rules writing level ValleyClan is not a free or casual role-play; it is, at the least, a semi-advanced role-play. This means that you cannot type out one-liners most of the time. Just scraping by is three lines, but as long as you can type three or more you should be fine. Use descriptive words and emotions in your posts; make your character have thoughts; personify your character. Don't make them not have a brain. Also make sure to use proper grammar; there is nothing more annoying than not being able to understand someone's post because they are using improper syntax.
activity This is one of the most important rules for me. My friends and I have worked very, very hard on this clan and we do not want it to die out. I'm saying that you have to be on at least twice a week for a pretty lengthy period and actually role-play -- not just chat. If you will be gone for vacation, are grounded, or can't get on for some matter or another, please notify myself or one of my moderators ahead of time. I understand that people have lives - believe me, I do. I have training to do, a job, friends, and vacation, so I'll be gone often - but I'll still be on at least four to five times a week. I will be performing activity checks every Sunday. If you are not active enough, you will be deleted from the clan but will be given a warning beforehand.
meta-gaming I have been on the forums for a while and haven't seen many cases of Mary-Su's and Gary-Stu's lately, but just in case you are thinking of making one here - don't. There is to be no spotlighting, power-playing, or god-modding in this clan. You get two warnings for doing it before you are deleted from the clan.
character limits I will not put up a set number for the amount of cats you can claim, but please don't claim to much. I fully reserve the right to take some of your characters away if you are not role-playing them enough or if you have an excess of characters. I will put up a limit if it becomes too much of a problem. I will eventually allow for the creation of more characters but for the time being, please only claim cats - do not create any unless you have clear permission from myself.
plagiarism All of the work here is original. If one of the members of the clan catches you using something here, they will know to report you right away. An old WCF friend and myself worked very hard to make this clan and we will not tolerate any instances of plagiarism. As a claim-a-cat clan, all characters posted originally are mine - this means you cannot use them in other clans. If you are eventually allowed to create a new character then that character is, of course, yours and you may do with it as you please.
mentors & special positions If your cat is the deputy, medicine cat, medicine cat apprentice, or is a key cat in a plot, you must be on quite frequently. There will be no exceptions. If you are not, you will be removed from the position or plot and be replaced. If your cat is a mentor to an apprentice, you really need to be on a lot. If you are not on enough, I will reassign the apprentice to another person, so think heavily on your choice of claiming a cat that is a mentor.
spamming You're allowed to ask a person back to another role-play, of course, but you cannot post links to that role-play. If you are a member of the clan you are allowed to post links, but not that often. If it happens too much, a moderator or myself will confront you about it.
forum rules If you break one of the forum rules, you will be deleted from the clan and reported immediately. You will not be allowed to rejoin the clan.

introduction On a cliff of a large mountain, a group of cats sit around each other murmuring in hushed tones. From a nearby pine forest a tall, red she-cat emerges, head bowing in respectful greeting. As she enters into the group, the other cats silence and watch her with interest. "Well, what was I brought here for?" she asks in a gravelly voice. The cats look to each other as if seeing who would speak first. It is a few more moments before a large ginger tom with stars in his pelt steps forward and clears his throat. "Grousestar, my old friend, it is good to see you again. I have to put this as bluntly as possible: the gods are warring." Complete silence falls over the cliff. Not a breath nor a piece of prey scurrying among the undergrowth was to be heard; it is ominous. The red she-cat, Grousestar, looks as confused as a newborn kit. "That hasn't happened in many seasons, Yelloweyes. Are you sure that this is what is happening?" "Unfortunately, yes. We do not know why; we do not have the answers." Looking almost mournful, the tom steps back into the ranks of the original group. Before long another starry cat takes his place speaking to Grousestar, this one a gray tom. "Dreadstar... I... I haven't seen you since I received my lives. Where have you been?" the red cat asks quietly. "That does not matter, Grousestar. You must look into the mountain to understand the gods. A soul there is old and has remained for generations; it knows the Great One," Dreadstar says before padding away and fading into nothing. Looking bewildered and shocked, Grousestar whips her head around to face Yelloweyes and the rest of the cats. "What is going on, Yelloweyes?" she growls lowly. The tom only shakes his head and touches his nose to hers. "You will save the clan, Grousestar. You will keep them safe..." rankings AAfter being apprenticed, cats are put into a path. It may be based off of their skills; maybe because they requested it. Choosing a path isn't final. They are mentored by a cat in the rank they are placed in - hunter, guard, scout, or medicine cat. Apprentices learn skills from all ranks (except medicine cat, unless they are one) during their training. Each one has different skills, meaning every cat will fit into one.
hunter: Hunters make up the most of the clan. They are well-rounded cats- but, obviously, best at hunting. As the clan gets larger, hunters have more work to do- they are all the clan relies on for meals.
guard: Guards are strong and know how to fight. They are responsible for defending their clanmates, and may be the first into battles and frequently placed around the caves for defense purposes.
scout: Scouts are very small and lithe. First into unexplored or potentially dangerous territory, they must be quick thinkers - and runners. Due to having extensive knowledge of the territory, they also deliver messages back and forth.
medicine cat: Medicine cats heal their clanmates. With such a large range of cats comes a larger range of injuries- they seem to always be busy. However, each cat is trained in one skill more then the others - from wounds to birthing to collecting and identifying herbs.
Each rank has a head. The head is almost as powerful as the clan's deputy - problems go through them before higher up. Heads are chosen carefully and appointed by the leader for being exceptional in not only their rank, but having at least common knowledge of all.

