DarkpawDarkpaw nodded in cautious agreement, although doubt flickered in his eyes like a dying fire in the nightβs rain. βYou must be right then,β he said. βI must be decent at something or another.β He heard footsteps, and deciding they were his own imagination tricking him he didnβt look around. But after a while the footsteps grew closer and slower, and he looked around to see a figure on its hind legs with forepaws like fleshy spiders. βIs that...?β he asked to Sedgepaw, his heart leaping to his throat as he began to slowly back away.

ThistlefireIf there was anything Thistlefire especially loved about Clan life, it was the boasting he could do. Sure, his sister Oakwater was tired of him for it by now, and his father Snakeclaw seemed to refuse he even existed (Thistlefire recalled that just the other day he had referred to his two children- Oakwater and a kit that had been never been born due to his motherβs death in childbirth), but it did at the least help his own confidence. He loved the feeling of moonlight on the back of his pelt, wild and untamed yet serene and soft. He loved the rain hitting in droves upon the city with its greenish tint as it created a symphony of pattering, making him appear like an unkillable flame as it drenched his thick hide. And most of all, he loved the city itself- how it bustled with activity in the morning and the evening, and how the lights in the skyscrapers looked enough like stars that he considered it a suitable replacement for what he had been told about the forestβs stellar night sky, and how easy it could be to scavenge for food. He often did not know why cats would prefer living in a forest anyway.
(I know I was going to rp Thistle with someone so here's a starter for that)

Fogkit puffed his chest out as Gorseflight poked his head into the nursery, looked around, and left. The warrior didn't say anything but Fogkit was proud that the older warrior got to see him playing with the leader. It was really cool because Fogkit didn't see Jackdawstar playing with many kits so he and Mistykit must be special. Either that, or his mother was really really really injured. Fogkit felt sick for a second but pushed it away and went back to playing with Jackdawstar. "It's not a worm!" Fogkit said, as of agreeing with Jackdawstar. "You're a worm," he said to his sister. It was supposed to be some kind of insult, though he wasn't sure what it meant. "It's a snake! We killed a snake! We're the best hunters," he said, taking his own turn to pounce on the leader's tail. He batted at it with his little gray paws. Fogkit nodded at his reply, looking slightly disappointed that Jackdawstar wasn't going to be his new playmate. But then he brightened at the idea of being an apprentice. "I'm gonna be leader one day, so I think you should mentor me," he said, puffing out his chest. He knew the chances of getting the leader to mentor him were slim but he would still try. "And make Sedgepaw a warrior so that Stormstrike can mentor Mistykit." *** Willowstorm didn't want Kestrelclaw to feel guilty. He hadn't done anything wrong. He was just being a warrior when he disappeared to hunt and she was thankful that he did his job instead of constantly hovering around the nursery to watch his mate and kits. If anything, it was her fault. Gorseflight had even offered to come along with her and she should've accepted it. She was still out of shape from being in the nursery for so long, and she should've realized she couldn't fight something off alone. But she didn't talk about who was to blame. She just focused on the feel of Kestrelclaw being so close and his scent around her. It was such a sweet scent, one that brought feelings of comfort and safety. "But you're okay," she pointed out. She'd be heartbroken if Kestrelclaw had gotten injured trying to protect her. Though maybe neither of them would be terribly injured if they'd fought it together. She buried her face in his warm fur, giving him a small lick and trying to remind him that everything would be okay even if she didn't know whether or not it would be okay. She nodded as he made his promise. "And I won't do anything so stupid ever again. I love you, Kestrelclaw, and I promise that I'll be smarter..." If she got the chance. The future of her leg echoed in her head... It may never be healed. She may never get a chance. aether

SNOWFEATHER | Big Park | Eaglestrike ashfeather
Snowfeather tensed slightly at the prospect of training. While she did believe it would be beneficial - for her own sake, should she ever be caught in a dangerous or odd situation - she was hesitant. The grass would get tangled in her fur and she'd have to groom it again. Her paws were so delicate, she'd hate it if pulled a claw or something. Yet, he had so very kindly offered to help her and she was without a doubt that she needed some more training. If only she'd listened more as an apprentice... With the afternoon sun warming her pelt, she gave him a firm nod. "That sounds good to me!" She mustered up all of her enthusiasm. In theory she didn't mind training, but in practice it held so many little issues that only she would have.
