I had to take a moment when she was actually thinking about her dead mother.
Woot woot.

I feel like she is the type that doesn't dwell on her emotions or thinks too much about them, especially painful ones. I think she thinks about them when something happens that stirs them up, but otherwise she is a bit more closed off. (I could be wrong, it's been a while since I read the books).
It will be nice to see her thinking of Pebbleshine though.

It will be nice to see her thinking of Pebbleshine though. Nah, I get the same feeling! People sometimes rag on her or think she's mean, like when she got annoyed with Twigpaw for bothering Hawkwing about Pebbleshine. She comes off as cold, because she doesn't think about her mother much, if at all -- especially compared to Twigpaw. There are, however, plenty of kids who lose one parent or both, and they don't dwell on it. It's not that they don't care, and they might occasionally feel a pang of loss or grief (usually in a What Could Have Been way, since her life's been terrible due to Pebbleshine's death,) but they didn't know their parent(s), and so they don't feel a connection, you know? It's not unusual at all. Related or not, they didn't know that person, so there isn't anything to really miss. Now that she's with her kin, I'm not surprised she's given her mother a little more thought, but I don't imagine she'd think about it that often. There's a lot of kids who were orphaned early, who think that. It's why she and Twigpaw are so different, both upbringing and personality wise, because they show both versions of dealing with stuff like that. Opposed to Twigpaw, who built a pedestal for her kin in her head, Violetshine was on the other side of the spectrum.

Opposed to Twigpaw, who built a pedestal for her kin in her head, Violetshine was on the other side of the spectrum. I am glad I am not the only one that sees Violetshine like this. I mean yeah, she does treat her sister unkindly, but in her eyes Twig hasn't been there for her. I can see why she puts Needletail on a pedestal because both times she felt unwanted, Needletail was there. Needletail was there even after Violetshine ditched her and returned to Shadowclan. She sees Hawkwing in the same light now. But again, these are cats that she has actually interacted with, unlike Twigbranch who built her parents up in her head. In fact Twig was disappointed that she wasn't connecting as well with Hawkwing like she had imagined. Violet isn't the type to express her emotions, but that is understandable when she was raised feeling unwanted, had lost her sister and parents, and felt the pressure of a prophecy and not living up to it on her. I definitely agree with you with Violet not really knowing Pebbleshine, making it harder to miss someone who she never met. She didn't even have that warming presence like Twigbranch got when she was drowning in the lake. Both nature and nurture came into play with Violetshine and Twigbranch, and the sisters are very different. Also the amount of times I went to write Twigleaf instead of Twigbranch when responding is ridiculous.

This thread is great. What y'all are saying about Violetshine is absolutely true and I hadn't seen it put into words that well before.
