 The sun is relentless as your tired paws carry you towards the river. The dry season has left it shallow and somewhat muddy, but there is still enough water to quench your thirst. You crouch down on the bank, watching carefully for the subtle movements of potential predators as you drink. From the other side of the river you hear voices and the loud rustling of grass, and a moment later a small group of cats emerges from the undergrowth. You lift your head, intending to greet them, but your voice fails you as a young gray tom breaks away from the group and charges across the river, picking his way quickly through the shallows. He stops a few tail lengths from you, fur bristling as he sniffs in your direction.
"You don't smell of any Clan I know of," He snarls after a moment. "This part of the river is for Clan cats." He takes a step towards you, claws unsheathed, but a brown tabby she-cat steps forward, halting him with a growl.
"Jackalpaw, don't be rude," She says in a scolding tone. "If this cat has come so far into Clan territory, they must be here to join us." She gives you a knowing look, gracefully dropping down into the shallow water and looking you up and down. "Yes, I think you'll do nicely. So what'll it be? Are you going to join, or am I going to have to run you out of our territory?"

R U L E S ➤ The Dread Codeword
Due to problems I've had in the past with people joining my roleplay without reading anything, we have a codeword. More than one, actually. Scattered throughout the main posts like sprinkles dropped on the kitchen floor. And because I'm a petty person who's sick of people joining things without knowing what's going on, if your form does not have the right codeword, it will be denied.
➤Politeness
If you're excessively rude, use profanity or slurs of any kind, or deliberately ignore instructions by me, your mod, you will be banned and will not be allowed to return. No exceptions.
➤Literacy
Replies must be well written, and while we don't have a set line length I would like you to try to match the post you're replying to if you're able.
➤Realism
Obviously, reality can be bent slightly when dealing with fantasy. That does not mean, however, that your cat can catch eight field mice in one go, or defeat a lion. If you've made it this far, the codeword is your favorite movie, book, or cartoon.
➤Activity
I'm an understanding person. If you're going to be without Internet for a while, or you're buried in school work, or you just don't have the motivation to roleplay at the moment, just let me know. If you fail to get on and actually roleplay (as opposed to popping in and saying hi) for a week without providing a reason beforehand, your characters will be removed. You can rejoin one time if you've been removed for this reason.
➤Cat Behavior
If your cat disobeys their leader, mentor, or superiors, or breaks the warrior code or Rhinostar's code they WILL be punished. There is no "Oh but Examplepaw is special everyone loves her too much to punish her." If you think that about your character, chances are I hate them and will not feel bad about them being punished. There are also no apprentice queens, mary-sues, or characters with sob story backgrounds allowed. If you've read this far, the codeword is your favorite color.
➤Cat Stealing/ Raiding
We don't do it here. Take it somewhere else. You will be asked to leave, and if you continue to try to make it happen your posts will be ignored and I will be speaking with the mod of your roleplay.

T R A D I T I O N S ➤ Nesting
Nesting is an old tradition taken from the lions with whom the Clans share the savanna. Female lions give birth well away from their pride to protect their newborn cubs from aggressive males and older, stronger cubs, and will only rejoin the pride when their young are two moons old. Queens of the Clans have little to fear from their Clanmates, but still leave the Clan to give birth to ensure that only the strongest kits live to become warriors. Queens who are close to giving birth will leave camp and find a nest of their own, the location of which is usually only known to the medicine cat. They may nest anywhere, even in another Clan's territory, and during this time it is forbidden for any cat but a medicine cat to disturb them. If the kits survive their first moon, the queen may then return to the Clan, and a ceremony takes place to honor her strength and celebrate her kits.
➤ The Great Migration
The movements of the migratory herds are considered sacred to the Clans, and while they are entering or leaving the reserve all conflict must cease. Normally, the herds enter the reserve at the beginning of the dry season and leave at the beginning of the wet season. Watching the herds cross the river is an incredible sight, and if relations between the Clans are good when the herds move, leaders may take their Clans to watch the spectacle. Many mentors will take their apprentices out to see the crossing regardless of relationships between the Clans, as it is a prime example of the necessity of life and death in the savanna.
➤Apprenticeship
For the Clans of the savanna, apprenticeship is not simply the time when young cats learn to hunt and fight. It is the time when they begin to learn about life, both inside and outside of their Clan. For this reason, kits may be apprenticed as early as five moons, though they may not be involved in battles or planned skirmishes for another moon. If you've read this far, the codeword is your favorite season.
C O D E S O F T H E C L A N S The Warrior Code
The Clans of the savanna follow a modified version of the warrior code, with some sections changed or even completely removed.
➤Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet them in battle.Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan's territory.
➤Elders, queens, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders. If any warrior or apprentice is sick or injured, they may eat while the elders, queens, and kits are eating.
➤Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.
➤A kit must be at least five moons old to be apprenticed in times of peace. In times of war, kits must be at least seven moons old.
➤Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.
➤A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.
➤The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies, retires or is exiled.
After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.
➤A Gathering of all three Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among Clans at this time.
➤Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats, with the exception of medicine cats and nesting queens.
➤No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from a different Clan.
➤ An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win his/her battles, unless it is necessary for self-defense.
➤Each Clan has the right to be proud and independent, but in times of trouble they must forget their boundaries and fight side by side to protect the three. Each Clan must help the others so that no Clan will fall
Rhinostar's Code
Rhinostar was a legendary leader of ThornClan, and proposed so many additions to the warrior code that they were compiled into an entirely separate list.
➤No Clan may deny another access to water, unless their supply has reached such a state that a kit of three moons may easily walk across.
➤The main body of the river belongs to all Clans, and no conflict may occur over ownership of it.
➤The Migration is a time of peace. All conflicts must be set aside while the herds are on the move.
➤Queens must give birth away from the Clan, and may only present their kits to the Clan after they have survived their first moon.
➤Queens may nest wherever they wish. No Clan may deny any queen the right to nest in their territory, or disturb her while she raises her kits.
➤Scavenging is forbidden. No cat may eat prey that was not killed in the name of their Clan.
➤At least four cats must be on watch at all times, to alert the Clan to danger.
➤No cat may kill the young of another animal if it is not old enough to flee.
➤Twolegs are not to be trusted. All cats should endeavor to stay out of their sight.
➤The codeword is now your favorite Warriors book.