She waved her fluffy tail in the air and looked at Eaglestrike, "Where should we start?" She asked. She knew some basics, but hardly much at all.
EAGLESTRIKE | Big Park | Snowfeather
Eaglestrike simply dipped his head in response; he was glad she had agreed, but he was also never the enthusiastic type, so he didn't show any sudden burst of energy at her reply. He knew that she didn't enjoy training, or rather anything to do with getting her paws a little dirty, so he was grateful that she had agreed. It was important that all their warriors weren't afraid of battle in case of a sudden attack in which they might have to defend themselves. After all, a clan is only as strong as its weakest member.
He positioned himself directly in front of Snowfeather so that the pair were facing each other, and tilted his head slightly to one side, "Do you feel you have any particular weaknesses? Anything skills you want to improve?" Because he hadn't seen her in battle before, it was hard for Eaglestrike to gauge what in particular they needed to work on, so he hope that she had some idea herself. If not, he figured he would just go through the basics.

Stormstrike knew he wasn't the best hunter, but that didn't stop him from feeling disappointed whenever he failed to catch something. Maplebreeze and Willowstorm were both better hunters than him. Willowstorm was probably the best out of the three siblings. Maplebreeze was somewhere in between, decent at both fighting and hunting. And Stormstrike? Well, he was more of a fighter than anything. It showed in his scarred pelt and rippling muscles. So he didn't really respond to Cherrywhisper's words, knowing that he just had to improve his skills. Some of the new warriors and Apprentices hunted better than him and that's what Stormstrike considered a problem. The dark gray tom watched as she crouched down low in pursuit of her prey. While he was normally a competitive cat, he found himself silently urging her on. Maybe it was because she wasn't as arrogant or obnoxious as some of the cats in their clan, but Stormstrike found himself really wanting the best for her. He held his breath when he saw her leap after the pigeon, but he released it when he saw her deliver the killing blow. He had a bit of a smile on his face when she returned with the bird and then he looked at the pile of prey they'd managed. "Should we head home before there's too much to carry?" he asked. "I'm not sure we need to be counting it up to see who won," he added playfully. Stormstrike knew that Cherrywhisper had won, but he also planned on assigning her to the dawn patrol anyway - it'd be a pleasure to have her accompany him. He also planned on dragging Sedgepaw along. Maybe one of the other mentor and Apprentice pairs as well... He'd have to see who's available. He grabbed as much of the prey as he could carry and waited for Cherrywhisper to grab the rest. ashfeather CHERRYWHISPER | Small Park | Stormstrike
Cherrywhisper couldn't help but notice a hint of a smile on Stormstrike's face as she approached - although she wasn't all too sure whether she was just imagining or not given how serious the deputy normally was. But the thought was the cherry on top of her now happy mood, and her smile remained on her face. Surprisingly, she had enjoyed this small hunting patrol with the deputy, even though she had been somewhat skeptical of how it would play out earlier in the afternoon. She enjoyed the fact that while he didn't attempt to force a conversation, they were still able to make small talk without her feeling awkward.
She nodded at his question, her eyes scanning over their small pile; they had been extremely successful today. One of the reasons why she enjoyed hunting so much was because she was good at it, and she knew that it was the best way for her to help her clan. She wasn't much of a fighter and was of little help in battle, but here in the various parks across the city, she actually thrived and felt of use to her clan. She was the opposite of her brother, Eaglestrike, in that sense, who was as good at fighting as she was hunting. They made a good pair, in that way, the two littermates contributing to the clan in contrasting ways.
