Chapter One
Chapter Two
Stars prickled in Aurora's eyes as she dashed through the streets of New York City. The girl grinned, her long brown hair flying out behind her. She glanced down, smiling even wider when she saw the slender, mottled grey cat slinking around her feet. Aurora Mirren had just moved to NYC from Toronto, Canada. She wasn't your ordinary girl, though - Aurora had powers. She could talk to cats, and shift into a variety of wildcat and big cat species. She was also the Protector Of The Clans, appointed by StarClan via the first official connection between the starry felines and humans - Or Twolegs, as the Clans called them. Therefore, she could do practically anything that StarClan could. She could time travel to a limited extent, walk in dreams, give and receive prophecies, even control the weather. Her best friend was a warrior called Pebbletail.
It was a surprise how bustling and busy New York actually was. Her home in Canada had been populated by a few scattered Clans - The one that Pebbletail had recently come from was called SnowClan - But she had come across three Clans in parks and nearby forests already, not to mention countless rogue and loner groups, and practically thousands of Kittypets. But, still. She had Pebbletail. That was good enough.
"C'mon, Pebbletail," She encouraged the tomcat along. "We still have a pretty long way to go before we reach the hotel. Tomorrow, we'll go and start moving into the new house."
"Hmph," Pebbletail replied, yawning slightly. "But I'm tired!"
"I know, buddy," She sympathised, bending down to stroke the warrior slightly with her knuckles. Aurora scooped Pebbletail up into her arms, ignoring the tom's protests. "You said you were tired!" She laughed slightly. "I'll carry you there."
"Acceptable compromise," The warrior grumbled, tucking his head under the hood of her white hoodie. Aurora smiles slightly, setting off at a trot.
The pair quickly arrived at the hotel. Aurora quickly signed them in, before carrying Pebbletail up to their room. The room had strangely white walls, and a pale brown carpet with no small amount of mysterious stains. Aurora grimaced, her greeny-greyish-blue eyes flicking around, taking in every bit of her surroundings. She flung her backpack off, setting it down by the bed, before de-attaching Pebbletail from her shoulders, picking off each of his claws, and setting him down at the foot of the bed.
She quickly grabbed the remote for the TV - Why did this room have a TV, anyway? - And flicked it on, switching to the news channel.
"Earlier today, there were several inhuman attacks in Queens." The reporter's voice was serious and deep, and Aurora frowned. That wasn't good. "With the borough in complete devastation, and the Avengers nowhere in sight, it's time to wonder - Are we in for another Battle Of New York?"
Aurora sighed as she let the remaining news simply buzz past her, not absorbing any of it. She's never used her powers for anything apart from helping the Clans before, but she was starting to wonder if she should use them for... Something more. The girl paused, before shaking her head. No. That was a stupid idea.
However, the idea lingered in her mind as she readied herself for bed, only fully disappearing from her consciousness as she pulled herself under the covers.
"Night, Pebbletail," She told the warrior sleepily, flicking off the light.
"Goodnight, Aurora," Pebbletail replied a few seconds later, licking his jaws in a drowsy manner. The pair slowly started to drift off, and soon, both were sound asleep.

Chapter Two
Aurora awoke with a yawn, stretching. Pebbletail was still curled up by her feet. She sat up, poking the grey tom near the neck with her index finger.
"Wake up, lazybones." She joked. Pebbletail moaned tiredly, but slowly unravelled his tightly curled body, stretching out.
"I don't wanna wake up..." He groaned. Aurora could just see the glint of the grey warrior's claws in the light, emerging slightly out of Pebbletail's paws as he stretched.
"Well, you have to." The girl replied firmly, an air of finality about her. She swung her legs over the side of the bed, and started to get ready. Before too long, she was dressed and ready for the day. She was wearing a worn pair of aqua-blue trainers, a pair of brand-new black leggings, and a plain, pastel-pink t-shirt, with a lavender-purple, patterned fleece over the top. Aurora swung her bag over her left shoulder, before allowing Pebbletail to leap into her arms. She gave him a quick stroke, before going down to the reception, and checking out.
