By yalls theories I am absolutely screwed all to heck. I have so many illnesses that I'm probably so open to demonic activity I may as well go hang out in the caves like the demonic man that Jesus healed. Well, not necessarily. Seeing as you are a Christian, demons cannot overtake you. You said you were sensitive to demonic activity, but so long as you continue to rebuke them in Christ's name, they've got nothing on you.

Mental illnesses aren't any more of an opening than, like, physical illnesses, imo.

Dunno if any of you are Hunchback of Notre Dame fans. But I think I'm gonna try my hand at recording God Help The Outcasts.
(Would do Topsy Turvy, but alas, no karaoke.)

Oops, sorry for leaving y'all hanging (again). I had to go to dinner and then we started reminiscing about nostalgic times. I ended up re-writing a lot of it and had to add in other parts because I felt like I needed to more fully explain some stuff. Okay here it is:
When we moved to Austin, my parents decided they wanted to build a home. They chose a lot they liked, and we lived in the original house there for about a year before it was finally bulldozed. So we got lucky, and there was house just down the street up for rent; my dad snagged it. We were only suppose to be in it for a year, but it ended up being double that. Let me just say that I never liked it. The house wasn't particularly ugly or cheaply made-- on a structural level, there was nothing wrong. But it was certainly odd. The layout of both levels was exceptionally strange, especially on the ground floor. The rooms felt very cut-off from each other. The living room was sunken, but the floor height difference only added to the claustrophobia. It was poorly designed in terms of space: lots of corners and awkward niches were wasted space. I mention this because I think it added to the over all feeling to the house. I was indifferent at first. But after a few months, I started to get bad vibes from the house. Not sure exactly how to describe it. My sister and Mom noticed that whenever they came back to the house after an away trip, they'd have persistent headaches for days, as if they had an allergy to something in the walls. While I was physically fine, mentally I was...unsure. You know how you walk into a home, and you can sense an aura to it? Some are cozy, or formal, or lazy. Well, the rental just felt wrong to me. Trying to place why specifically would be like explaining why you don't like the taste of a specific food: you just don't. I will say this, however: the atmosphere of the house made me feel vulnerable. I never felt safe in it. Being left home alone is normally something I enjoy, as it allows me to sing at the top of my lungs and talk to myself without judgement; in the rental, it was a different story. The worst was when I was home alone at night. See, my brother often worked evening shifts, and occasionally my parents went out for Dad's business events or dinner, so I was left to fend for myself at home. Even worse was when I walked home from work to an empty, dark house. Previously I mentioned my paranoia problem. Usually, I just feel like I'm constantly being watched by invisible people, and it's been that way for so long that the feeling no longer bothers me. But it was different with this house. I didn't just feel like I was being watched-- I kept seeing things. Just little stuff our of the corner of my sight. Figures in the window reflections that we be gone at a second glance. Slight movement in peripheral vision of shadows. Maybe the atmosphere of the house was getting to me, but regardless of whether I actually saw anything, the house put me on edge. Worst was noises. I'd just be sitting in the study, doing my homework while Mom was running an errand. The study is full of windows and well-lit, you see, and there was no reason I'd be feeling gloomy. But every now and then, I'd hear little sounds from in the house. Most of it was ambiguous: little clicks or the odd stirring of air. Other times it was frighteningly identifiable. Every now and then I'd hear creaks in the ceiling from the upper-story floor of my sister's room, like something was moving up there. Or the door would drift close/open a few inches despite no breeze in the house. Again, it could be that my imagination was coming up with noises to justify my internal paranoia. It's still besides the point-- which is that the house made my paranoia sharper, made me uncomfortable, for some unknown reason. There are two things you must understand about the house layout before I continue. To start, the ground floor is laid out in the traditional pattern: foyer with the stairs in the middle of the house, a narrow hallway flanking it that leads back into the livingroom/kitchen. That means that the stairs lead to a landing, and the hall wraps around it in an L-pattern. The shared bathroom is situated right at the top of the stairs, while my bedroom is on the opposite end by the L-joint. Why is this important? Because you need to picture the room in order to understand my terror. The upstairs hall was void of windows, just walls with doors, and so it was pitch black at night. Even with a night light or phone light, you had the great black gap of the stairs leading to the dark foyer below. It was, in an understatement, unpleasant. Unfortunately for me, my body had the habit of needing to use the restroom in the middle of the night. Sometimes even opening the door to the hallway was a challenge, as I had a dreadful fear that one day I'd open it and find someone outside my door in the middle of midnight. Past that, it was hardly an encouraging view: a very dark hallway, full of doors, with the abyss of the stairs bordering it all. I had to walk to the other end to get to the bathroom. It might be tempting to brush off my experience as being half-asleep and still dreaming, but that's unfortunately not the case. I'd had a hard time sleeping that night, and I had been up for around a half hour before needing to use the bathroom. I was close to wide-awake. I started walking down the hall; I believe I had my phone light on. Out of habit I reached out to grab the banister, as I was apt to do when without a light to help guide myself to the bathroom. I was about 2/3 the way across, just passing the L-joint, when I heard it. Something said my name. This is what I remember: the voice was very clear, not at all muddled. It didn't sound supernatural or loud; more like a man's stage whisper. It sounded as if it were coming from about waist-height, but only about two feet away from me to my right-- creepily, from the space right above the dark nothing of the staircase. Well, naturally, I freaked out. I'm more of a "hyperventilate" rather than the screaming type, so I practically flew across the hall, flipped on the bathroom lights, and locked the door within a few seconds. It was probably half an hour that I remained in there, too scared to come out. Eventually I realized I couldn't spend all night in the bathroom, so I somehow found the courage to open the door. Reminder that the bathroom is at the top of the stairs. So when I opened the door, there was a yawning black void stretched before me, the stairs swallowed up by shadows the bathroom light couldn't dispel. Not sure how I retained any courage after seeing that-- I'm a Slytherin, we're not renowned for our bravery. I bounded across the hall, shut my door, locked it, threw myself into my bed, and immediately wrapped myself in a cocoon of blankets. It took me at least half an hour to even feel sleepy. You better believe I prayed that night. Before I dropped off, I texted my friend about what happened--it was 4am, but I wanted to tell it all before any detail slipped by me. When I awoke, I wondered if I'd dreamed it, but my text history confirmed it was not some wickedly vivid nightmare. I told my parents about it, but there's not much you can do about it, and I'm still not sure they believe I wasn't asleep or imagined it.
That was back in February. We've since moved out of that rental about 3 months ago, and my sharpened paranoia has since gone back to normal (in fact, better than before). I have no idea what was up with that house. Part of being Catholic means I don't believe in ghosts, but demons are a whole 'nother story. Was it actually a demon that was stalking me in that house? I'll never know for sure. All I am certain of is that something whispered my name that night, and it still haunts me. I was terrified out of my wits. I can't think of any logical explanation for what happened. It never happened again, but after that instance, the bad vibes I was getting from that house only increased. I'm glad we're out of it-- we're all glad, none of us particularly enjoyed living there. I just wish I had some answers.

