Connor scanned the wall for books on the industrial revolution. He had gotten detention, and was at least making the best of his time. His class was doing a huge project on any time in history that interested them. Connor chose the Industrial Revolution and the advancemnt of technology throught recent history. Connor ran a hand along the ridges of the books as he walked down the library isle. Once He finally had a good stack of books, he decided to go skim through a couple of them. I mean, not like he had anything better to do. This was detention after all. It’s not like a Connor was a bad kid or anything. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Long story..
Connor went to sit in the crowd of kids who were also in detention. He was nose deep in his second book when he noticed a group of kids laughing and pointing to a short girl with thick, curly orange hair. His interest was suddenly pulled from his book to the group of kids.
Connor watched as a boy from the group laughed with his friends before getting up. He then began to approach the girl, who was nose deep in a book. The boy had jet black hair, dark brown eyes, and pale skin.
The boy snickered towards his friends before walking by the girl, purposely bumping her desk as he passed.
The girl gasped in surprise as the book that she was reading was knocked out of her hands.
The boy turned, “Oh. Sorry, hot stuff!” He said while turning. He picked up the book, “Here. Let me get this for you.”
“Oh. Thanks.” The girl said while smiling. He held out the book for her to take. Right before she could grab it, the boy pulled it away. Connor glared in agitation as at the boy.
“To slow!” The boy teased. He then looked at the book. “Whatcha reading?”
“Give it back!” The girl said while standing up. The boy stepped back.
He read the cover and scoffed, “looks boring. Here... let me help you!” He said before ripping a page out.
“Stop!” The girl said while trying to grab at the book.
The boy looked at her and glared, “Make me, Red!” He sneered.
The boy then grabbed her and held her there so she couldn’t jump for the book again. He reached his hands high and ripped another page out. The girl tried to get out his grip and grab it from him but it was no use.
Suddenly, something crashed into the boy. It was Connor! Connor pushed the boy away.
“Hey!” The boy yelled in disgust. He quickly recovered from the hit. He got back up.
Connor crossed his arms and scoffed, “how old are you? Four? Five? Cause you’re sure acting like it!”
Everyone went quiet, their eyes all on the girl, the boy, and Connor. Connor didn’t seem to mind at all, however, the girl was red with embarrassment.
Connor smiled, “hello! I’m Connor Greyson!” He introduced. “And just like you, it’s my first week of senior year.” He said. “It’s exciting! Really!” He said sarcastically.
The boy was about to say something, but Connor cut him off.
Connor held up his hand, “Oh I know who your are. The bully of detention! Showing off for your friends? Huh?”
The boy looked pissed, but it just encouraged Connor more.
“A really warped realty of you ask me.” He said with a shrug. He then looked at the boy challengingly. “It leads me to wonder; How dumb can you be?”
The boy huffed and tried to swing at Connor a few times, but Connor easily dodged each blow.
“Really? Your seriously going to fight me?” He scoffed. “Well from you just saw, that doesn’t seem like a good idea.” He said with a smile.
The boy tried to swing at Connor a few more times. Connor then smacked the boy hard in the side of the face.
Everyone else in the library flinched. Some laughed. The girl gasped and put her hand over her mouth.
The boy dropped the book and held his cheek, a red mark was already forming in the shape of Connor’s hand.
The boy looked up, completely shocked. “D-did you just slap me?” He asked.
Connor laughed, “yeah! Can you believe it?” He teased. He then got close to the boy and stared at him threateningly, “alright look. I’m stuck here for the rest of the year. And I’m assuming that you are as well. Why don’t you do yourself a favor and stop bullying. Alright?” He said.
He then backed up, “alright. Let’s make a deal then, shall we?” He said. “Don’t bother me...” he then pointed towards the girl, “or her... And we won’t have a problem. Okay?” He said while patting the boy on the shoulder.
The boy sneered and walked away. His friends were cracking up.
Connor picked up the book from the ground and gave it to the girl. “Here. Sorry about him.” Connor said. He then held out his hand for the girl to shake it, “name’s Connor.”
The girl hesitated, but shook his hand. “Adara.” She said in a quiet voice. Her voice was beautiful. She had a thick, smooth Irish accent.
Connor smiled, “nice to meet you.”
“Thanks for what you did just a minute ago. Nobody’s every done something like for me.” Adara said.
Connor picked up his backpack and turned, “well it’s about time they did.” He said before walking back to his original spot to get back to reading.
Adara smiled and blushed a little as she sat back down in her desk. Her cheek had large dimples, but they looked good on her.
Suddenly girls and boys began to walk up to Adara and introduce themselves and began to actually talk to her. They said that they were friends of Connor.
Adara looked back towards where the boy and his group of friends were and smiled triumphantly. She then glanced over towards Connor. She felt her heart swell with happiness as she looked at him. She silently thanks him. Things had suddenly tuned around for her. And it was all thanks to him.
