Dear » ѕнαdσω ⚔️ -Wishing you the most amazing birthday ever <3You deserve it. You've been, and continue to be, a major inspiration for me, in both my writing and my artwork. You've encouraged me to create and to keep creating, and more importantly, you've always been there to pick me up when I've fallen. You are a treasure of a person who never fails to entertain us and intrigue us. You're a source of comfort and advice, and a central part of our little online community. Curse and Fate of Fire is a monumental achievement, and you should be so endlessly proud of all that you've accomplished. It's a little strange to think about how quickly this past year has gone, but I can't wait to see everything you accomplish with this next one. It's no secret that I love Curse, and it's no secret that Darkmoon is one of my favourite characters. I love her relationship with Moonpaw (the angst!!!), so I just had to draw something to commemorate that. Moreso, the Bonding ceremonies and rituals that you described to me the other day instantly reminded me of the 'Red String of Fate' story, which binds two destined lovers together, no matter what the circumstances. So, I just had to draw you a mini comic starring Darkpaw and Moonpaw.I hope you enjoy it <3The Red String of Fate I wish I had the time to colour it properly, rather than this simple sketchy style, but unfortunately I just ran out of time. I will definitely colour it properly in the future, so keep an eye out for it! This was only supposed to be three pages long, but our Guardian of the Crossroads just had to make an appearance - and she ended up being somewhat bestial. I wanted to make her kind of ethereal and mysterious, but she somehow ended up a little darker than I intended. There's some sabretooth cat influencing her design a little bit XDI'm pretty sure Moonpaw is supposed to be pure white, but for some reason I always pictured her with Van markings, hence the coloured ears and tail. She's taller and sleeker than Darkpaw, who is rather fluffy. I like to imagine, too, that she keeps a little shrine to Moonpaw on a mountain lookout, because she thinks her lost love would have liked the view. And of course Moonpaw's spirit visits Darkpaw/moon, and she does her best to give some measure of comfort. Here's to another year of wonderfulness. Keep on being you, Shadow. Keep on creating. Keep on inspiring. I can't wait to see the results <3xoxo, Dingo

Oh my god this is so touching and beautiful and perfect ;-; You've been so supportive of me over the last few years. You've done so much for me. You too have brought me up when I was down or feeling not good enough. You encouraged me and cheered me on.
And darn you, Dingo. You make me want to re-visit these two. <3
I imagine both of them having a conversation: Darkmoon looking back on the past and feeling only half full or half there without Moonpaw, and then Moonpaw comes in and tells her that it's not true and she can't possibly believe that because that is not who Darkmoon is. Darkmoon is constantly looking ahead, keeping the memories of the ones in the past alive through her words, thoughts and actions. Moonpaw is reminding her of that. It's so special. <3
Thank you for this, for giving me this piece of Darkmoon. <3

Im so glad you like it <3 <3 Drawing for you is always a pleasure, because it helps me give some love and inspiration back.
I’d love to see some more Darkpaw/Moonpaw stuff! The Crimson Bloom is probably my favourite one-shot
I read this quote recently about how people stop searching for their ‘other half’ because they realise they were already whole and didn’t need another person to complete them, and I can imagine a similar conversation taking place. I imagine Darkpaw being so hung up on her failure to save her love’s life and lamenting about her missing parts, but Moonpaw keeps appearing to reassure her that she doesn’t need Moonpaw to be strong, because she had that figured out on her own. Darkpaw vows to better herself, and makes Moonpaw prouder each passing moon.

Bonus round! I found a little snippet of something I wrote for the last Curse Marathon! Since it fits nicely with the mini-comic, have some alternate universe Dark x Moon fluff. The idea I wanted to explore was ‘what if Moonpaw lived?’. I realised pretty soon though that if Moonpaw lived, Darkmoon’s Curse would never have been awakened, and much later, Tempestkit would have died...
—-
Had fate been different, had fate let her live, her warrior name would have been Moonfire. Darkpaw, her Darkpaw, with all her finely tuned, pedantic skill, becomes Darkstorm.
They take their names as the sun goes down, bathing the mountain camp in a blood red light. Perhaps a more superstitious cat would have taken it as a bad omen, but she, unlike Darkstorm, does not look to omens and signs to guide her path. Instead, she vows to forge her own.
Had fate been kinder, they would have faced their vigil side by side. Darkstorm takes it seriously and started out across the empty expanse of the mountainside, her posture perfect. Moonfire, however, settles comfortably beside her and gazed up at the sky. She would have liked to talk, but she knows her companion well enough to know that the dark warrior will not break her vow of silence.
Had fate been kinder, that morning, with the sun high in the sky, they would have wandered sleepily into the warriors den, Darkstorm struggling to keep her eyes open, and chosen nests side by side. Over time, their twin piles of moss would have merged into one, cohabiting in perfect harmony. Soon, it would become impossible to tell who originally owned what moss.
Had fate been kinder, she would have become one of MountainClan's best hunters. Her ability to find prey in even the worst of conditions will be praised by warriors far older than she, her excruciating patience recognised by all clans, not just her own. She would have been a hunter. Darkstorm would have been a fighter. They move in perfect harmony, two sides of the same coin, the moon and it's opposite face.
Had fate been kinder, she would have been part of the patrol that fetches two mischievous kits back to camp, after one falls from a cliff. She would have walked beside Eaglekit, her tail draped across his shoulders, and offered calming words of wisdom. The kit is distraught, convinced his companion is dead.
Had fate been kinder, she would have run from an avalanche with the rest of her clan. Fate begins to catch up, however, as she falls behind her clanmates. She can't outrun the shadows of the mountain, and she doesn't see the tree that falls. It would have pinned her, crushing the bones in her tail. Darkstorm won't have noticed - not until much, much later, when it it far too late to turn back. Instead, it would be Sunblaze who helps, who wedges her shoulder under the pine tree and levers it up. It would have been Sunblaze who risks her life to save Moonfire's. She would have run, dragging her injured tail behind her, but she would have lived. Darkstorm would have curled around her while she sank her teeth into branch while the Medicine Cat amputates her tail. She would scream to the mountains, in pain, but grateful to be able to bear the pain of the living.
Had fate been kinder, her hunting skill would have slowly waned, her balance neatly cleft from her body by some unseen force of nature. She would have been, however, of no less value to her clan. She would have become a mother figure, a level head, a source of emotional support from which all cats draw strength. Darkstorm would be proud - she wouldn't say it, but Moonfire can sense it, simmering just below the surface.
Had fate been kinder, they would have become twin mentors to twin sisters; Blackpaw would have been her first, and she would have been determined to shape her into the best warrior she can be. Blackpaw would have confided in her, confessed all her worries. Moonfire would have confronted Shadowpaw on her behalf and would retreat, stung, when the dark tortoiseshell lashes out.
Had fate let her live, seasons later, a tiny blue-grey kit named after a storm would have died.