T E R R I T O R Y This map came pretty well labeled, and the only things that I've had to add are the solid circles, which represent Clan Camps, and the solid square, which represents the Island of Stars. White, red and yellow lines represent trails and roads, and each Clan is represented by a color on the map, with orange for ThornClan, green for SwiftClan, and purple for FeatherClan.
➤ThornClan
The westernmost Clan, ThornClan territory is the least divided by water, but its western border is a busy Twoleg trail that ultimately turns and runs through the territory itself. Luckily, the Twolegs who operate the small monsters that travel the trails are fairly considerate of wildlife.
➤FeatherClan
The furthest south and east, FeatherClan territory contains the most bodies of water, making it somewhat difficult to navigate during the wet season. The trail that runs through their territory sees a lot of activity, making the cats who call the area home experts at getting around without being seen. It contains several clusters of trees, making leopards an occasional problem for the Clan
➤SwiftClan
Though heavily crossed by Twoleg trails and containing a good amount of Twoleg nests, SwiftClan benefits from having the largest territory. The territory is fairly secure, with the Mara River at the front and the reserve fence at the back, and the Clan's camp, located on top of Rhino Ridge, is fairly hard to approach without being seen.
The Island Of StarsLocated in the center of the Clans' territories, this island is situated in a wide section of the Mara River, and even in the wet season it can comfortably hold all of the Clans during a Gathering. The large stones in the middle are used by leaders during Gatherings, but sleeping next to them is also how the Clans communicate with StarClan. The codeword is now your favorite warrior cat.
Camps
➤ThornClan
A large, clear area circled by tall boulders. Dens are made of bramble bushes, with the exception of the medicine cat den, which is a sectioned off clearing, and the leader's den, which is in a large crack in the High Stone.
➤FeatherClan
A clearing located in the fork created by two streams. Dens are woven clumps of reeds, and the leader's den is located inside a large hollow log where meetings are held.
➤SwiftClan
Located in a rocky area, the camp is centered around several old meerkat tunnels, which have been expanded and are now used as dens. The leader holds meetings at the High Rock, and their den is dug out beneath it.
P R E D A T O R S, P R E Y, A N D O T H E R A N I M A L S Predators
➤Lions: Large, dangerous cats that roam the plains in prides. The Masai Mara Reserve has one of the highest concentrations of lions in the country, making them a very serious threat if provoked or hungry.
➤Leopards: Large spotted cats that are very adept at tree climbing and ambush. Cats moving through wooded areas are advised to keep an eye on the overhead branches, as leopards are opportunistic hunters.
➤Hyenas: Spotted, dog-like creatures that move in groups. They are very opportunistic, and will attack a lone cat as readily as they will scavenge a body.
➤Jackals: Small, dog-like creatures that occasionally travel in pairs. They are a more present danger than the bigger creatures in the area, as a cat is the perfect size for a good meal.
➤Birds Of Prey: Ranging from owls to vultures to hawks, these large birds scan the ground from above, looking for an easy meal.
➤Crocodiles: Massive water-dwelling lizards that will attack most things in the water if hungry.
Prey
➤Mice: Common field mice exist almost everywhere, and are a small but easy source of food.
➤Meerkat: A good sized rodent-like creature that, while hard to catch, can easily feed two cats.
➤Hare: Big and fast, a hare is a large meal for any cat sneaky and fast enough to catch it.
➤Dik-Dik: A very small antelope, this tiny creature is slightly larger than the average cat. They are very rarely hunted by cats other than scouts, as more than one cat is required to take them down, and they are too heavy to easily carry back to camp.
➤Hyrax: A small, rodent-like creature, hyrax are an easy catch if one can sneak up on them. They are normally found in rock piles.
Other Animals➤Elephants: Massive, strange looking animals with long trunks, elephants travel in large herds and are extremely intelligent. They are generally unconcerned by the presence of cats, and even tend to travel around camps rather than through them.
➤Giraffes: Tall, long-necked animals that eat leaves from trees. They are generally unbothered by cats, but may cats have lost parts of tails by getting too close.
➤Antelope: Many species of antelope and gazelle live on the plains, but few are concerned by cats.
➤Zebra: Striped horses that travel in large groups. They can be aggressive if approached, but are usually content to live and let live.
➤Rhinos: Large, bulky creatures that travel in small herds. They tend to not care about cats, but will not tolerate any creature approaching their young.