"Hhm, it does seem pretty close though, hey?" Cherrywhisper said with a small laugh, her tone airy and light despite knowing that she had most probably won. The competition hadn't really been at the forefront of her mind in all honesty, and while she of course found some satisfaction in winning, the fact that they had both been relatively successful pleased her more. At the end of the day, the competition had only played as a motivating factor to achieve that main aim.

NETTLEFANG | Camp | Ivyleaf
Nettlefang sat by the edge of the camp, staring out into the city. He'd spent his life on the streets until he was adopted into the clan, and each day he felt as though he had to prove himself. That he was loyal to his clan. That he didn't want to return to those cold, dark, and dirty streets that served as his home when he was a young tom. In the early morning, in which he'd been awake for a few hours already, some dew stuck to his pelt and his paws were wet with it. He flicked his whiskers, and glanced around as cats slowly came out of their dens and started to eat the food leftover from the last hunts the day before, or started to give themselves a morning groom, or even greeted each other with morning pleasantries. He ducked his head a little shyly as others walked around him, they weren't unfriendly, because many would nod to him with smiles. It was he who was quiet and he who seemed uninterested in conversation. As some went out on patrols, he watched them trudge down the slope and deeper into the city. The siamese tom glanced to the side and found his crystal blue eyes landing on the tabby she-cat known as Ivyleaf. He stared at her for a moment, then looked away quckly when he felt his cheeks heat up with embarrassment from having stared. He wasn't too good at interacting socially, mostly because he didn't know what to say, which led him to feeling awkward. He did, though, get up and approached Ivyleaf slowly. In that morning, he didn't want to be alone the whole time. He did talk, he was a clan member, he just... was still warming up. "Good morning, Ivyleaf," he meowed with a little crack in his voice - they were the first words he'd spoken in some time. "Sleep well?" He smiled sheepishly. He felt sheepish. He felt awkward and sheepish. I should have just stuck to my spot and not said anything, his emotions were confusing! ivyleaf33
RABBITSPRING | Campe | Batblossom
Rabbitspring grinned widely, his eyes bright, "Great! Let's go," he flicked his tail as a gesture for Batblossom to follow, and he walked with a spring in his step and his tail flowing back and forth in the air. Not much got this tom down, and he was happy to spread his aimless optimism with a tom who, while he didn't interact with him often, he'd seen enough to notice that he wasn't one to interact much. Rabbitspring didn't invite Batblossom to hunt simply based on the idea of helping Batblossom feel better, but simply because he was the first cat who reached his gaze. Rabbitspring didn't go too far away from camp, with only the two of them, he didn't want to risk potential trouble that the Big Park usually held. Instead, he stuck to the smaller park where the water fountain was spouting water in the centre of it. There certainly wasn't as much prey there as there was in the Big Park, but there were enough pigeons and squirrels to catch something each. "What do you like? Squirrels or pigeons?" He asked suddenly, glancing at his shy comrade, "I like squirrels. I like chasing them into the trees, and I like eating them too," he looked amused, then turned to Batblossom. The lithe tabby tom turned his gaze up for a moment and noticed the grey clouds that were starting to form in the sky. They'd have to be quick before the rain sent the critters to their nests. beefsmoothie
SEDGEPAW | Big Park | Darkpaw
Feeling like she had, somewhat, gotten through to Darkpaw - Sedgepaw felt accomplished. She'd take him under her extremely optimistic and sometimes outrageous wing. The twoleg came up from behind Darkpaw, but Sedgepaw saw it coming. One moment it wasn't there, and the next, they approached with arms outstretched. The strange, hairless creature had it's eyes fixated on Darkpaw. "T-twoleg!" She almost couldn't find her footing to run in the muddy bank around the pond, but when she did, she was ready to take off. She did pause for a moment, just to turn back to Darkpaw, "Run! Don't let em touch you!" She'd heard many stories of twolegs scooping up clan cats, and then they were never seen again. She had never been close to a twoleg before, she was spontaneous and adventurous, but she had a healthy fear of the twolegs. She turned back around and took off again, her tail streaming behind her.
