out of the woods, helping animals, and that sort of thing, but nothing has been "good enough" to break his curse yet. So maybe he tries to help the prince for that reason, hoping that THAT will be good enough.

Yes, I have an idea for him. We'll see if it actually works out or not tho. Hehe listening to Broken Crown and Hopeless Wanderer is giving me ideas for the beast's backstory as well ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
And then maybe for the knight... it could maybe be a girl that knows the prince, maybe a servant or daughter of a servant or something? Or could even be a noblewoman. But she had always wanted be a knight, and couldn't due to her gender. But when the prince has to go on this journey, maybe no one else wants to accompany, and she's like "I'll go, it'll be a chance to prove everyone else wrong." Like, maybe the journey is really dangerous, or if the prince is cursed then maybe everyone just doesn't want to "catch" it or something, idk. Depends what the quest is.

Sure! If you want and it's okay with sweetclover, you could hop in with us. Otherwise, we can always do a different one just you and me. I don't mind either way.

Oh, my idea was more like, she wanted to be a knight but was never allowed, so now is her chance to go on an adventure ANYWAYS and be like "see guys I told you I was totally capable despite being a girl!" So that hopefully they'll allow her to be a warrior if she can complete the quest successfully. So I imagine that she's trained herself with various weapons and stuff but is not officially a "knight" at this point. But yeah, they could definitely be childhood friends! I'm thinking either a servant, or possibly another noble of the city (maybe even, like, the princes' cousin or something like that). I definitely love doing platonic relationships, especially between a male and female since you don't see that as much (since people tend to want to force romance).

Yeah that was my intention ^^ hmmmm. I flipped a coin (because I couldn't decide lol) and she's gonna be a noblewoman. Should she be related to the prince somehow, or should she just be from a different noble family in the same kingdom? Like, advisors or something.