Both girl and cat sighed lazily as they went out onto the street. The sun was shining brightly above them, and the air was cool and moist - But not humid. Aurora looked left, then right, then left again, before turning off onto a narrow, ivy-covered street. She knew that her new home was nearby, and from the looks of things, this was a shortcut. The pair came out near... Times Square?
"Dammit!" Aurora hissed, and Pebbletail glanced up.
"I don't think that this is the right place." He told Aurora cautiously. "You promised that there'd be another Clan for me to join nearby, and no Clan would be as mouse-brained as to settle here."
"It isn't the right place." The girl said irritably. "C'mon, buddy. Let's go back."
Just as Aurora turned around to walk back through the alley, a loud bang! echoed through the square. Screams echoed from the other side of the area, and Aurora whipped around to see. A man was standing on the other side of the square - He had long-ish black hair, and was wearing sunglasses. That wasn't too unusual. What was unusual was the fact that firework-like sparks were circling around both of the man's clenched fists. The man extended one arm, and sparks flew out into the crowd. All that the sparks touched yelled out in pain, and, on closer examination, were severely burnt. Aurora dropped Pebbletail, who swiftly landed on his paws.
"Pebbletail, run!" She cried out. The warrior nodded fervently, sprinting back away from the square. Aurora ran off into a secluded corner of the square, before closing her eyes, tensing up. The familiar glow of power ran through her veins, and when she opened her eyes, she was noticeably closer to the ground. When she looked down, she saw a pair of rosetted paws. She had successfully transformed into a lynx.
Aurora ran back out into the square. The citizens around her began to flee, and she couldn't help but feel guilty at adding to their terror. However, she quickly pushed the feelings back down. She had to defeat the inhuman!
The big cat approached the inhuman at top speed, and Aurora was only just about able to form a thin, protective layer of StarClan's power over her skin, before she extended her claws, and lashed across the inhuman's face. The inhuman extended one hand, and a layer of sparks burnt into her side, stinging her skin. She flinched in pain, before rearing up, placing her paws on his shoulders, intending to push him down.
A ray of sparks flew up into her face, and Aurora let out a yowl of pain, and was only just able to concentrate enough to bite down on the inhuman's arm, sinking her teeth into his limb. The inhuman yelled out in immense pain, and Aurora released him as he fell to the ground, writhing. She turned to sprint away, and just as she turned to run, she saw black cars drive into the square, and strange, armoured men jump out.
She quickly reached the alleyway, and shifted back into a human, gasping. She rummaged through her bag, replacing her torn and lost clothes within a few minutes. Aurora lifted Pebbletail into her arms, setting back off for her new home, not looking back at the carnage behind her even once.
Within a few hours, she had gotten to her new home, and settled in. Aurora was sitting on the sofa, Pebbletail curled up next to her. She sighed in contentment - After the excitement, if you could really call it that, of the... Incident, earlier, the soft mundaneness of the scene was a comfort. The doorbell rang, and she hissed to herself in irritation. Why now?
The girl got up, going over to the door, and opening it. Outside stood a suit-clad man, wearing sunglasses. He flashed an important-looking ID, and Aurora could just make out the acronym "S.H.I.E.L.D" on it. S.H.I.E.L.D? What was that? She'd definitely not heard of it before, so why was this organisation coming after her?
"Miss Mirren, I'm here to talk to you about the Avengers initiative."
"Wake up, lazybones." She joked. Pebbletail moaned tiredly, but slowly unravelled his tightly curled body, stretching out.

Hello! Please feel free to comment about the story below, along with any ideas for what could happen next! I have a loose plot in mind, but there's plenty of room for adjustments! Just a heads-up, this story is set in an alternate universe where the Accords were abandoned soon after the idea was brought up, and Pietro, AKA Quicksilver, never died in the Sokovia battle. So, we'll be seeing pretty much everybody from the recent movies in this, but there will be NO mention of the Accords, or of the Infinity War. Also, the lake territory where ThunderClan, RiverClan, WindClan, and ShadowClan are is extremely close to NYC in this AU. Thanks for reading this footnote! Bye!
