[ ι. cαssι∂ү αη∂яεωs, ριεcε σηε: ∂ση'т gσ ] [ warnings: some violence, one character death ]
She hooks her arms under his, snaps at Cameron and bares her teeth when he doesn't move fast enough to grab Gale's feet. Her brother nearly growls in response, both of their inner wolves jumping to attention, but he backs down, goes even faster. Together, the two of them drag Gale's body as quiet as they can, afraid of being noticed, and make their way to the relative safety of the pack house.
When they shove their way through the door, Cassidy is quick to lay the bleeding form of her fiancé on the couch. "Caylee!" She calls, and her younger sister appears in the hallway doorframe with big, scared eyes, and the look on her face when she sees Gale is nothing short of terrified.
"Help him," Cassidy says, somewhere between a demand and a plea. Their family genetics have always been strong, and it's never been more obvious than now that Cassidy comes from a line of Alphas. There's something strong and stormy in her face, but there's also a sheen of pure terror in her eyes. It matches the look on Caylee's, especially at the red stains on her clothes.
Wordlessly, Caylee came around to the other side of the couch, snapping into a more focused mode, the kind that only comes with detachment, as she pulled out the medicinal kit from under the coffee table and started grabbing gauze, trying to wrap any of Gale's wounds as fast as she could. From a healer's standpoint, she knew her own knowledge was limited, and his injuries were probably too far gone to care, but from the side of her that was supposed to be Gale's future sister-in-law, she knew she had to try.
Cassidy, swallowing the bile in her throat, leaned in to brush some of the hair from Gale's forehead. He was sweating, and writhing a little, especially when they started to wrap bandages tight around his injuries. "Shh, it's okay," she soothed, when he let out a pained grunt. "I- I'm here, you're going to be okay, yeah? Stay calm, honey."
"Don't- don't let the boys in here," Gale said, coughing. "I- I don't want them to see me like this."
"I won't," she promised. "It's okay."
"Cass, I- I'm sorry," he whispered, in that horrible way that people sound when they know they're dying. "I'm sorry, pretty girl, I don't think- I don't think I'm going to make it out of this one."
Cassidy flinched, visibly affected by his words. "Don't say that," she replied, voice firm. "You are strong, and brave, and wonderful, and I love you. You will make it out of this."
"Cass-"
"Please," she begged. "Please. The boys and I, we're your family. We need you."
"I don't- I don't want to leave you," Gale replied. "I- God, if I could- could be with you forever, my whole life, I would. Be- Believe me, baby, I would. But I-"
His sentence was cut off as he started hacking, one hand trying to come up to cover his mouth. Halfway there, though, his arm went limp, falling over the side of the couch and hanging there, his knuckles brushing the carpet. Cassidy held back a sob, reaching down to wrap her fingers around his, pulling their interlocked hands up to rest against her chest.
"I love you," he choked out. "And T-Tommy and little Gale. And your brother a-and your sister and your dad. I- I love you, and... and our family."
"I love you, too, you idiot," Cassidy murmured, leaning in closer until the hair fallen from her ponytail brushed arm of the couch. "And that's why you have to be okay. We're- you're barely twenty-two, we're- you're too young for this. You have to stay here, you have to stick around. What about the boys, what about our life together? Gale, we're supposed to be getting married."
"I know," he mumbled. "I- I couldn't wait to be married t-t-to you. I al-always wanted to be y-your husband."
"No," she said. "No. You do not get to say that to me right now. This is- this is not happening!"
By now, her voice had taken on a hysterical sort of tone, and Gale did his best to flex his fingers, wrapping them tighter around her own. "T-t-tell the boys I-I loved them until the- the end. I-I loved you until the end."

[ ιι. ∂εvση ωнεℓαη, ριεcε σηε: αη sρéιя ηα нσícнε ]
Devon has a memory, a clear memory, of sitting across from her father at some tender age, maybe six or seven. He was still fairly young, only a few wrinkles to note here or there, but his red hair was already starting to go silver. He placed a hand on her shoulder, kind and warm, the same way he always was, and he smiled.
"Iníon, listen to me when I tell you this," he told her, his voice heavy with the accent it carried, that same one he brought over to America from his homeland. "You are a réalta, the brightest in an spéir na hoíche, and you have to promise me that you will never let anyone dim your lionnir, okay?"
"Yes, Papa," she agreed, nodding her head, a small and childlike smile on her face to go along with the confusion in her eyes. "I promise."
He pats on the head once, smoothing the hair from her forehead back. In response, her grin broadens, white teeth flashing in display as her head tilts up, almost reminiscent of a preening, happy cat. He laughs.
"Is breá liom tú, mo réalta," he says.
"Is breá liom duit, freisin, daidí," she echoes.
translations [to the best of my ability]: [ iníon - daughter ] [ réalta - star ] [ an spéir na hoíche - the night sky ] [ lionnir - shine, light ] [ is breá liom tú, mo réalta - i love you, my star ] [ is breá liom duit, freisin, daidí - i love you, too, dad ] [ if you actuallu can speak irish, please shoot me a pm to correct this, or to let me know it's correct!! ]
