This word was used by both Bramblestar and Leafstar, and it feels really un-Warriors like. How do cats know what probation is?

Oh, that's far from the only example. Tree, SkyClan's "mediator".

Oh! They actually addressed my closed borders question in the bonus scene. (not really a spoiler, but thought I'd put it under the tag anyway) It's not just those two, she thought sadly. We're all starting to feel as if we have ants in our pelt. And I bet I know why.
Even though a Clan always stayed on its own territory, living behind closed borders was different. There was no friendly gossip with cats from other Clans on border patrol. No Gatherings. No half-moon meetings for the medicine cats. For RiverClan now, it was as though the other Clans didn't exist.
The cats of RiverClan had always thought of themselves as peace-loving, the last cats to get into unnecessary skirmishes. But now that they had no contact with the other Clans, all that was starting to fall apart.
We're turning on one another.
Interesting!

Interesting! And in one sentence I get more Riverclan characterization than I've seen in 3 arcs XD

Interesting! And in one sentence I get more Riverclan characterization than I've seen in 3 arcs XD Right?! lol I love their description. They're my favorite Clan, actually. Response under spoiler tag, since it goes into more detail about what happened ;p Mistystar is actually an ass in the bonus scene, refusing to let Mothwing and Willowshine ask the other medicine cats for herbs (especially since they rejected them at the border when the other Clans needed herbs, which Mothwing and Willowshine brought up. Way to bite off your nose to spite your face, Mistystar).
I don't know what is the issue with leaders and herbs in this arc...like, they just love messing with the medicine cats. This is as annoying as StarClan turning the medicine cats against each other in the last few books of OOTS. This is the 3rd or 4th time a medicine cat has either been rejected from getting a herb, like Puddleshine was when he sought help from WindClan concerning the ragwort, or weren't allowed to help, like Kestrelflight going against Onestar or Mothwing and Willowshine needing watermint and desperate to help their dying Clanmates, but are forbidden from requesting it from their fellow medicine cats. Mistystar even claims that Willowshine's vision was just a dream! Like, how disrespectful. It's ridiculous.

Plus, snapping at Willowshine that nobody told Clan leaders what to do?? Uhh...yeah, medicine cats do. I'm of the opinion that if there was ever a disagreement between the leader and medicine cat, medicine cat overrule their leader (I always viewed them as having more power, for some reason?) but maybe that's just me. That's why the idea of an evil medicine cat is so delightful ;p At least we got more characterization for Willowshine, and insight into RiverClan. God I miss their presence The reason why they became my favorite Clan was because of all the interactions and personalities we got with them from the first series...now it's all about WindClan and ShadowClan, since RiverClan's on the whole other side of the lake. We barely saw much of them outside a couple scenes of Alderheart and Mothwing, even when they were sheltering with ThunderClan.

It also annoyed me how the bonus scene was inconsistent with the actual book. In the book, Mistystar insists that RiverClan was totally about to rejoin the other Clans before the fire hit, and it's just a coincidence that the fire forced them to accept the other Clans' help right at that moment. In the bonus scene, she refuses to listen to Willowshine's suggest that they reopen their borders all the way through to the fire, and then Willowshine thinks "Oh, good, now she'll have to agree."

Oh, that's far from the only example. Tree, SkyClan's "mediator". I thought the probation thing was worse than the mediator, because a mediator is just someone who resolves disputes. Bramblestar and Leafstar both compare what they're doing to probation instead of saying it's probation, which means they know exactly what it is and that what they're doing is similar.

Bramblestar and Leafstar both compare what they're doing to probation instead of saying it's probation, which means they know exactly what it is and that what they're doing is similar. My issue with the mediator thing is that medicine cats are technically mediators, aren't they? They're above Clan rivalry -- well, they're supposed to, but apparently that's long gone now considering how they're treated in this arc -- and do what's best for everyone. They're the voice of reason during conflicts, like when ThunderClan was panicking over Bluestar's state of mind and Cinderpelt calmed them down, or Leafpool being reasonable many times when disputes broke out. If all else failed, the Clan leader or medicine cat go share tongues with StarClan to get wise insight. So what the heck does a mediator do beside...sit around all day? Since Tree didn't want to hunt or learn to fight or do much of anything. He just wandered around and kept stopping on patrols to scratch or look at stuff. What did he do that a medicine cat couldn't? Hell, even the seeing dead cats thing wasn't much, imo. It seemed like it was added as a shock factor for the end of Darkest Night, but now they don't know what they want him to do.
