So over the years there has been a lot of debate about how the actual code should or should not be changed. But what about consequences for breaking those codes? One could say that most of the issues surrounding the warrior code have been not the actual code itself, but the poor way the cats are faced with the consequences. Some are punished too harshly, some are punished too little, and several different leaders have punished their cats differently depending on their own personal interpretations and attitudes about it at the time. While leaving it to interpretation can be a good thing, as Graystripe was able to grieve the loss of his mate in peace and his kits safely given to Goldenflower due to Bluestar's own viewpoint, it can also be a bad thing if we have an intolerant, uncompromising Oakstar in charge of Mapleshade and her kits' fates.
On one hand, I think there should be a clear set of consequences added. It would prevent incredibly hostile leaders from being too harsh and prevent too lenient leaders from slacking. The only question is, would they even be able to agree?
The code itself is already disagreed with enough between the clans without consequences. ShadowClan only helps clan-born kits and ThunderClan helps all kits. ThunderClan is extremely strict with their cats crossing borders for no good reason while WindClan have grown accustomed to not enforcing that rule at all especially during leaf-bare when they almost always run out of prey and have to steal to survive. The code is constantly twisted, changed, and interpreted according to everyone's biases and situations all the time. How would that be different with consequences? No one would agree with the right amount of punishment.
So what do you think, should there be a standard consequence to breaking each code? Or should interpretation continue to be left up to each clan and each clan's leader?

Yes, one of reasons the code gets broken so much is that there are no true consequences to breaking it. Why have laws if are your not going to enforce them at all.

I agree. If cats keep breaking the code and there are no consequences in breaking the rules, then what point would there be in having their own laws or rules or whatnot?

For forbidden mates: (Medicine cat having a mate within their clan will be dropped, no reason for that rule): You choose which one you prefer. 'Harsh':
Half-clan kits cannot be punished. Will remind within their mother's clan. Once all the half-clan kits have become an apprentice, if able-bodied, both parents must be exiled.
'Lenient':
Half-clan kits cannon be punished. Will remind within their mother's clan. Both parents will lose all privileges. Cannot; go to gatherings, have an apprentice, become deputy or Medicine cat. If a Deputy or leader, they must step down from their role. If a Medicine cat, they must have a fully trained apprentice before stepping down.

Bluestar's punishments were very fitting, and they acknowledged when Firepaw/Fireheart was right but still breaking the rules. Though since Firestar became leader, the only punishment I can think of for somebody breaking the code was stripping Jayfeather of his medicine cat duties, which were called for by the other Clans. Even Leafpool picked her own punishment but only after she was found out. Having not read AVoS, I can't tell whether anything has happened there. But I agree with mellowix in noting that, if there are ever consequences, kits by the word of the warrior code must not be harmed, and thus not punished, for something that is not directly their fault.

That's true. Even though Firestar's my favorite character, I gotta admit that he had been a little too lenient on punishments ever since he became leader. Though I think I remember that he made Berrynose and Birchfall look after the elders for crossing the ShadowClan border.

Yes. People might actually take it seriously then.
Seriously. What is even the point of it when no one follows it and no one gets punished?

Exile from both Clans, kits must stay in their mother’s Clan regardless of their father. Mother must stay with her kits till they no longer need milk, as long as there is no other nursing she-cat. If there is a nursing she-cat, she is exiled immediately alongside her mate, she is not allowed to name her kits either, as allowing the Clan/nursing queen to name the kits would build a stronger bond to the kits, alongside showing the mother how severe her punishment is. She and her mate must then leave both Clans territories, they are allowed to join the other two remaining Clans, if they will take them. If no Clan will take them, the two cats are then exiled from all Clan territories and must leave the lake. To be found on territory afterward, could lead to death or being simply chased off. Kits would not be discriminated against as they would only know their mother’s birth Clan and have no knowledge of their half Clan blood.
Forbidden relationships without kits shall be treated the same way with exile. An apprentice in a forbidden relationship will have one chance and be given severe punishment, in the place of exile.

Any cats crossing another Clan’s territory for no good reason, will then have to spend a night outside of camp, having to live like a loner or rogue for the night, as they cross borders all the time, and a Warrior should know better than to break such a rule.
