Edge of the Stars
From the beginning, Owlpaw felt he was special. From when he was a small kit, he felt as though all was going to be well in life, despite the tragedies that have befallen his clan in their greatest time of need. The only surviving kit of his litter, with a sick mother and a dead father, one would think the young apprentice would collapse under the pressure and expectation of becoming a warrior. Especially in the middle of the second greatest war in clan history. With an alliance between Riverclan and Windclan on the rise and the disappearance of medicine cat apprentices from all clans, Owlpaw discovers that he and three other apprentices are the key to finding the missing cats and settling this pointless feud before more innocent Thunderclan blood is spilled.

Chapter 1~
Part 1 -- Prologue
The forest was cold that evening, even though the sun still had yet to set in the west. It was the beginning of newleaf, green leaves starting to form through the frost and fog. It was quiet, aside from the occasional whistle of wind through branches still cold. A sudden crunching could be heard in the undergrowth, like dead leaves and small twigs snapping, but as soon as it could be heard, the forest once again dropped silent. A flash of dusty brown could then be seen darting around in the grass beneath the trees, only to jump up.
It revealed itself to be a cat, a small tom with a dusty pelt, light colored paws, and bright blue eyes. The tom-cat was trying to hunt, which was evident by the curse which escaped as a hiss from his mouth when the squirrel sc
urried away. He seemed to turn towards something unseen and unheard, looking directly at, it and huffed indignantly.
" You try hunting in a forest with no prey, Owlpaw. See how you like it. " The tom cat flicked his hail and bowed his head, leaning forward into a playful stance as he kept his eyes trained on the spot where who he seemed to be speaking of was. But instead he seemed to be suddenly distracted by something in the sky, the fading sunlight of the sunset seemed to reflect in his clear blue eyes, showing gold flecks and a troubled gaze. " You should get going, you're clan will worry if you do not wake soon. Just remember, Owlpaw, that I will always be here to guide you. "
Owlpaw awoke with a start. He would never get used to the visits from the blue-eyed tom. At first, he figure that the cat was his father, but after a while he seemed to realize that it was not the truth, even though he and the tom looked alike. He then thought it was a Starclan warrior, come to guide him, but as time went on he started to slowly realize that this cat was not even from the clans. Even so, Owlpaw viewed him as a companion in hard times.
Ever since he was a kit, around when his mother had died, he had been visited by the mysterious cat who lived in a ethereal forest not much different than that of his home forest. The only difference was that it was always daytime there when he slept at night, and when he would doze during the day -- the cold, leafbare ridden dream forest was as dark as could be, with only a half moon in the sky. It was always cold, and prey was scarce there, much like it was in the current Thunderclan leafbare.
" Are you going to sit there all day and stare at your moss or are you going to get off of your lazy butt and go on patrol with Robinstep, Honeywater, Redpaw and I, like you were asked last night? " The voice was enough to jolt Owlpaw out of his thoughts, and he looked up to see a pair of slightly narrowed amber eyes gazing at him from the entrance of the apprentices den. Clearly, this cat was annoyed.
" W-willowtail! I'm s-sorry! " The apprentice got to his paws as fast as he could, feeling a rush of dizziness as he almost fell over. " I was j-just about to-to get up. "
There was a snort form the darker brown tom as he shuffled into the den, rather big now to be in there to begin with. He stopped next to Owlpaw, using his tail to gently guide the apprentice into leaning on him for support.
" If it were up to me," Willowtail meowed with a hint of disdain, guiding the apprentice out of the den, " A sick apprentice should be resting with the medicine cats, not going hunting or going on patrol! "
" But I'm the only other apprentice besides Redpaw who doesn't have greencough! We need more warriors! and besides, I volunte-- "
" You volunteered, yes. But, Owlpaw, if you don't rest, your whitecough could become greencough! "
" Like my mother. "
This comment caused Willowtail to drop silent., his tail falling and his pawsteps becoming slower. Owlpaw could tell that his mother's death, even after 4 moons, was still weighing heavy on the tabby warrior. Laurelsong was his littermate after all. They were siblings, and while Owlpaw felt bad for reminding Willowtail of his sister's death, he felt that it was necessary to be brought up.
" I am not my mother, Willowtail. And neither am I my father. I won't let myself get more sick, and nor will I start useless fights for the glory of the clan and leave my family behind. I will stay alive. "
" Brave words, Owlpaw. " Willowtail chuckled softly, and with a flick of his tail he stopped them. " You have a spirit much like your mother did before Stormrunner died. I hope you can upkeep your work like her too. i don't need to loose more family. Now, go pick something off the pile before we go. "
Owlpaw nodded, grateful for the distraction from the topic, and picked out a scraggly rabbit from that was caught, likely on a patrol by the Windclan border. He pulled the rabbit from the pile, and with the help of Willowtail, moved it closer to the edge of the camp clearing. They began to eat in silence shortly afterwards, and the apprentice finished all he would managed to get down. While he waited for Willowtail to finish the bird he'd grabbed, however, Owlpaw looked around camp. The first thing to catch his eye was an all too familiar grey tabby pelt near the medicine den. With him was another familliar cat. A brilliant ginger coat told him that much. It was their leader, Eaglestar, talking with the retired medicine cat. They seemed troubled, so Owlpaw flicked his ears towards them in an attempt to hear their conversation better. He paused, and his eyes widened at what he heard.
--> Patrol with Willowtail and the others and try to forget about what he heard
--> Try to get closer and eavesdrop on the elder and his leader