characteristics The cats of ValleyClan are quite diverse in their looks due to the area in which they live. The desert basin that they call home goes through extreme hot and cold spells, and because of this the ValleyClan cats are a very hardy group. While most cats have short fur to deal with the heat in green-leaf, there is a number of cats who have longer coats that do them no harm in frigid leaf-bare. The most common colors in ValleyClan are reds and browns because those colors provide great camouflage throughout the territory, though it's not rare to see a lightly colored cat or a very dark cat. Eye colors range anywhere from bright yellows to murky blues. Paw pads tend to be extremely rough and hard so as to deal with the terrain better.
ValleyClan cats are generally very religious and regard their gods with the highest esteem. Thanks is given for every kill and every meal, even if the thanks given is silent. The clan is a very tight-knit family and the cats of the clan would give their lives to defend one another, even if they don't have the best relationships at times. Kits, queens, and elders are very well taken care of, though the queens and elders tend to very stubbornly deny that they need any help.
As mentioned, ValleyClan cats are very hardy. They generally aren't ones to accept help from others, even from their clanmates. Warriors tend to stay within their own ranking groups but when one looks at how the clan functions, it is blatantly obvious that every rank needs the other. Each rank is just a cog in the great machine of the clan, all working to benefit the clan.
ValleyClan cats believe in StarClan as well as a small pantheon of gods. Whether they adopted the gods from the Native Americans that pass through their territory or the other way around, they are highly respected and worshiped.
Gammu, the jackrabbit, lends swiftness to a cat's paws. He watches faithfully over the hunt and ensures the catch of good prey. Just as he gives swiftness, he can take it away and with it the promise of a good catch.
Kinii, the hawk, watches over all with her infinite wisdom. She is the goddess of medicine cats and oracles, as she also gives the gift of foresight.
Adku, the elk, deals in family affairs. He is the god that ensures good relationships and strong bonds. He is honored as the First God or the Great God as the clan is a family.
U'na, the badger, is the goddess of protection and motherhood. She gifts mothers with their kits and watches over them through gestation and birth. She watches over battles and protects strong warriors. She is also the goddess of relationships(family, friends, mates, enemies, etc.). territory ValleyClan takes up residence in Great Basin National Park, though this is before many humans lived in or around the park. Only Native American tribes sometimes pass through their territory but they do not try to harm the cats. Covering most of the territory is a large coniferous forest. There is a lake in the middle of the territory and another lake on the eastern part of the territory. There are many strange landmarks that the cats say their gods created. There are many small mountains in the territory, though not many cats like to scale them. In green-leaf the territory gets very hot, especially in the bristlecone pine forest, and in leaf-bare it gets very cold.
The Great Arch: The Great Arch is located in the southwestern part of the territory and is where the cats meet with StarClan. It is a naturally occurring limestone arch. In ValleyClan mythology, it is believed to have been carved out by the goddess U'na.
The Dead Forest: The Dead Forest isn't actually dead, it just consists of mainly bristlecone pine trees. Good hunting can be found here and this is also where apprentices are given one part of the specification tests. Hawks are known to nest here so it is dangerous for small cats to venture into the Dead Forest. It is located in the northwestern part of the territory. It is very sandy and dry.
The Reflecting Lake: At the center of the territory is the Reflecting Lake. It is bordered by a large pine forest on one side and large cliff on the other. Here is where cats can play and relax, though it is a bit of a walk from the camp to the lake. Lots of fish live in the lake so there is good hunting to be found here as well.
The Grasslands: At the westernmost part of the territory is a large section of grasslands. This area is extremely safe and rich with prey. Hunters train their apprentices here until they are ready to move on to more dangerous areas.
The Great Peaks: To the north of ValleyClan territory there are many large mountains which create the basin that the clan lives in. In these mountains there is a tribe of cats that are considered to be closer to the gods than any other cats. Only in times of dire need does the clan contact them. They have never been known to come down from the mountains. camp Settled back deep in the Lehman Caves, the clan makes their home. It's far enough back and concealed that it's been seasons since any twoleg has even come near them - but guards are still always alert. It's a spiraling mess of pillars and platforms, with varying shades of yellow and orange stone. It's possible to find a meal without leaving the camp- it's not uncommon to see mice or even bats for experienced hunters and climbers settled in corners. Kits and apprentices enjoy exploring the many rooms and holes to hide in, while still being careful of the puddles that cover the ground at time. There are multiple spots, all raised off of the ground, for nests. No rank besides the medicine cats and and leader have a specific den. The medicine cat den is closest to the ground and exit of the caves, which is entered through a hole in the wall that opens into a large open area. The leader's den is the highest up, where he or she climbs a pillar into a spot concealed by stone. Generally, the higher up a cat sleeps, the more respect they have within the Clan- an unspoken rule that usually only applies to heads.
The way to exit the caves is hidden in the back, a tunnel that cats have to push through and end up in the forest, surrounded by undergrowth and shaded by a large tree. This acts almost as a lounge for cats that feel uncomfortable closed in the caves for sometimes up to days at a time.