Tbh, there's another instance that I wonder might be related to the aforementioned event, but I'm not certain it was supernatural.
@elle: It could be that the demons haunting you could be cause. Or at least making it worse for you. Mental illness is chemical imbalance, but demons could be the ones causing such imbalance, if that makes sense at all. But I'm hardly an expert on demonic activity.
@ves: Sweet! It's short for Vespertilio, which is Latin for "bat."

@ves: Aw, thank you!! As a writer, that's the compliment I long to hear. I just wish I was as good at telling stories as I am at writing them
@jess: I contemplated it. But the bathroom wasn't particularly cheery either, so staying there was far from appealing. I decided to take my chances and run for the bed. Be glad you've never experienced it. Just talking about it again is making me eye the dark bathroom door right now. I'm going to bed 'cause it's late, but I'll be checking that link out tomorrow!!

I've had a lot of rental demonic experiences. I think when something has a huge turn over of people it has a tendency to have demonic activity. Not sure if it's because it has more access or people do bad things and open it up to demonic activity

Holy crap Shad, that's terrifying. I would have screamed my lungs out and spent the rest of the night with as many lights on as possible. I'm so grateful that I've never had any demonic experiences. Also I'd like to say that you're an awesome writer. My heart was actually pounding as I was reading.

That was an interesting story, thankfully I don't feel as freaked out by it as some of you seem to have been due to similar experiences. I lived in 3 houses that all had bad auras in a row, for many years. And it was terrible so I kind of know your pain.
@jester , nice voice! c:

Hey guys! Noticed that y'all were having a conversation about demons. Yeah, if you want to actually "hear" (read really) about my own personal experiences, I can tell you them. I'm not comfortable sharing it right out blatantly like Shadow. (Btw Shadow, there was a demon in that house. That experience matches many of the similarities of my own. And I am quite certain that I have actually seen demons and angels.)
