Hey there 🌸 I hope everyone is having a good morning!
I'm not currently a Christian, have never considered myself Christian, and I don't think I have it in me to be a Christian. But lately I've been really interested in it. I've been reading on some websites and about the different dominations, stories, and principles (most of which confuse me, probably because I lack context.). I've also been poking through a bit a lot of this thread as well! Not to sound creepy or anything.
I wouldn't say I'm 'lost' per say, but it is all a bit overwhelming. When reading some of the thread, I noticed you guys are really nice and knowledgeable about your faith! No obligation of course, but I was wondering if I could ask a question or two? I'm still researching and trying to understand on my own, but there's some things that are a bit hard for me to understand since I have hardly any church background (I have been to bible camp, but that's it- and I honestly feel cheated since there's SO much to learn and yet they just made us watch Veggie Tales instead :/.).
(I'm genuinely interested, so hopefully I don't come across as like, antagonistic/nosy/prying/dumb or anything! I sometimes have a bad way of presenting myself socially, especially online!)

Also, sorry for typing three paragraphs, all to ask a question about asking a question. I am a cursed long-winded rambler. 😭

. Absolutely! We could always use some fresh faces (im getting tired of looking at trey's ugly avatar all the time) silverbrook you're very welcome! it's definitely hard to know where to start. there's so much information and it becomes really overwhelming when you're new to it all. i'm sure we can give you some tips on what might be easiest to start with and to work from there. and questions, of course, are always appreciated Also, in general to newbies: we have a tradition we started early on called Monthly Movie Mondays (MMM). Basically we choose a film to watch over a rabb.it stream, and discuss any underlying Christian themes (whether intentional or not) we might catch. The next one is Oct 1st. In the past, we've watched: Silence, Grace Unplugged, Christian Mingle (the Movie), Doctor Strange, God's Not Dead, the Prince of Egypt, Risen, and a few other weird ones i'm sure trey made us watch

Can I just say that it like... makes my day when people come to us with questions? I just love talking about my faith and it makes me happy that you guys think we're approachable and all that jazz. Thanks for coming @aromatisse silverbrook. Also, is it wrong that I'm already recording my Christmas covers? Breath of Heaven and Noel. Also, just out of pure curiosity, Saint Ambrosef What's the general consensus amongst Catholics regarding songs written from Mary's point of view/to Mary, a la Breath of Heaven / Mary Did You Know? I can't imagine it'd be much different than Protestant reception?

Not sure if there is much of an opinion, tbh. I've never heard anything overwhelmingly negative or positive about it; part of that might be because they're not played very often in favor of more commercialized songs (Silent Night, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, We Three Kings, Noel, etc). looking over the songs i don't see anything questionable about them. talking about this is giving me a little nudge of Christmas feels, though.

Im catholic and in college. I don't have questions right now but if any come up this would sure be easier than contacting the youth leaders at my church. I used to be super involved at church (classes, mission trip, teaching classes) but am currently too busy to continue that kind of involvement and now just go to mass on Sundays

Hello! c: So I've watched this thread for awhile now and decided to post. I'm a Christian as well, although I'm not really apart of any church (therefore I guess I am "non-denominational", but with a Catholic background), and I like coming here to read prayer requests and also read your discussions, just since a lot of you know each other I felt awkward to pots here I guess heh. I might have a few questions to share later, as I wanted to talk over a few Biblical things I'm struggling to understand fully. Plus I wanted to ask for views on allegorical work! I wanted to write some myself one day, but I know for certain Christians fantasy is on shaky ground depending on the type (even read one article that said "Pilgrim's Progress" was wrong/sinful or suchlike). I mean obviously we are on a young adult book reader's site for people reading about Erin Hunter's talking fantasy cats so some of you probably like fantasy but yeah, wanted general views on it. cx I'll probably elaborate more later, as I don't have much time to write this, need to feed cats right now.

Hi, welcome! I can somewhat understand some Christians' anger toward stories like Harry Potter... but I think it's misguided anger. The Bible clearly forbids Christians to participate in witchcraft or magic, but the witchcraft/magic in Harry Potter is completely fictional. If something in a fantasy children's book tempts one to learn real witchcraft, then... yeah, stay away from it. But for the most part, it's just a make-believe fairytale intended to entertain. There's nothing inherently sinful about reading it. Something like Pilgrim's Progress being slammed, though? That's difficult to believe; then again, I've seen Narnia bashed and C.S. Lewis is one of the most renowned Christian writers in history. I always look to 1 Corinthians 8 to answer questions like this. Some believers in Corinth were conflicted about whether or not it was suitable for Christians to eat meat sacrificed to idols. Paul knew that the idols were imaginary and had no power, and therefore the meat was perfectly okay to eat. However, because some of the Corinthians didn't feel comfortable or didn't understand this, Paul wrote that "For if someone with a weak conscience sees you, with all your knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, won’t that person be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to idols? So this weak brother or sister, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge. When you sin against them in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother or sister to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause them to fall." Likewise, there's nothing inherently wrong with enjoying or writing fantasy stories. It's not real and has no power. However, if it causes believers around you to be uncomfortable or angry, you shouldn't read it or talk about it around them. I have to exercise this a lot at my job (I work in a Christian bookstore, haha).

I've always wanted to learn Spanish- while German's great, it's not useful unless people speak it around you. So many people speak Spanish I feel I could use it more.
What I do like though is how German is giving me a head start on other Germanic languages like Dutch, Swedish, and Norwegian.

I live in a German area. The majority of people here have German heritage and so our school's offered Spanish and German while most in the area around us offer French and Spanish but Spanish is just so much more useful than German

We actually had one girl that moved there from Germany so that was pretty cool. All my friends loved her. I didn't really like her because she was abbot of a jerk towards me but they were my only friends so I was basically forced to eat lunch with her everyday. Middle school was just not a good time