Frogpaw ----(w/ Tigerblossom and Nightpaw) ⭐ 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖜𝖎𝖙𝖈𝖍-𝖖𝖚𝖊𝖊𝖓
Four, dainty, brown paws landed delicately onto the smooth, rock floor. Frogpaw's narrow spine arched into a delicious stretch. A purr rumbling deep in her chest, the previous tension in her muscles released. The young she-cat then stood and strolled across the cave. Her ears and eyes scanning the clearing for other cats so she could prepare herself. Both mentally and physically.
It was silly, honestly, how nervous and clumsy she could be with her words whenever she didn't prepare herself for these types of things. So from then on, the tabby molly had made a mental note on, mostly mentally, preparing herself to speak with her clanmates. Though I shouldn't. Who gets scared to speak to her clanmates? It sounded even sillier thinking about it. So she didn't.
As Frogpaw neared the fresh-kill pile, the feline stopped dead. Green eyes ricocheting from Nightpaw to Tigerblossom, and back. Nightpaw. Just the cat I didn't want to see so early in the morning. Not that she had a specific problem with the dark-furred tom, it was just uncomfortable being around him. And not that he was unpleasant to be around- StarClan, he was the most pleasant to be around- it was because Frogpaw had feelings for him. If that was the word. Whenever he was around her she felt weird. Like she was walking on air, or like there were butterflies fluttering around in her stomach. Kind of like an anxiety, and not the social anxiety she usually had. The anxiety she had around Nightpaw was different. Less painful to deal with. Less of a burden to have around.
Clearing her throat, Frogpaw padded forward, stopping to dip her head in greeting. "Good morning Tigerblossom, Nightpaw." She mewed in her soft, clear meow. Grasspelt always thought it was a soothing voice. A great trait for medicine cats to have. Grabbing a mouse, she sat back down. Across from Nightpaw, closer to Tigerblossom. "I hope all was well on your guard last night?"