@redheartofriverclan
KESTRELCLAW, JACKDAWSTAR, MISTYKIT | Nursery/Medicine Cat Den | Willowstorm, Fogkit
Jackdawstar noticed Gorseflight duck his head in, and the leader gave him a small nod. These kits were being a pawful and he felt just about ready to ask someone else to watch them while he went and, uh, did some other very important things. He twitched his ears as Mistykit rolled into his tail and dug her teeth into his skin, even when he flicked his tail away, she pounced back onto it. It reminded of being an apprentice, when his littermate would do the same - though his sister wasn't alive anymore. It was a strange nostalgic feeling. It felt like it had been moons before Kestrelclaw's head poked through the nursery entrance and his sad green eyes turned to his two kits.
"Did you two want to come and see Willowstorm now?" He asked as though they hadn't been waiting that whole time to do that exact thing. Mistykit was at the entrance in what could have been a flash, her grey pelt fluffed.
"Can we finally see her now?" She squeaked with eyes wide, and she looked to Fogkit, "Let's go see Willowstorm!" She sounded excited. Kestrelclaw let his gaze slip to the floor. Nothing about him was excited. But he knew that he couldn't avoid this moment. More than anything, his little family needed all the support they could give each other.
Jackdawstar stood up straight with a solemn look on his face and he nodded slowly, "How is she?" He asked softly to Kestrelclaw, who forced back the slightest of smiles.
"It'll take some time..."
He gathered his kittens and led them towards the medicine cat den, but Mistykit's excitement was too much to be contained, and she raced ahead. "I'm coming Willowstorm! I'm coming!"
She burst into the den and stared at her mother, curled up with her leg braced but still angled in a way that didn't seem natural - even to the small she-kit. She tilted her head in confusion, "What's wrong? Why isn't it fixed?" She asked with a small squeak. Kestrelclaw entered the nursery behind them, his head down.
SNOWFEATHER | Big Park | Eagletalon The white she-cat watched Eagletalon step in front of her and she stared at him with determined eyes. The fluffy she-cat wasn't a threatening target to anyone, so she'd never had much trouble, but it could be any moment that something happened and she would need to show her claws. And without training, she'd not have anything to show for it. She thought back to the last time she had her claws out - a training session as an apprentice, before she earned her warrior name. She had been fighting with Doveheart - then Dovepaw - and she'd been easily overpowered. Really, she was clumsy when it came to moving, she would send her body into a fight but not know what to do with it. She'd flash her claws around like a fish out of water. "I think... I need to work on my footwork, and... knowing the best way to strike something." She knew she was easy to overpower, but that wasn't a be-all and end-all for her. There were many others with the same problem, so they used their footwork and finesse to move in, strike, step back, dodge, strike, dodge, jump, strike, and so on. She'd seen others do it, but never had the opportunity to try and perfect it herself. Her sister, although she didn't look like much, was tough - she moved head on into battle. Snowfeather had tried to be just like her but... well, everything had turned out the way it did. ashfeather

ChesterChester never enjoyed the stale smell of his housefolkβs apartment. It was safe and warm, yes, but terribly dull and stuffy. They were a nice family, yes, but they werenβt his companions so much as they were his feeders- they often left him alone at the windowsill, with his only companions being a battered toy mouse with the vague, manufactured smell of catnip and the crack in the wall (Chester often imagined that this was caused by a lion or tiger, or some other kind of wildcat, he knew however that this was not the case by simple logic but liked to pretend anyway) that was semi-covered by the dirty blue wallpaper with the purple flowers. The lights had been off for a while now, the only light being the sun filtering through. They had left for a few days and had had a strange-smelling Twoleg replenish his food bowl, although it didnβt affect Chester much. His Twolegs seemed to only have him there to match their striped ginger curtains, after all. The visiting Twoleg, however, had made a mistake: The door to the halls was open. Cautiously, Chester peeked his small head out, and then bounded down the apartment halls (old, bronze, and worn, with the smell of an old theater), feeling the dirtied red carpet under his pawpads. He sped down a seemingly endless dark stairway before bolting out the apartment lobby- he had been there on another escape attempt a few days prior, but was stopped by the Twoleg at the front desk), and into the sunlight, hearing Twolegs call out after him. His name had been known there for his escape attempts, moreso than the other cats in the lobby, and he had only lived there for roughly four moons- but he was swifter and quicker than Twolegs, with four feet instead of two, and sped off, grinning as the freedom of fresh air fell around him in an autumn breeze. He had heard of the wild cats who roamed the city as their home- and he envied them for being able to feel that freedom every breath of their life.