T H O R N C L A N An infamously proud and prickly bunch, ThornClan cats are skilled fighters who dislike having to rely on others for anything. This tends to be a problem, as during harsher droughts they are usually the first Clan that needs to rely on another for water.

A large, broad-shouldered, golden tabby tom with bright green eyes. His muzzle and ears are heavily scarred from many battles, and the tip of his tail is missing due to being tread on by a careless giraffe as an apprentice. Lionstar is a proud, stubborn cat who wants the best for ThornClan, but doesn't care much about the other Clans, though he has a particular dislike for FeatherClan. He and Viperstar have been butting heads since they were young warriors, and their conflict has resulted in blood being spilt between their Clans over the years. He has a soft spot for the younger cats of the Clan, but while he can be compassionate and jovial he is not a cat to be crossed lightly, and he has little patience for disobedient or mouthy cats. Stubborn, prideful, and independent, Owlthorn is the embodiment of all things ThornClan, hence his suffix. Born a she-cat, Owlthorn spent a good portion of his apprenticeship feeling that something just wasn't quite right. At about ten moons, he very nervously confided in his mentor, Nettlecloud, who was very encouraging even after the young tom was no longer her apprentice. Her death hit Owlthorn especially hard, and for several moons after her passing the young tom was not his usual prickly self.
S C O U T S The eyes and ears of the Clan, scout patrols often leave camp for several days at a time as they observe the position of other animals in the territory, and report potential dangers to the Clan to the leader when they return.  Spottedsky:: 26 Moons :: Brindleflight ♀ Spottedsky is a tall, lanky tortoiseshell she-cat with dark green eyes. She has a small splash of white on her chest, and her tail is tipped in white as well. Spottedsky is an excellent scout with vast knowledge of the creatures of the plains, but she tends to be a bit too trusting, and would let almost anyone through the territory if it seemed that they had a good reason. Her father is Lionstar, and it seems that this young she-cat inherited all of her father's compassion and none of his confidence. Cloverpaw is a small, dark gray spotted tabby with a paler underbelly and bright green eyes. She is in training to become a scout, as she is very interested in the wildlife of the plains, and though she isn't unfriendly to her Clanmates she would rather be out on patrol than in camp. F E A T H E R C L A N Clever, witty, and a bit condescending, FeatherClan cats take pride in their ability to swim across the may bodies of water that run through their territory. This does of course mean that more FeatherClan cats are killed by crocodiles than any other Clan, but a true FeatherClan cat will never admit to it.

He is training to become a warrior, and is becoming a skilled fighter, though his impatience makes him a somewhat poor hunter. Emberflight is a dark ginger tabby she-cat with a white chest and underbelly and green eyes. Determined and strong-willed, Emberflight refuses to let anything distract her from being a good mother to her kits, even the recent death of her mate Spiderwhisker. She is currently nesting on the outskirts of the territory, though she will soon be returning to the Clan with her three young kits, Spiderkit, Foxkit, and Graykit.

Spiderkit is a jet black tom with green eyes and a white tail tip. He is very adventurous and curious, and wants to learn everything he can about every new thing he discovers. He constantly tires his mother, Emberflight, out with questions, and is always trying to wander off and explore, much to his mother's distress.

Foxkit is a gray tabby she-cat with dark tabby stripes and green eyes. A serious, clever young cat, Foxkit has little patience for her brother Spiderkit's wandering and daydreaming. She loves to hear stories about the history of the Clans, and when she isn't arguing with Spiderkit she enjoys play-fighting with him.
Graykit :: 1 Moon :: Brindleflight ::♀
Graykit is a small, pale gray she-cat with blue eyes. Calm and easy-going, Graykit is fairly unconcerned with her squabbling siblings, and prefers to stay close to her mother's side.
