Wow. J.K. Rowling made it very subtle. I never would have guessed. And yeah, my grandma is one of those people that didn't allow me to read the books when I was younger because of the witchcraft inside. She didn't want me to get the idea and possibly start doing witchcraft thinking it would be all fun and games like the book/movies. (Just an expression since we all know it's not all fun and games.)

You're very welcome, I'm glad that we could help in some way and that things are calming down.
yeah it's really interesting! But I understand why you weren't allowed to read the books.

Yeah I understand why now as well. I didn't when I was younger. When I first started reading them I got to Goblet of Fire within 2 weeks? She noticed that I developed a big interest in them and got worried, so she had asked me to stop reading them a bit. (I never returned the book, just left it at school so I could continue reading)
I get very invested in books I like and if it's a good one, I just cant set it down.

I got four books on Christmas, and by dinner time at 5:00, I'd read two of them (about 700 pages total) My mom always tells me to slow down and enjoy them. But I'm not rushing, I'm just a fast reader. I even go back and re-read some pages because the plot twist or whatever was so good.

I know another reason why parents think Pokémon is bad. Teaches kids evolution. Im like lol, sitting in my room playing Pokémon with my Christian parents. I see what they mean though.
Also I have some GREAT news. We just got a letter in today about my grandma's old work and she's getting paid for unemployment! We're now just hoping that we will be able to get backpay for all the months that they didn't pay her for. So please keep us in your prayers.

i believe in evolution with divine guidance tbh but yeah i can see that

Yeah it does. And to be honest, I don't see how evolution works? Teacher's explain it's a long process and stuff but.. Like how does it happen? I've come to a conclusion that if there really is evolution, then we are all mutants. Because Im pretty sure you cant genetically change without mutation? Unless there was cross-species mating, and if there was why cant we do that now? So that's my take on evolution.
And thanks Spotted!

i believe in evolution with divine guidance tbh but yeah i can see that I could believe that. But the bible says that he made us in his image, so why would he change that? Animals I could understand but it still doesn't add up to me.

i personally just think that He had a plan for us all along to come out the way we did, and that He guided us along as we evolved. but, catholicism doesn't require you to believe in the creation story, so that's just how i like to look at it it's very possible that creationism basically explains how we're here

i personally just think that He had a plan for us all along to come out the way we did, and that He guided us along as we evolved. but, catholicism doesn't require you to believe in the creation story, so that's just how i like to look at it it's very possible that creationism basically explains how we're here ^^^ basically catholics debate whether the creation story is meant to be taken seriously or whether it is a symbolic story one reason we're not sure is because there's like 3 different creation stories in genesis, and discrepancies between them (i.e. in the "seven days" version, God makes man last. but then later on it says he made Adam first and then the animals to support him) the seven days story, we think, is most likely of the three to be a symbolic allegory. even the way it is worded and put together comes off as a ballad meant to be passed down orally to teach kids about God's power. (think about how easy it is to remember it and repeat it back, just like a nursery rhyme or anecdote). God exists outside of time, he didn't need "seven days". It's likely meant to be an origin story of why the Jewish people had seven days in a week and why they rested on the sabbath and such. the other two stories may or may not be symbolic, as they don't contradict each other as much and the story styles are more serious and complex i personally haven't thought much on which i believe. I think the seven-days creation story is symbolic, but the others could be meant literally. I don't think it matters that much as long as I believe he shaped the human race and gave us souls, as stranger things said

@spott Good! I'm kinda eager to be heading off to college in a few weeks, but it's been ok still being at home
And about evolution, my church believes that Joseph Smith, who we believed to be a modern-day prophet, witnessed God and Jesus Christ with bodies just like us- confirming that we were indeed created in their image. But my church does not approve nor disprove of the evolution of animals- because we believe whether or not they evolved doesn't impact our eternal salvation. But yeah, I believe that mankind- or the bodies of Adam and Eve- were literally created in the image of God- and even though over time, our bodies react and change to the environment- like the variation of skin colors, heights, genetics- I believe that the blueprint of mankind's bodies had a divine source.

I personally don't believe in evolution, but mostly because of the facts I see against it and the human body is so amazingly complex it just doesn't make sense to me for evolution to be correct

Post by Deleted on Aug 22, 2016 15:43:53 GMT -5
It's the start of my second year- so I've gotten pretty comfortable and used to the system and how classes work and such. Plus I love it because it's a private church university- and there are gospel principles taught along with secular subjects. It makes the learning experience a whole lot more spiritual- and motivated me to become more excepting of secular education and to work harder to understand it better. It's definitely been a blessing to go there ^^

@spotted I'd love it if you were to explain it to me later when you don't have to use a phone.
Another thing I have a problem with is radioactive/metric dating and how old the Earth is. Also, how things are fossilized.