Fogkit was enjoying his time playing with Mistykit and Jackdawstar. His two playmates were allowing him to forget his worries about his mother. Willowstorm would be alright. She had Kestrelclaw and two very trustworthy medicine cats. What did Fogkit need to worry about? However, when he saw his father enter the nursery, he left Jackdawstar in a hurry and ran up to the tom, smiling up at him. "We can see her?" he asked, his eyes wide. He wanted to see his mother more than anything to see that she was okay. Then he knew Mistykit would feel better too when she saw that their little adventure hadn't caused any serious problems. Plus, they likely wouldn't even be punished because the shock of what had happened had already been very hard on the two young cats. He chased after Mistykit when she rushed ahead of her father and brother. Willowstorm was resting in the medicine cat den, her shoulders slumped in exhaustion. All she wanted to do was sleep, but she knew she'd have to stay awake to see her babies. They had to be so excited to see that she was okay. But she wasn't okay. She wasn't ready to let them know that and she didn't know how to tell her kits, but she would deal with that later. Now, she had to little gray fluff balls speeding towards her and she forced a smile onto her face. She grabbed Fogkit because he was close and pulled the tiny tom to a spot between her two front paws. She began to lick him, much more gentle than when she had been trying to wake him up after pulling him out of the river. When she heard Mistykit's question, Willowstorm felt her heart breaking. Her kits didn't know about her uncertain future and she planned to keep it that way until they knew for sure that her leg was never going to heal correctly. "Come here, Mistykit," she said, nudging Fogkit. The tom moved over so there was room for both of her kits between her front paws. She adjusted her position, wincing slightly when her leg was jostled too much. "My leg is going to take some time to heal," she warned them, glancing over at Kestrelclaw. "But you two will be Apprentices by the time it's all better and I promise I'll take you guys out, if your mentors let me, and all four of us can go hunting together," she said, glancing at her mate once again. The thought was amazing, but she knew it might never actually happen. aether

KESTRELCLAW, MISTYKIT | Medicine Cat Den | Willowstorm, Fogkit
Mistykit bounced forward into her mothers paws, she let out a little purr and rubbed her fuzzy pelt against her mothers soft one. She could tell something wasn't right, not just from the look of her leg, but from the sad look of her father, and the tired optimism from her mother. She glanced between them, then to Fogkit. Though, she did perk up at the idea of becoming an apprentice and hunting with her family, her green eyes brightened up. "Yeah, when you're better! We'll hunt!" She grinned to her mother.
Kestrelclaw stepped closer and best to touch his nose to Fogkit's head, then Mistykit's. The he swiped his tongue gently of Willowstorms ears. He knew his kits didn't really understand, but he didn't expect them too. Bringing them in was more of an exercise to end their nerves about the situation rather than anything else. "I can't wait," his voice was a little sad, but it was soft and quiet. Mistykit hardly noticed him say it.
Kestrelclaw felt that pang again - he wanted to turn back time. To stay in camp. To help his mate. The white tom took a deep breath. "Well, you two," he looked to the two little one's between Willowstorm's paws, "we can't stay in here too long - Willowstorm needs her rest if she wants to get better." His voice was firmer now. Mistykit let out a disappointed mrr in reply.