Frogpaw ----(w/ Tigerblossom and Nightpaw) 𝐿𝒶𝒹𝓎 𝑀𝒶𝒸𝒷𝑒𝓉𝒽
Frogpaw leaned forward to take another bite of her mouse as she listend to Nightpaw explain his guard. Nearly chocking trying to hold back laughter. "You'd think you'd liked night gaurds, considering your prefix." She joked, but instantly regretting it. Nightpaw probably took this seriously. Her making jokes couldn't possibly lighten his mood right now. The small tabby then cleared her throat, "But- um, I'm sure you'll get used to it."
A sigh escaped her as she rolled onto her haunches, taking another bite of her mouse. Feeling a bit embarrassed and awkward, praying she said the right things. It mesmerized her how she was s good at doing things in solitude, but turned into a complete idiot when she was in groups, well, groups outside of her close-knit medicine cat family. But still, there was no excuse to how shy she could be. Around cats that she knew. Or at least thought she did.
"So, um, how's your training going?" The question was meant to be directed towards both cats, despite the the fact that she refused to meet eye-contact. Her eyes focused on her mouse.

Frogpaw ----(w/ Tigerblossom and Nightpaw) 𝐿𝒶𝒹𝓎 𝑀𝒶𝒸𝒷𝑒𝓉𝒽
The small tabby watched longingly as Tigerblossom stood and padded away. Now she was alone with Nightpaw. A cat she could barely bring herself to talk to. If it wasn't for the fact that they were already... associated. She probably wouldn't have even so much as look at him. But luckily for him, she liked him. More than associates.
The molly's green eyes snapped back over to the dark-furred tom when he asked her another question. Her tail beginning to thump, looking away in thought. Hmmm. "Well, its going pretty good. I caught on pretty quickly to herbs and techniques in my first few moons. But, if I had to guess, I think I'll be assined to dealing with wounds or collecting." Though Frogpaw wouldn't have minded working with the nursery. But hey, she still could every now and again if someone wasn't available at the time.
Clearing her throught, Frogpaw tilted her head towards Nightpaw. Feeling her social-anxiety beginning to relax a bit. An amused gleam in her green eyes as she meowed, "And how're things going with you? Other than night guards, that is. I hope Blackfoot isn't being too rough on you?"

(Blackfoot)-- INT. Camp W/ no one, Day Blackfoot was known to be a little grumpy sometimes when he was stuck in camp alone for so long, but his mood tended to lighten up considerably when he was able to talk with someone. At the moment, however, the Guard leader was alone in a corner of the clearing, watching over it with a searching but bored gaze. Lo and behold, there were cats, but none of the guards could be bothered to help relieve the head guard of his duty and let him rest. --

( Blackfoot ) -- INT. Camp, Day; with Grousestar ( ⭐ 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖜𝖎𝖙𝖈𝖍-𝖖𝖚𝖊𝖊𝖓 ) He did find it a bit humorous. Of all the cats to be a saint and come to his aid while he absently watched the same cats over and over again like a furry cat-shaped stone guardian, it had to be his leader. Don't get him wrong, the brown-furred tom appreciated the hunter-made-leader with all he could, and found in her on of the best friends he could ask for, he was just wondering why she decided to start small talk with him -- of all things. " I did. I decided to take the night watch to relieve one of the others. They needed their rest. " Though I'm not exactly saying I don't. In fact, I'm exhausted. Though he wouldn't tell Grousestar that, not that it wasn't obvious from how he had relaxed when she came to talk with him. Blackfoot definitely looked tired now, especially as he bowed his head. " I hope that wasn't a bad thing, though. I don't want by guards practically falling out of position because of drowsiness. "

( Blackfoot ) -- INT. Camp, Day; with Grousestar
Blackfoot's gaze followed his leader's as she looked to the apprentices. Nightpaw was the best apprentice he'd seen in moons, for a guard at least, and he respected the young cat's attitude -- even if it was a bit much at times. " I am grateful that Nightpaw has friends like that, even if he is a bit... oblivious. "
Blackfoot chuckled to himself as he sat back and swept his tail over his legs, looking around the camp one last time before looking to Grousestar and listening intently. Any and all praise from the leader was appreciated, and it was better coming from a cat that Blackfoot trusted so much. " Of course, I had planned to ask of that much myself for him, since it has been a long time coming that he take his first watch. " He let out an amused sound, not quite a purr, " Bearpelt would be just the substitute. He may be lazy but he knows I'll keep watch over him if he doesn't do his job right. "
